Work Text:
Sans was an interesting man.
To you, he was quite lovely. You loved cuddling with him. He was big enough to engulf you in his large, strong arms and carry you around his house while you squirmed around and laughed playfully. He treated you out to the finest restaurants in town almost every night, showering you with attention as if you were his most prized possession.
And that was the problem, he treated you like a prized possession.
Just like the pet names he called you, you felt like a doll he constantly kept on a leash kept close to his side and could be carried around wherever he wanted. He wanted and had total control over your life. He steered away your family and completely isolated you from making contact with them, your friends or to anyone else in the streets as well.
You had believed him at first when it said it was for your own good, that your loved ones were just manipulating you and trying to keep you away from growing closer to him.
‘Has that man ever even told you what he does for a living?! He looks like a criminal!’
‘Please.. You need to listen to me.. You need to get away from him.. I don’t want to see you get hurt.’
‘That monster is clearly lying straight to your face!’
‘Who knows what he’s capable of doing to you?’
That’s what they told you.
You had a feeling that you should have listened to them, now look where that had gotten you.
The two of you sat together on the luxurious living room couch. His heavy arm was draped over you while he talked your ear off about some guy he’d run into at a bar and nearly gotten into a fight with.
That was another thing about Sans, he was a terrifying man.
He was deeply violent, constantly ranting about people who had angered him and threatening to crush their heads into the pavement or even blow their brains out with a gun. It sent a cold shiver down your spine and a bead of sweat down your temple, yet you always kept a polite smile plastered on your ways.
You were too afraid to show your fear.
Isn’t it ironic? The same man who used to bring you fresh flowers every single morning before he officially confessed his love to you was casually describing smearing someone’s blood across a wall.
He had never actually told you what his job was, had he? All he ever said was that it was a simple family business. Yet the gifts he bought you cost far more than any simple business could ever bring in. You had your suspicions. Your skeleton lover (soon to be ex lover, hopefully) was part of some mafia. That realization made you want to crawl out of this living hell. You had truly loved and enjoyed his affection at first but this was far too much. You.. just wanted it to end.
You cursed yourself internally, how the hell have you not seen the obvious signs?!
He once had cornered a man who was simply being polite after you asked for directions to the restroom. He even had once threatened a poor woman who complimented your outfit and took her compliment as flirting and scaring the living daylights out of her to run away from you.
After encounters like those, he would lock you up in the house more while showering you with praises and kisses. He made promises of taking you out on a real date next week but as he made those promises even more, you knew they were nothing but lies.
Your thoughts were cut off by the sensation of Sans’ thumb rubbing lovingly against your hip with his arm still locked tightly around you.
Right, you were still here with him.
You smiled, though it didn’t reach your eyes. You had long stopped trying to engage in this conversation and decided to settle on nodding along to whatever kind of.. Gruesome details he was rambling about.
He caught on quickly. Sans reached over to tilt your chin up with a finger to force you to look at him.
God, you looked like a complete airhead. Of course he noticed.
“What’s the matter, doll? You alright? Ya zoned out on me for a second there.” He observed.
You stared at him for a moment before letting out a quiet sigh and pushing yourself away. Stumbling back awkwardly and wrapped your arms tightly over your chest. He stared at you with confusion crossing his face as he watched you pull away.
You never pulled away from him.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart? Why’re you backin’ away from me?” He asked before pushing himself up off the couch without breaking his eye contact on you.
You swore you could feel his gaze piercing through your soul.
“Sans.. I-i really need to talk to you about something.” You stammered, desperately trying to keep a polite smile on your face so you wouldn’t accidentally set him off. Though you knew that he could tell you were hesitant, and a bit scared.
“You can tell me anythin’, sweetcheeks.” He murmured softly, stepping closer to cup your cheek. His thumb gently brushed over your skin and he shivered a little by how soft it was. “What is it? Ya want to go out today? We can go to that little cafe down the block, get you that coffee you’re always orderin’.. Buy you a nice pastry, too? Anything you want.”
A pained smile was now on your face. Fuck, please just speak up. You kept telling yourself.
You reached up to take his wrist and set his hand down gently away from your face before taking a deep breath as you tried to push your anxiety aside.
“Look.. I’m really grateful for everything you’ve done for me, Sans. Truly. You’ve given me.. Well, everything really.” You gestured to the living room around you.
You paused for a second and cleared your throat to push away the tremor in your voice.
Here goes nothing. You had rehearsed this exact speech in front of the mirror yesterday all day while he was out on some.. Business. Surely it would go smoothly, right?
Right?
“But if I have to be honest.. I feel completely suffocated in this relationship. I feel like you don’t treat me like an actual partner.. But more like a prize or a toy..” You blurted out.
You began fiddling with your fingers while looking anywhere in the room except at his face.
“I appreciate everything you gave to me. I appreciate the gifts and all the times you made me laugh. But I don't think I can really handle this anymore, Sans..”
Do it.
DO IT, NOW.
“I think it’s for the best that we.. that we break up.”
He didn’t say anything, and your heart was hammering like crazy in your chest.
“I.. I hope you understand that. You’re a great guy, really. I think.. Maybe you can find somebody el-”
“Are ya fuckin’ kiddin’ me?” Sans barked as he stared at you in absolute disbelief. You swore the corner of his eye socket twitched in irritation. “After everything we’ve been through, you’re just gonna leave?! Just like that?”
You flinched at his sudden outburst but you forced yourself to straighten your posture, glaring back with as much firmness as you could muster out. You didn’t want him to treat you like this.
“Sans, I feel like I'm constantly trapped in a cage in this relationship! You pushed my family and friends away, i know you lied and manipulated me into staying with you-”
He cut you off with a loud chuckle, running a hand over his skull as he shook his head in denial. His red eyelight looked like they were glowing more brighter than before.
“No no.. no. You’re just overreactin’, sweetcheeks. This ain't right.” He rasped, stepping closer to you. “You’re confused, that’s all. Why don’t ya just sit back down next to me so we can talk this out properly?”
Sans’ grin widened, his golden tooth gleamed from the light of the chandelier above. He took another step towards you but you instinctively stumbled backwards.
This was exactly what you were afraid of, and you needed to get out of this house NOW.
“I’m.. I’m sorry, Sans. I’m sorry you spent so much money on me but it’s for the best that we just split up.” You pleaded frantically, hoping it would go through his hard skull. “Maybe i’m just not the right person for you, you know? So please.. Just forget about me.”
Silence fell over the room.
“I.. i have to go.” You whispered, quickly turning on your heel. You didn’t want to stay here and continue to have a chat with him any longer. You just wanted to get away from this house, and most importantly, away from him.
Before you could reach the front door, a large hand caught your wrist.
“No, you aren’t.” He snarled.
You whipped around and glared at him. “Sans, please let go! Please don’t make things difficu-”
“No no.. You’re the one makin’ things difficult around here, doll.” He scoffed in pure bitterness. “I gave you all the love ya could ever ask for! I bought ya whatever you wanted! Your closet is filled with the finest clothes. I take you to the most expensive places around town- i fuckin’ gave you everything.” A low growl escaped from him.
“Nobody else out there gives a flyin’ damn about ya. They’re all just tryin’ to tear us apart. But you know who actually cares about ya?”
He yanked you forward harshly, keeping you close against his chest as he kept you pinned in place. His mouth hovered near your ear.
“Your lil’ ol’ sansy here cares about you more than anyone else in this fuckin’ world.” He growled and you felt his hot breath brushing against your skin. “So don’t you ever dare take a step out of that door.”
You stood there frozen like a statue.
“Besides, where are ya gonna go anyways?” He chuckled, his free hand rubbing your back as if attempting to soothe you. But there was nothing smoothing about Sans when he’s this way.
“There’s nobody out there for ya, you’re just gonna end up on the streets and every scumbag out there is gonna take advantage of ya. But with me? You got everything in the entire world.”
“Then why won’t you just give me my fucking freedom?!” You hissed out.
You slammed both hands against his chest and shoved him with every ounce of strength you had left. Sans stumbled back as his grip slipped from your wrist, completely caught off guard with your action.
You scrambled backwards until your back hit the front door, your hand widely reaching behind you until it found the doorknob and gripped it like your life depended on it.
“Fuck no! You don’t need it!” Sans yelled. He looked like he was ready to pounce on you any second.
“This is exactly what I was talking about, Sans!” You shouted as tears started to come out in the corner of your eyes. “You never let me make my own choices! You’re too- YOU’RE TOO FUCKING CONTROLLING! And you’ll do whatever twisted shit it takes just for things to go YOUR WAY!”
Sans went dead silent.
Because of that, a cold sweat broke down your forehead and your hands started to feel clammy.
JUST GO! Open the fucking door and RUN BEFORE HE DOES SOMETHING! Your mind screamed at you in desperation.
WHAT ARE YOU STANDING THERE FOR?!
You turned the doorknob, and before you could slam the door open, you felt a harsh tug on your chest. A red glow engulfed your entire body and yanked you off your feet. Before you could even scream, you were flung across the room and crashed hard into the couch.
Before you could sit up, a large hand slammed down over your throat and pinned you flat against the cushions. Sans’ hulking figure loomed over you and covered the chandelier light.
He was finally showing you how much of a terrifying man he was.
“I said…” He growled, leaning down until his face was inches from yours. “You ain’t goin’ nowhere.”
You stared up at him with wide eyes as tears finally spilled over your cheeks. Sans then chuckled softly at the sight before reaching down with his free thumb to gently wipe a tear away.
“Aw.. What’re ya cryin’ for, doll? Did i scare ya?”
When you tried to squirm out from under him, his grip on your neck tightened. It wasn’t enough to cut off your air but it was enough to make you sit still.
He cackled. “You made me do this. If you didn’t go and overreact, actin’ all confused and trying to leave, your ol’ sansy wouldn’t be like this.. So.. Why don’t we just go back to cuddlin’ on the couch like we were earlier, huh?”
“I... o-okay.. fine..” You choked out quietly.
Sans smiled, the golden fang glinting once more. “There’s my lovin’ sweetheart.” He purred.
He shifted his weight, hauling your limp body effortlessly up onto his lap as he sat down on the couch. He wrapped his thick arms securely around your waist, pulling you flush against him while planting kisses along the back of your neck.
“See? You were just confused..” He hummed softly while nuzzling his face into your nape. “You were just overreactin’.. Sayin’ random things.. You didn’t mean any of that, did ya?”
He tightened his arms more, you felt like a doll in a cage.
“Cause if you ever pull some shit like this again.. I’m gonna have to put a leash on ya.”
Sans was a terrifying man.
