Work Text:
Uzi sat in a chair, fiddling with a battery in her hand. She was working on fixing a portable projector that she had found while scavenging.
Humans really left some useful stuff here. I could watch anime with this...she thought, smirking slightly and picking up the projector.
The landing pod was empty and quiet. She came here often when the bunker got too loud or when she wanted to be alone.
Sure, she could just stay in her room, but this felt perfect. No noises, no one here...
"Uz?"
...Except N.
Uzi turned her head slightly. She didn't mind him being here. Actually, she was the one who asked him to come with her since she enjoyed his company—not that she would admit that.
"Hm?" she hummed.
N sat on the chair beside her. "You've been glaring at that battery for five minutes... Everything okay?"
She groaned. "Not really. This stupid battery is not working with the projector, and I've tried so many, but I can't find the right one."
"Oh! I think J had some batteries in her corner office. Maybe one of them will work?" N suggested, smiling as his tail swished behind him.
"Can you get some for me?" Uzi asked.
He stood up from his chair. "Can do!"
She mumbled a 'thanks' and went back to the projector as he went to the back of the pod to search J's small office.
He checked the desk. Then, he went around it to check in some of the drawers, finding some papers and a JCJenson stress ball on the ground, but no batteries.
As he was about call Uzi, a quiet skittering noise came from behind him.
He turned quickly, startled, his back hitting the wall as a red-eyed robo-roach jumped on the desk.
"You scared me..." N muttered.
He pushed himself off the wall, about to head back when he heard a quiet swish of a door opening behind him.
He turned back. His optics hollowed out when he saw a hidden doorway had opened in the wall.
Curious, N stepped inside.
The room was pretty spacious with papers scattered everywhere on the ground, a whiteboard in the back and a couch in the middle.
What...was this here before? N thought.
He walked to the whiteboard, it had some doodles on it which suspiciously looked like J.
Was this J's room...?
N was going to go get Uzi before he noticed a yellow-ish glow from a desk.
He stepped closer to it. It looked like a battery with glowing acid in it.
N picked it up and stared at it for a minute, before he thought of something.
He swapped his hand for a claw, slicing the top of the battery and bringing it closer to his face before he stopped.
Maybe I shouldn't...
However, curiosity got the better of him as he sighed.
Eh, it's just a little sip!
He drank it and froze.
Oh...
<~>
Uzi tapped her foot, getting impatient as she kept waiting for N.
What's taking him so long?
She placed the projector down, got up and went to the back of the pod.
When she stepped inside J's corner office, it was empty.
"N? Where are you—" she went quiet when she saw a doorway leading into a dim room.
She raised a brow and went into it. Her optics immediately went to the side of the room where she heard a thump.
There, standing completely still, holding a battery in his hand with only a few drops of acid left inside, was N.
She walked to him quickly. "N??"
N jumped slightly and turned to her. Now that she was closer, she noticed him swaying a little...
"Oh—Uzi! Hi!" He waved at her. She saw that his visor was also slightly flushed.
"Why are you—never mind. What was taking you so long? Did you find a battery? "
N tilted his head in confusion. "Uh, the what...?"
"N, are you joking right now..." She trailed off when she watched him for a moment.
He just stared at her and smiled, brighter than usual, while his tail swished wildly behind him. The flush on his visor was still there...
She gasped silently as realization struck her.
"Did you...did you drink that battery acid?!"
Uzi had heard that battery acid was apparently intoxicating for disassembly drones, and N had just drunk it.
He lowered the battery in his hand and chuckled under his breath.
"Um...no?"
Uzi sighed. "N, why would you—" She stopped when N dropped the battery and leaned straight into her.
"What—"
He wrapped his arms around her lightly. "Uzzz... 'm a little dizzy..."
She stumbled slightly under his weight, "I wonder why, you idiot."
"Uz?"
"What now."
N pulled back from her slightly, pointing to another battery lying on the desk. "...Can I have some more of that?"
"No, absolutely not."
He stared at her, mustering his best puppy eyes. "Pleaseeee?"
Dang it, why does he look even more cute when drunk.
Unfortunately for him, she denied again, "N, no."
N's smile dropped as he slumped against her again, his face buried in her shoulder.
"I need to go work, you can't trap me here all day. Just go sleep, you'll get better," she suggested.
He looked up at her, the flush on his visor had somehow gotten brighter. "Don' go...you're warm."
Uzi almost laughed at how ridiculous he looked, and also extremely irresistable. How could she say no when her boyfriend was sounding like this?
She exhaled and walked to the couch with a clingy murder drone following behind her.
"Fine. C'mere," she said as she sat down.
Instantly, N lit up and practically glued himself to her side. His tail thumped rapidly on the cushions.
Uzi adjusted herself, wrapping one arm around him. Her other hand rested on the back of his head for a moment before she ran her fingers through his hair, knowing he loved it.
He sighed blissfully, and pressed closer...before his head slid down and landed in her lap with a small thump.
She froze. "...N?"
No response. His arms wrapped around her waist like he did this every day.
"N, get up from there," she said, a little flustered.
He looked at her, and her heart nearly broke at the sight of him. He looked like he was about to cry if she told him to get up again.
"Okay, okay, fine! You can stay," she told him as she put her hand back on his head again.
He smiled and nuzzled into her hand, silently begging for more head pats—which she complied with.
"Clingy idiot," Uzi muttered.
She heard him mumbling something, but she couldn't quite make out the words.
"What?"
N lifted his face slightly from her lap. "I 'jus wanted't cuddle my girlf...iend..."
She couldn't help it and giggled quietly as his words slurred heavily together.
"Just go to sleep."
"Mm'kay..."
A few minutes passed while she played with his hair, listening to him occasionally mumble things she couldn't even understand.
When she looked down, [SLEEP MODE] was displayed across his visor. The bright flush on his visor had finally dimmed.
Her legs felt like they were gonna snap in half under his weight, but she didn't care.
She gently brushed some strands of silver hair away from his visor.
Idiot...he is so gonna regret this when he wakes up.
<~>
N awoke slowly, stretching a little. His head hurt a bit, but right now, he noticed that he was extremely comfortable and warm. He nuzzled closer to the source of the heat...
He was about to go back to sleep when he realized that his head was resting on something—or someone—very familiar.
He opened his optics immediately and looked up, only to find his girlfriend looking down at him amusedly, her visor slightly flustered.
"Good morning," Uzi said flatly.
N stared for a heartbeat, his visor blushing a bit. "What happened? Was I—?"
"Woah, calm down. You don't remember anything?"
He shook his head nervously.
Uzi sighed, a smirk hinting at the corner of her mouth. "Well, you went to find a battery for the projector that I found and ended up discovering this secret room—probably J's, which I have a lot of questions about. Then, you found some battery acid, drank it, and got high." He made a small noise at that, but she ignored him and continued. "I found you here, and you wouldn't let me go. Since I couldn't resist your cuteness—don't read into that—I decided to stay, and you just claimed me as your pillow."
N was silent for a minute before Uzi asked, "You really don't remember any of that?"
"I—maybe? I mean, I remember some things, but not clearly..."
She scoffed. "Of course you don't, you doofus. You were drunk."
"...On battery acid?"
"Yep. I'm never letting you near that stuff again."
"Biscuits..." N sighed. "Hey, Uz?"
"Hm?"
"...Thanks for letting me stay."
"Bite me."
The two sat in silence for a moment before Uzi spoke up.
"You're still on me, by the way."
N stilled. At first, he looked like he was about to scramble up, but then he hesitated. "...Five more minutes?" he asked shyly.
"...Fine. I forgot you were always clingy anyway," she teased, running her fingers through his hair again.
"Hey..." His mild protest died at her touch as he settled back down with his head securely in her lap, smiling softly.
