He was not used to being seen as who he was. The demon, himself with his personality. There was a reason they had named him Baby. He was 'newest' to the group but not newest at being a Demon. That was reserved for dear old Mystery. Who couldn't control barking? He gave the others a bad name but you had to love him. Had a certain dog-like aspect about him you just couldn't help but love.
No, he was enjoying the fame. That wasn't a lie. It was all the things beyond that was irking him. He lived for the attention. For the adoration. What he didn't expect was the sincere feelings he and a certain rapper from another group were developing. Or, at least, that's what he assumed it was. He wasn't used to being interacted with and shown respect. Not just something for the public to enjoy.
The girl with freckles that danced across her skin like the milky-way brought a new reality to his existence he wasn't sure about. She made it tolerable, bearable. Where he could just relax and drop the facade. Both as a human and as a demon. She was aware of his true self and didn't back away. How he had his claws, his markings, his fangs. How he wasn't from this time. None of that bothered her.
If anything, it caused her to be more open with him. Friendly, not judging when he didn't know something. And when asked about his past and he was unable to remember anything, she just shrugged and went on with the conversation. No questions, no judgment. Just... warmth. He was unaccustomed to the warmth. Yet, she gave it freely.
"You ever kiss anyone?" She asked one day as he was playing on his gaming console. He paused and looked at her, eyebrows furrowed.
"What do you mean?" She shrugged, crossing her legs and facing him.
"Like... Lips touching your face, arms, head. Anywhere. Lips." She tilted her head, that innocent look on her face made him narrow his eyes at her.
"I can't remember that aspect of my human life."
"Okay, but what about your demon life?" She asked gently.
"Uh. No." He shook his head, curiosity getting the better of him. "Why?" She shrugged, now avoiding his gaze.
"Just didn't know. Back in my old place, they'd make fun of me cause I've never been kissed." He snorted.
"That's stupid... But also something we have in common." He opened gently. She arched a eyebrow as she finally looked at him again.
"How, you just said you hadn't been kissed?"
"Exactly. There was this whole section of the demon world I had to traverse through." He shivered at some of the memories, a frown on place. "They wanted kisses, touches, other things." He gave her a look and she nodded in understanding. "It's just not me." He shook his head.
"Like you don't wanna be?" Something about how her tone dropped, almost sounding disappointed caused his own heart to drop and pause in his stomach.
"Now do you hate me?" He asked softly.
"Never." She shook her head, extending her hand and he decided to place his clawed hand in hers, not the normal human one. She held his hand gently, almost afraid. Not of him, but of him running. They had ended that conversation after a couple of questions after that.
He had always kept a close eye on her. Always wanting to be near her, even though he didn't want to admit it. There was one day when they were checking on a spot in the honmoon that was concerning. It must've been a trap because as soon as the small group got there, demons attacked. Mira and Mystery went after a group darting away as Baby and Zoey fought another seven. They were winning. Or so he thought.
Suddenly he was being sliced apart from very familiar claws. Demon on demon fights were not pretty. Nor were they painless. White crossed his vision as his side was ripped open, causing him to fall to the ground, grasping his side.
"Oh no you don't." He faintly recognized her talking to the one that attacked him, quickly taking him out of the human world before turning to him. "I'm not going to let you die." She said, her hands tactfully tracing over his wound and grabbing the medical kit.
"I'll come back."
"We don't know that anymore." She whispered and glanced at him. His eyes widened at the fear in her face. "I won't let you die." She said, her voice stern. He just nodded, biting his lip. The feelings he long since tried to ignore bubbled up towards the surface. The way the honmoon light reflected off of her face as the others fought, the girls starting to sing a three part harmony when Rumi poofed into the fight. He wasn't sure how long she was there, patching him up, but she stayed by his side. Even when they returned to the girls penthouse and he was laying on the couch, watching her.
"Hey." He said softly, her gaze snapping to his instantly as he reached out, his hand clearly human. She took his hand just as it was before. Except he pulled her towards him, she balancing on her arms and legs as to not crush him. "I wanna try something." His voice soft, warm, velvet. She just nodded and he tilted forward best he could without opening the stitches. Thankfully she met him half way and their lips gently placed together but their noses bumped in a awkward way. A laugh escaped them for a moment, backing away. "Nobody ever taught you how to kiss?"
"I told you, I've never been kissed." She said softly, tilting down to peck his lips once more. "I'm glad you're my first."
