Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

The blip was all it took for Peter Parker to find himself in this hellscape of a city called Gotham.

At first he assumed it was some complex dream, the last thing he remembered was watching his hand disintegrate and disappear until suddenly there was nothing. *He* was nothing.

While that was a common thought in his mind, nothing was terrifying. He had no memories of it, no clue what happened that caused him to wake up on some random rooftop here.

His body felt new. It was weird. Weirder than when he first got bit.

After taking what felt like forever to remind himself how to properly function and making sure he was all in one piece with nothing missing, he started to wander.

Gotham was shittier than New York, if it was even possible. The streets were somehow as dark as the alleyways and muggers didn’t even lurk in the shadows. They were out on the streets, shifty and more paranoid than they should’ve been.

Peter was sticking to the rooftops, unsure about how the public would respond to seeing a guy walking the streets in a red and blue spider costume.

The only thing that made this city worse was the way his spidey senses were tingling nonstop, there were problems everywhere.

What really caught his eye was a man perched on an adjacent roof. Wearing a black suit with some sort of blue bird or something on it. They both paused when they made eye contact and the spidey sense only seemed to tell him to be cautious. It seemed the guy wasn’t an immediate threat, but definitely not someone to mess with.

What did have his spidey senses screaming though was the sudden appearance of a guy dressed like some sort of demon…though the crest on his chest said something more bat like.

Peter turned his ass right around to face him, barely getting to take in whether this was a good guy or a bad one before another one appeared.

This time it was a kid, dressed in green and red with a black and yellow cape.

Wait- a kid!?

I mean sure Peter had no room to talk considering he donned his own mask at 14 but this place was more of a cesspool for danger than queens was; judging by all the sirens and the way his spidey senses weren’t letting him get a moment of peace.

The bat looking man was poised to strike, not about to, but ready if Peter moved too quickly.

“Who are you?”

“Your friendly neighborhood spider-man?”

The man was not amused, and the kid seemed to just give him a look that asked if Peter was missing brain cells.

“‘Friendly’ is not one of the adjectives that anyone in Gotham would use” the kid spoke up with a sense of an entitled scoff as if calling Peter out on his bullshit.

Which he was.

“Right…as much I’ve loved this little back and forth here. I should probably skedaddle before your little monstrosity there bites my ankles” Spider-man said with a small smile behind his mask, clearly sensing the sheer *don’t talk to me* aura radiating off the Bat guy.

Just as he was about to *thwip* off he saw the Bat man move, reaching for something.

Spider-man didn’t even give him a chance, throwing the man off when a web stuck his hand to where it was on his side.

The kid didn’t get much further, his foot being stuck where it was by the same sticky web. Before he had a chance to grab for anything Spider-man was gone, jumped right off the roof.

The man in the black suit with the blue crest had seen it all from across the building. Eyes wide as he watched Spider-man swing off in the other direction.

He probably should have went after him…but it was Gotham, how far could a new guy get?

— * —
Spider-man got pretty far. At least far enough to snag some civie clothes and change out of his suit. Every so often he’d catch a glimpse in the shadows or get the feeling someone was watching him. And he could tell they were keeping an eye out for spider-man.

The main question now was how many were there?

Cause judging by his spidey sense there wasn’t just the three of them, it was a lot of different people.

The one that really caught his attention was the guy with the red helmet. Particularly due to the fact he seemed to be the only one carrying a gun.

He had to second guess if the man was also working with the others but ultimately the symbol on his chest meant Peter could safely assume he was one of them.

He set Peter more on edge than the others.

But they wouldn’t find him like this, so he ignored them, didn’t draw attention, and checked in to the nearest motel, making sure to thoroughly look around to ensure his safety.

Once it was all clear he crashed on the bed, rubbing his eyes as he still adjusted to having been rebuilt from the anatomical level.

He was at least alive, that had to count. Now he just needed to figure out where *here* was exactly before he figured out what his next move was.

His phone was a no go, all cracked and service all jacked up. It was a miracle he even had it with him (something that probably shouldn’t have happened all things considered). The best bet would be finding a computer he could use.

But he hadn’t moved from the bed yet, placing his hands on his face, pressing the heels of his palms against his eyes as he tried to focus, tried to calm down. But this whole experience was overwhelming.

He was supposed to be dead. Should be dead. But he isn’t. Now he’s stuck in some city with no one familiar around, his spidey-senses are completely overwhelmed, ears ringing, body still screaming, every step sent him into fight or flight.

He’s also lost everyone.

Which isn’t saying much but still…he had a life at least.

With a sigh Peter sat up on the edge of the bed and moved to leave. He shouldn’t have wasted the money on the room knowing he needed answers first.

He just wandered, careful of his surroundings until he stumbled upon a public library. Judging by the lack of lights it wasn’t open. But the window was unlocked so that was good enough.

After navigating to the computers and managing to turn it on, Peter began his research.
