“My name is Reader and not to sound arrogant but-“
Wait a minute?
Your name is Reader. You are a student at PK Academy, everything has been quite boring recently. You wake up and check your clock on your nightstand. It’s still early and you’re in no rush for school so you decide to actually eat breakfast this time. You stand up slowly and stretch as you mentally prepare yourself for a long day.
“Reader!!!” You hear your name called from downstairs.
“Coming!” You replied before shuffling down the stairs to see your parent/guardian making you a simple breakfast.
You sit down and stare at the table cloth before snapping back into reality when a plate of warm food if placed in front of you. You look up and thank them before you shovel most of the food down and take a long chug of your drink. You then rush upstairs to get ready for school after cleaning up your dishes. You start your morning routine and once you feel confident in your appearance you finish by brushing your teeth.
**Ding**
A new notification on your phone.
You spit into the sink and finish up as you check the time and realize you should really get moving. You grab your phone and school bag, hoisting it over your shoulder, the keychains you added jingle softly. You knew that it’s against the dress code but you manage to sneak by the eyes of Mr.Matsuzaki.
As you put your shoes on you call out to your parent/guardian. “I’m off ! Love you !” You hear a faint “Be safe !” from the kitchen. To be honest your neighborhood wasn’t the best but far better than other areas surrounding it.
Closing the door on your way out you pull out your phone. Looking down at the gentle glowing light from your lock screen it’s a picture of you and your friends. The beautiful girl, Teruhashi, was literally glowing in the photo. An average boy, Kusuo Saiki always wore the same expression on his face no matter the occasion. The two boys bickering were Nendou and Kaido. Lastly the girl closest to the camera in the photo was Chiyo, casually talking to another girl, Mera.
Thinking back , you remember taking the photo after everyone had gone out to eat after school and you secretly snuck a photo of everyone together. You smiled to yourself as you walked the path to school.
Unlocking your phone you see that the group chat you and the girls were in was blowing up. You read the messages.
Teruhashi ✨ : Really? I had no idea!
Chiyo 🌸 : OMG!
Today 6:45 am
Chiyo 🌸 : Hey guys!! I heard that there’s a new transfer student!!
Teruhashi ✨ : Can’t wait to welcome them!
Chiyo 🌸 : I heard it was a guy!! Omg what if he’s cute!! 😆
Teruhashi ✨ : Rooting for you ! 😊
Mera 🍖 : What’s for lunch today? And can I have yours Reader?
Chiyo 🌸 : Seriously?! You can have some of mine….
Reader (You) 👀 : Another transfer? Ugh if he’s anything like Reita I’m for sure tuning out…
Reader (You) 👀 : Anyone @ school yet?
You send the messages while giggling at the fact that Mera couldn’t have cared less about the news. You would be lying if you didn’t say your interest was peaked about the new student.
As you get closer and closer to the school you meet up with Chiyo. As you two walk to class she can’t stop fantasizing about the potential relationship that can happen. You entertain her for a moment by playing along but to be honest you weren’t really sure about this. You remember Chiyo’s past experience with boys but don’t dwell on it too long.
Seating yourself you greet your classmates and friends and make a small gesture towards Saiki. Since he doesn’t talk much you decide to make your greetings and (one-sided) conversations simple.
The teacher walks in holding a small stack of papers, most likely being the most recent test everyone took. You grumble at the idea of your score before focusing your attention on her as she speaks.
“Settle down everyone. We have a new transfer student.” She says calmly and she leaves the door open for him.
The boys in the class room scoff and shrug while the girls are staring so intently as they can barely contain their interest. You are curious as you see the boy walk in.
The girls fall silent, loosing interest. “Well that’s a a bit harsh” you think to yourself. You watch him write on the board and leave a “was here !” at the end before he erased it quickly before apologizing.
Everyone found it amusing and welcomed him. Then he spoke strangely “Sup Homies..” Some guys giggled and played it off. You see Kaidou speaking to Saiki and assume it’s about the new student. While in class you stare blankly at the back of the head of the new student. Aren Kuboyasu, he seemed nice and polite. You decided to let him speak at his own pace not wanting to contribute to the overwhelming information of going to a new school full of strangers.
One Week Later………
You can’t help but be distracted in class as you doodle random things on your paper. It’s been a week since Kuboyasu had joined your class. He sat alone infront of you conflicted. You then hear the bell chime and realize it’s already break time. You decide to use the time to introduce yourself to him. Unfortunately he had already gotten up to talk to Saiki so you chose to go hang out with Teruhashi instead.
Teruhashi gleefully walks up to you when she noticed you in the hallway , Chiyo also walking over happily.
“Hey!! Do you want to go to the library to hang out for the rest of the break?” Chiyo asked as she had already started walking in the library’s direction , Teruhashi following behind her. They stopped once they noticed the slightly sheepish look on your face.
“Huh? What’s up?” said Chiyo.
“Is something wrong Reader?” Teruhashi said calmly.
“I actually wanted to introduce myself to the new student, Kuboyasu..” you say.
The girls light up and immediately run back up to you. You silently regret even speaking.
“OH MY GOSH! You totally should!” Chiyo gushes as she smiles and giggles about your potential crush.
“That’s a great idea! We can help!” Teruhashi says calculating a plan with Chiyo.
A bit later you notice that Reita is annoying Aren. Then Aren goes onto explain how he went to an all boys school before transferring. Reita walked off and lost interest which was classic for him. It seemed to make Aren angry as he stormed down the hallway.
You hear giggles behind you as you get pushed in front of him against your will. You stumbled for a moment before looking back at Chiyo and Teruhashi who were both spying from a nearby empty class. You then turn around again and see Kuboyasu walking closer.
You compose yourself and try to ignore the teasing of Chiyo trying to play match maker. You walk up to him and smile politely.
“My name is Reader! It’s nice to meet you Kuboyasu!” You extended your hand outwards. He seemed surprised and his agitation had melted away as he grabbed your hand and firmly shook it.
“Nice to meet you as well Reader.” He smiled simply and nodded. You heard small voices whispering behind you but you ignored that for now.
“If you have any questions you can always reach out to me! I hope we can become friends.” You say before hearing a commotion coming from somewhere in the hallway. You shrug and wave goodbye to Aren before walking back over to your class.
You then noticed that everyone was back and decided to join them as they all had a conversation around Saiki’s desk. Saiki’s bothered look didn’t deter anyone around him but you understood this was common.
You glance over at Kuboyasu who seems conflicted until he notices your gaze and becomes a bit embarrassed to be caught staring. You smile and wave hoping that he’d be apart of this friend group someday in the near future.
