Work Text:
Ignihyde was never prepared to have people over, let alone the two most feared people on campus. Everyone thought their housewarden was insane for inviting them over. The dorm was in a quiet panic, the groups that would usually be working or gaming out in the common areas retreated into their rooms, those who were making lunch in the kitchens tried to find some solution to finish three minute ramen in one. Sure magic could make it properly or it could somehow burn everything so that was out of the question.
Idia's announcement the day before wasn't really helpful in mentally preparing his fellow dormmates mainly because it was Ortho who told everyone while he denied agreeing to this. It was a twenty minute argument between the brothers before they finally left the room.
Now that it was actually time for the get together Idia couldn't deal with the anticipation of them arriving. The Malleus Draconian and Riddle Rose hearts were coming over to play games, the two people who can make a whole room shut up just by walking in. Idc if 1 of them is my boyfriend if I mess up I could be murdered. Gosh even his internal monologue was starting to make them sound like some Webtoon protags.
"Brother, they are here now. I will go and get some refreshments for everyone." Before he can protest or come up with a fake reason to make them leave the door was opened.
"Thank you for having us Idia." Riddle was the first to greet him.
"Yes, I am grateful for your invitation." The dragon fae said as he entered the the the room, a slight smile on his lips.
"Y-y-yeah I uhhhhh, hope we could, ummmm, have fun." Idia started to pull his hoodie strings up and down nervously.
All three people(beings?) sat down in front of the oldest Shroud's bed in front of a low coffee table. They sat in an awkward silence for a few minutes before Ortho came back with a tray of assorted drinks and snacks.
"Did you guys figure out what to play?" The little Shroud asked.
"N-no. Uhhhhh, what d-d-d do you ummmm, want to uhhh play?"
"Lilia has played these video games before, If my memory serves me right it was called "Miitendo Snap Sports." I also recall you talking about Lario Kart."
"I've heard Cater mention that a few times too."
"If that's the one you wanna play, who am I to deny." Why do they want to play an active game!?
Setting up the room to play took a bit, they had to move the table out of the center of the room, change the HDMI on the TV from the Flame TV Stick to the Snap, then connect an extra pair of Happy-cons so everyone could play.
They booted up the game and designed their characters. After a brief argument on the differences between using a Mii and a Sportsmate, they got to selecting the game.
"Can we play tennis?" Riddle asked.
"I would like to try this bowling game out." Malleus stated.
How the actual fuck should I decide this, the teapot tyrant and the fucking prince of Briar Valley can't pick a game, now I'm the one who has to break the tie(incoherent scream)
Idia's suggestion broke the awkward silence. "We, could uhhhh, flip a coin IG."
"Excellent idea brother, we'll play whichever game wins first then play the other after a round." The robot clapped his hands in excitement.
He immediately went over to his older brother's desk and grabbed a coin, then passed it to Riddle.
"Okay, heads will be tennis and tails will be bowling." The red-head announces as he throws the coin in the air.
It made contact with the carpet with a muffled thump.
"We shall do bowling it seems."
On the selection screen everyone(except Idia and Ortho) play the tutorial, it takes a while since Malleus had to keep looking for which button to press and almost broke the controller after he tried too crush the ever living hell out of it.
Riddle did a bit better since Floyd made him play a few times during Heartslaybyul's game night but he still wasn't that good. Both Shrouds were already experienced so they just watched the other two somehow fail. That doesn't mean they were doing well though, Idia was in mild pain since he was standing up straight for once so the ball wouldn't keep rolling to the gutter. Ortho was a robot so his skills don't count, he's just there for fun.
Now that the match officially began they all stood in a line that was nowhere near far enough away but there wasn't much they could do about that because of the room's size and layout, it didn't matter anyways since bowling didn't require much space.
Once the the match actually started, they simultaneously threw the balls. The youngest Shroud got a strike which was expected but Idia doing the same was pretty surprising. Riddle and Malleus ended up missing a few pins, but it was only the first match so they both hoped they could catch up.
"That is bloody bullshit!!!" Screamed the short red head, his usual light Queendom accent now thick with rage.
"You could still catch up Child of Roses."
"He's behind over 100 points. A comeback can't be made unless the gods bless his poor soul." Mumbled Idia.
If looks could kill the flame-haired third year would have been dismembered on the spot. Meanwhile Malleus hasn't gotten a single pin since the first roll, but unlike the rage filled second year he was seemingly calm, not understanding how moving the controller way off to the side would effect the games ball. The oldest Shroud was internally cringing at what was happening around him.
There were only four rounds left, the red-head was getting way to close to the table. He was trying his hardest to get a strike, his eyes were completely locked on the screen. He moved his right leg up a bit, then unfortunately slammed his left leg into the table.
"Great Seven!!"
In a fit of childish rage Riddle closed the game and looked seconds shy of throwing or breaking something. Idia was thanking the seven it wasn't in the middle of a boss battle, and the red-heads magipen was not near him. Floyd was rubbing off on him or would it have been that weird guy who sneaks onto campus, either way rage quitting and slamming his leg into a table was kinda funny, annoying but lwk hilarious.
"Are you all right Child of Roses?"
"Yes I am fine. Most that will happen would probably be a bruise, nothing that'll be to bad."
"Have any of you played Lario Kart? It would be perfect for all of us, we can sit and play it too." The little robot went over to switch the game cards out, not even giving a chance for anyone to respond.
"I can't say I ever have Little Shroud." Malleus moved his hand towards his face, cupping his chin with his thumb and forefinger; deep in thought.
Riddle didn't answer his face was almost as red as his hair, the embarrassment clearly hasn't subsided. But he sat on the floor in front of the bed. Everyone followed his lead, sitting on either side of him, the only one not on the floor was Ortho who took a spot on the bed. The beginning of the game was quiet almost too quiet, the only sounds were the soundtrack and the slight click of the buttons when an item was used or when someone let go of the accelerator. Until the third match, they've already played two other cups, Riddle won the first and Malleus won the second. Ortho was just watching them play, but Idia was pissed, how the fuck did the fae that breaks his phone on the regular beat me. Rage fueled the shut-in's thoughts, I've been losing all fucking day, these extroverts shouldn't be beating me!!!
Once Lakitu officially started the match the room became tense. Anxiety filled the area, everyone timed their drifts perfectly, threw green shells with perfect accuracy, and attempted to grab the controller from their neighbors hand(the last one was Riddle just being childish). It was only the first round though, slowly they began to stop being as precise, stop trying to take things from the people next to them, which made the CPU's able too take the lead. The gap was getting harder to close since a certain someone went back to grabbing, y did i sit next 2 him? That thought was immediate squashed after hearing the sound of the first round ending.
"I swear to the seven how the fuck did ~■~●●■~" The rest of the red-heads statement became unintelligible because of his accent and the now way to high-pitched tone he was speaking in.
Round two began before anyone could even ask what was said or argue.
"Can you pls stop trying 2 take my controller!"
"Can you stop being in the lead!"
"Fuck you."
"That's my boyfriend's job."

Dead silence followed that statement, Ortho even took Malleus's Happy-Con to pause the game. They were all looking at the Heartslaybyul housewarden. Not because what was said was that insane, it wasn't about what was said at all, it was who said it. Idia could literally not believe that was spoken by the same person who lost their shit over a yo' mama joke. At least that's why the Shrouds were looking at him. Malleus was just confused by it, he was slightly annoyed he didn't get what was happening again but at the same time it seemed like he wasn't the only one. Riddle looked just as confused until a minute or two passed, that's when the situation finally clicked in his head.
Instead of yelling like normal or getting red it seemed like his brain broke, for a few seconds he was completely still. When he finally moved he grabbed the controller from Ortho who was still holding the dragon fae's, un-paused the game, and proceeded to act like nothing happened. It lead to everyone scrambling to actually press the accelerator on the second lap. Since Riddle already had his finger on the button he was able to pull ahead and gain a strong lead; winning the second round.
"OK Rids u gotta stop cheating!"
"Child of Roses may you please cease grabbing of the remote control."
There was no verbal response, the reply was a stuck out tongue and turning back to the screen. The third round started, Idia caught himself tilting the controller on each turn even though motion controls weren't on. Since it was the last round his focus was only on the screen, he didn't see the way his boyfriend's eyes lit up when driving past the Beast Passing trees or the way their angry third wheel death gripped the Happy-Con. Thankfully Ortho was recording the game for "good memories" (aka to send to the froshies for blackmail). Lap one Riddle was in the lead, but quickly lost it because Malleus got a blue shell and Ortho unfortunately taught him how to use items. Lap two Idia took the lead since Riddle broke his Happy-Con and Malleus was slipping on his own banana peels. On the final lap Malleus was in the lead and somehow got blessed by a goddess with the way he was able to aim his green shells correctly. The third round has now ended.
"GG, IG. You guys were actually able to beat me." Shock filled Idia's tone.
"SEVENS DAMNIT!"
"WTF I FORGOT THERE WAS ONE MORE!"
"I thought the next one was the last one."
They all started to talk over each other. Riddle's controller was still broken but he wouldn't accept the loss and decided to attempt a win with it, even though Ortho offered the one he was using earlier. Malleus was staying quiet, just going through the laps trying to not fail the same ways he did earlier. Idia was continuing to argue with Riddle though, not paying full attention to the screen since he already memorized the track. The argument was getting so heated they actually went quiet, both of them were obviously pissed but Malleus started to take the lead and was ignoring the other two's death glares.
On the second lap it seemed they calmed down a little, however the progress was immediately undone by Idia somehow getting a super star while in second place and Riddle was getting only coins and green shells in twelfth. On the final lap there was no hope for the angriest people, they were to far behind to even pray to catch up. Now that the final round was over they went quiet, only one person dared to speak.
"I believe the correct thing to say is GG Bitches."
The room erupted into incoherent rage. Idia debated how dangerous it would be to yell at one of the most powerful mages in the world. Riddle didn't think about it, he literally was yelling at THE Malleus Draconia. That's when Idia broke.
"How in the Tartarus did I lose to someone who plays like a child!! Let alone someone who literally can't use a TV!!"
"Big brother," Ortho tugged on his hoodie, "are you breaking up with him." He stared at his older brother, trying to look as sad and worried as possible.
"No, why the hell would you-" Ortho immediately perked up and cut him off.
"Now that you've stopped arguing, I believe it's time for everyone to head back to their dorms. Sebek mentioned Lilia was going to try coo-" The little shroud couldn't even finish the statement before Malleus teleported out of the room.
"I apologize for my earlier behavior. This has been fun though, if you would like we can do this again sometime, I must be going now." With a wave Riddle left the Shrouds to themselves.
"Ortho set your stats to the highest difficulty."
"Only if you agree to go to bed at eleven."
"I need to avenge myself."
The two brothers proceeded to play most of the night before devolving into an argument over bedtime.
