I Don’t Think We Can Ever Go Back (To What We Were Before)

Summary:

Kylie and Malia can never be the same. Not after what Malia did.

Work Text:

Kylie still feels the ache of the betrayal as she sits across from Malia even months later.

Soon her songs will be released, and all her raw feelings will be heard be everyone. She wanted Malia to hear them. To hurt like she’s been hurting.

Because to her, it doesn’t even seem like the other girl cares.

Kylie and Malachi had broken up 3 days ago. He had said her and Malia were too close, almost like lovers more than friends.

She had called him dramatic, but he was right. So he broke up her. She was a bit heartbroken, but felt better with Malia holding her.

She hadn’t confessed her feelings, there wasn’t a right time.

“I should get back to my hotel room,” Malia said, pulling away from Kylie. The dark haired girl whined, but gave her a small smile when Malia kissed her cheek.

“I’ll see you in the morning.” Malia said, getting out of the bed.

“Goodnight giggles,” Kylie said, a soft smile on her face.

“Goodnight baddie Cantrall,” Malia responded, giggling.

She left the room with a huge smile on her face, but it dropped when she thought about how Kylie would never like her back. Malia walked down the hallway in silence, wanting to just get to her room.

Malachi opens his door as she’s on her way to her dorm. He’s flossing his teeth, only wearing a towel wrapped around his waist.

Malia swallows, trying to keep her eyes on his face only. “Malachi. What do you want?”

He laughs, “So what you hate me now? Listen Kylie is obviously in love with you. Not to say you’re in love with her, but I don’t want that when she’s all over you.”

Malia scowled at him, crossing her arms. “And what do you know about Kylie’s feelings? You broke her heart.”

Malachi rolled his eyes, “Whatever I wanted you more anyway.” He said, pinning her against the wall.

Malia looked into his eyes, “So what? You want me now?”

Malachi looked her up and down, “I mean yeah. Plus look at me. Don’t you want this?”

Malia looked around before biting her lip. “This is a one time thing.”

Malachi smirked, “Sure it is.”

Kylie was heartbroken. A few days before, Sharlize had shown her a picture of Malachi and Malia kiss. It was from months ago, only 3 days after they’d broken up.

She felt so betrayed.

After hours of crying she decided she was going to FaceTime Malia and try and get the truth from her. Once she looked like she hadn’t cried for hours, she FaceTimed Malia.

The girl answered with her usual bright smile, pretending like every thing is fine. Pretending like she hadn’t been betraying Kylie for months.

They chatted normally for 2 hours. Malia dodged every chance Kylie gave her to admit it. She basically looked straight into her eyes and lied to her.

Kylie couldn’t take it anymore. “Malia I fucking know so stop lying. I know you’ve been fucking Malachi for months.”

Malia went silent, suddenly not so talkative. “Kylie… listen I just… I’m sorry.”

Kylie scoffed, “3 fucking days after we broke up? Your half ass sorry isn’t going to cut it, Malia.”

She hung up the phone, too tired to talk to her any longer. Malia was typing for a while after that but never sent a message.

Kylie blocks her number and unfollows her on instagram. She also unfollows Malachi because might as well kill two birds with one stone.

She doesn’t unfollow her on TikTok though, because as much as she wants to be petty, she doesn’t want the fans to notice too quickly.

Kylie cries herself to sleep that night, feeling the betrayal sting in her heart.

— — — December 2025

Kylie starts writing songs about the betrayal, trying to get all her emotions out into the music.

The edits on TikTok hurt and everyone is begging for Kylia to come back. As much as Kylie loved Malia, she doesn’t think they could ever go back to how they were.

Not after what she did. Not after how she betrayed Kylie and didn’t even care.

Malia felt so horrible for what she did. She broke up with Malachi, unable to eat anything without getting sick to her stomach while with him.

Her anxiety was off the charts all the time, causing her appetite to practically disappear. She had to force herself to eat and the days she saw Kylie again, she couldn’t eat for days.

Kylie was a bit better now it seemed. In fact she looked better without Malia. It hurt but it was true. She was better off without someone like Malia.

After one of the interviews, Malia tried to talk to Kylie but she just brushed right past her. She just wanted closure, to talk to her again since Kylie had reblocked her.

But it was expected and deserved. Even if they were acting a bit better in interviews, Kylie was still too hurt.

And Malia wasn’t sure she’d ever recover.
