One day, whilst everyone was either drifting off during the meeting or busy keeping small talk with one another, Hal decided to perk up, asking Moon Knight.
“So, Moon knight, what’s your thing with the moon?” Moon knight turned his face, which was previously gazing at the moon, towards Hal. His head tilted slightly to the right as the room silenced, anticipating his answer. However, the could have never predicted the answer he gave.
“I serve the god Khonshu.” He said as if it were the most obvious explanation. Of course, it was to him, as he could see the god’s ever looming presence everywhere, all the time. Any leaguer who wasn’t tuned in to the conversation now were, some mouths gaping and others laughing uncertainly, as if they hoped he were joking. Other than Batman, who remained seated, still typing away at the monitor. Oliver shifted, lifting himself off the wall opposite Dinah, still staring at Moon Knight with the look of a nonbeliever.
“Your joking right? You have to be joking.” Oliver huffed as he said, unable to believe in such things as gods, even though he stood in the same room as Superman and more importantly Wonder Woman, given that her history was literally intertwined with Ancient Greek gods. Moon Knight replied, his tone ever steady, however when Oliver looked over him, he found that his suit had morphed into an all white formal suit, as if he were about to attend a gala held by Bruce Wayne.
“No, Oliver, w- I am not joking.” Moon knight said, though his accent had shifted. It was still defiantly American, however a tone of formal authority lingered on the edges. Thankfully, most of the league had neglected to focus on his altercation from ‘we’ to ‘I’. He, Marc and Jake often forgot how others didn’t know about their… disorder, though they didn’t forget the consequences if people knew. The white walls would come back, their arms would be locked together once again, the screams coming from their own mouth and muffled cries from fellow inmates would hold themselves in the air, reminding them of their now forsaken life. Just as he was about the turn towards the zeta tubes, finding his was back to the manor, Barry practically shouted.
“What do you mean! How can you ‘serve’ a god?!”
Barry sounded exasperated, honestly annoyed and confused at Moon Knights antics. He knew, of course, that gods were real. However, he only knew a demigod, and as she described it the gods were beings present in a human body, not ordering one around. Moon knight sighed, turned towards the moon once again as if it would pull him out of this hell of a situation, before slightly turning towards the group and saying.
“Imagine the Christian God and Jesus, except much worse and the god lives in your head.” The knight’s head turned fully now, seemingly glaring at an empty corner of the watchtower walls. However, what they didn’t know was the Ancient Egyptian god of the Moon was standing there, glaring right back at Steven through his black eye sockets. Diana, looked at Moon Knight, surveying him before speaking up.
“Χεσπισίχις, the God of the Moon, correct?” Diana questioned, even though she knew she was correct. As she said this, the league turned their attention to her, given the name she used and her knowledge of said god. Maybe it was a given, however Hal assumed that this god wasn’t Greek, shown by how she had still questioned Moon Knight on the purpose of this god. Moon knight turned to Diana, his masked face almost looking relieved.
“{Finally someone here who isn’t a moron.}” He muttered in Arabic (he wasn’t surprised to hear Batman scoff as he said this) before continuing louder in English,“yes, Khonshu is the God of the moon, and he has chosen me to be his avatar and protect those of the night.” Diana looked satisfied, Hal looked bewildered, Barry just stood as still as he could - which meant he was still moving somehow - and Oliver looked like he could down a few beers in one sitting. Surprisingly, Clark was the next one to ask a few questions, having not spoken through this entire exchange.
“So, how does that work? And why do you speak Arabic?” Moon knight sighed once again before his suit changed again, prompting Hal to speak up once more, “and why does your suit do that?!”
“To answer your questions.” the man paused, as the confused looks passed around due to his accent change were quite amusing, “One, the God saved u- me from -almost- dying one day, stuck around and fucked around I guess,” he paused once again, changing his tone to a sarcastic demeanour, shifting his posture towards the seemingly empty corner once again,“and the bird ever so politely asks us to do mierda [shit] for him. Second, Ma-,” he cut himself off once again, given that he didn’t really care who knew about their disorder, however he acknowledged the fact that Marc and Steven cared so he kept their dirty little secret. “-I decided to serve an Egyptian god meaning I travel to Egypt frequently, of course I leant their primary language. I also know hieroglyphics thanks to… anyway.” He cleared his throat and visibly stiffed before continuing, “why do you care about my suit, gilipollas?” [dumbass?]
This information only left the Justice League even more confused and concerned, given that he just admitted to almost dying and had messed up what he was saying on multiple occasions. Also why was he switching into Spanish?
Moon Knight continued, directed to Superman,
“{you know Arabic?}” They thought that he might given he could recognise the language, but it was a long shot. Almost to his surprise, as he knew his husband spoke Arabic, but much to the league’s surprise, Batman answered for him in Superman’s absence.
“{no, the Boy Scout doesn’t know Arabic.}” This reply earned even more confused faces directed to him and Batman and a scoff from Jake as he continued in Arabic,
“{Huh,that's disappointing}” He effortlessly switched to Spanish, continuing to talk to his husband around the people who had neglected to learn any other language bar from their native language. Other than Wonder Woman, who knew both Arabic and Spanish, and also happened to know of their marriage. “This conversation is so boring and the rest of the idiots want bat company, can we go?” Jake neglected to mention how he craved the company of his and Bruce’s kids. The company of the Boy wonder, zombie robin, coffee addict, purple maniac, scary black bat, demon spawn, beam of light and the little moon. Bruce replied with a grunt, before Hal piped up.
“Wait what do you mean ‘the rest of the idiots’? And why would you want bat-company?”Coño. They forgot Hal knew Spanish from his years in the air force. This led Oliver to put his thoughts in.
“Yeah you keep trying to say things like ‘us’ and ‘we’ and what is your guys’s relationship anyway?” Bruce sighed, looking up at his Husbands once more. They decided to switch into a language few would know as Jake signed,
“Should we let them know?” To which Bruce signed back, “If you want to, yes.” Jake signed one more question before sitting beside Bruce on the desk. “Do you want me or one of the others?” Jake signed, Bruce spoke now, replying, “Marc would be ideal, but it’s fine either way.” The sudden speaking caught everyone off guard as they were trying to interpret their hands.
Jake shifted once more, his suit looking near the same, though all the black patches that once were no more. Marc now sat on the desk, his body facing the Justice League whilst his attention was fully on Bruce.
“You can tell them, I know it’s like your team and all.” Bruce nodded to Marc, turning away from his husband’s face, towards the league now.
“Wait you can’t be-“ Oliver started, being cut off by Batman.
“Me and Moon knight are married.” He stated simply, his fingers being intertwine with Marc’s behind his back. As much as Marc, Jake and Bruce ignored it, they were all touch-starved individuals who craved contact, especially in stressful moments. Though Steven wasn’t, he avoided touch almost as much as he avoided a non-ironed suit. He did often comfort Bruce, accepted his embraces and held him when he had nightmares. However, he never craved these touches, he only accepted them and used them to comfort his obviously struggling partner.
The room fell silent, some being able to see Marc and Bruce’s hands interlock and they softened at the sight, others just staring straight on at them and looking shocked and for some reason personally offended. Diana, who knew about the marriage, but still wanted answers to Oliver first questions, spoke up first.
“Whilst I am forever happy for you two, that still doesn’t explain the mistakes in your wording. Are you working with a benefactor unknown to the league?”
Marc stiffened as he heard Jake laughing in his ear, saying “you could say that”. Marc was very glad he wasn’t fronting at this exact moment, though only if it could have been Steven. Bruce began to open his mouth before Marc beckoned to stop, revealing their hands, before answering her questions.
“No, we aren’t.” He let the silence fill the air for a few seconds before he spoke again, “We have Dissociative Identity Disorder, DID for short. It means we have multiple people in this alter, or body.” Some shocked faces stayed, others turned to pity, some turned to confusion. Marc continued, explaining as much as he can without having to let Jake front. “When I was young-“ his breath hitched slightly, before continuing, “-something… happened to me. And in response I created one personality. Then another thing happened later in life…. Then I created another. We might have a couple more, but they don’t front often.” He paused , watching faces of confusion and pity fill the room, before continuing once again. “Right, so basically imagine you put three -or more- people in one head. Essentially that’s what it.. is.” Marc died down at the end, his head involuntarily choosing to land on Bruce’s shoulder, though he didn’t mind.
“So Batman is dati- no married… to the brooding, moon serving vigilante. And said moon serving vigilante has multiple people living inside his body?” Hal asked, “how does that work?”
Marc muttered into his husbands armoured shoulder in Arabic, “{why did you let me join this team again?} before quickly switching into Spanish once again “corazón.” [sweetheart]
Bruce replied to him in Japanese, as that is the language of the country they first met. “Because, baby, your god told you so and probably would have threatened me if not.” Marc knew he was right, his god was kind some days, watching over them, making sure they were okay. And other days his focus was purely on his mission for the travellers of the night. These moods being particularly strong when Batman was off world, unable to assist, or if Marc had denied the bird god something or the death of someone. Marc replied, still in Japanese as no one in the room -to his knowledge- knew the dialect. “Yes, you’re right. Jake was also right, we are tired.” Bruce sighed, before walking towards the zetas tubes, Marc’s head still laying on his shoulder as he walked close behind. Oliver called out to them, asking about how they knew so many languages and their first meeting, but they both just ignored him, wanting only the voices of the batknight family and each other.
[They got back, watched a movie as Bruce cuddled up to Steven, Kon was invited (much to the parents dismay) and was not so subtly cuddling Tim, Jon (again no one knew why he was here but they didn’t dare question his presence) and Damian were having a friendly argument about the characters, Jason was cuddled up with Roy (now everyone knew about them so it was just about fine) and Wally West was laying his head on Dick’s thighs, his head turned towards the screen as Dick stroked his hand through the ginger’s hair. Steph painted Cass’s nails, somehow still watching the movie. Duke was cuddled with Cleo, Marc’s own adopted daughter. When everyone went to bed, suspiciously Kon went with Tim and Jon went with Damian, Bruce and Jake cuddled together, whispering sweet nothings in any language they felt like speaking in the moment, hands raking through brown and black hair, kissing all around each others face’s. They overall decided that even though the end of the league meeting had been a disaster, the movie and this made up for it. Happily ever after]
