BLACKMAIL AND CHAMPAGNE

Summary:

Phuwin Tang doesn't believe in love-but he does believe in leverage.
So when his father tries to marry him off to the one person he swore he'd never go back to, Phuwin does the only thing he's good at-
He finds something better.
Something stronger.
Something ruinous.
A video.
And at the center of it?
Pond Naravit.
Powerful. Untouchable. Dangerous.
And the one man who has hated him for years.
So Phuwin makes him a deal.
A marriage for silence.
A ring in exchange for ruin.
It should've been simple.
Fake smiles. Separate lives. No feelings.
Except nothing about Pond is simple.
Not the way he looks at Phuwin like he already knows every weakness.
Not the way he refuses to touch him when it matters-
and chooses someone else instead.
Not the way their fights feel a little too close to something else.
Something sharper. Hotter. Harder to ignore.
Because somewhere between blackmail and champagne toasts-
between quiet nights and unspoken claims-
the line between enemies and something far more dangerous begins to blur.
And when the truth finally surfaces...
It won't just destroy their marriage.
It might destroy them.

Chapter 1: PROLOGUE

Chapter Text

The first time Phuwin Tang sees the video, he doesn't react.

Not immediately.

The screen glows in the dark, cold blue light cutting across his face as the footage plays again—steady, unshaking, brutally clear. There's no distortion, no missing frames, no convenient blur to soften what it shows. Whoever recorded it knew exactly what they were doing.

Phuwin watches it once.

Then again.

And then a third time, slower now, his fingers resting lightly against the edge of the desk as if grounding himself to something solid while everything else sharpens into focus.

The room is silent except for the quiet hum of the system.

On screen, Pond Naravit does not hesitate.

That's the first thing Phuwin notices—not the setting, not the shadows, not even the man struggling beneath Pond's grip. It's the certainty. The terrifying, controlled precision in every movement, every word. There's no rush, no loss of control. Just intent, measured and deliberate, like this is simply another task being completed.

Another problem being handled.

Another loose end being tied.

Phuwin exhales slowly, leaning back into his chair as the video ends and resets, the screen flickering back to the beginning like it's waiting for him to make a decision.

Because that's what this is.

A decision.

He could delete it.

He could pretend he never saw it, let the information dissolve into the thousands of classified files that pass through his hands every day. It would be easy. Safer. Cleaner.

But Phuwin has never been particularly interested in easy.

Or safe.

His gaze drifts to the paused frame—Pond's face caught in perfect clarity, sharp lines and darker intent, eyes that look almost bored despite everything happening around him.

Untouchable.

That's what people call him.

Untouchable, unshakable, impossible to bring down.

Phuwin tilts his head slightly, studying the image like it's something new, something unfamiliar, even though Pond Naravit has been a constant presence in his life for years. Close enough to be unavoidable. Distant enough to never matter.

At least, that's what it used to be.

Before things changed.

Before something as simple as a race turned into something neither of them ever really walked away from.

Phuwin's jaw tightens, just barely, the only outward sign of a memory he doesn't let himself linger on for long. There are too many gaps in it, too many things that never quite added up no matter how many times he tried to piece them together.

It doesn't matter.

Not right now.

Right now, what matters is the man on the screen.

And the fact that for the first time in years—

Pond Naravit isn't untouchable anymore.

A slow, almost imperceptible smile curves at the corner of Phuwin's lips, gone as quickly as it appears.

Because this?

This changes everything.

Across the city, miles away and completely unaware, Pond Naravit pours himself a drink.

The glass is expensive, the liquor even more so, amber catching the low light of the room as he tilts it slightly, watching the way it settles. It's late, but that's never meant much to him. Time bends around his schedule, not the other way around.

The city stretches out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, alive in that distant, detached way that makes everything feel smaller than it actually is.

Controlled.

Predictable.

Pond takes a slow sip, expression unreadable as he sets the glass down and reaches for his phone, scrolling through messages he hasn't bothered to respond to. Most of them aren't worth the time. Few things are.

His world runs on precision.

On knowing exactly where everything is, exactly how things will play out, exactly who he can trust—

and who he can't.

Mistakes don't last long in his line of work.

Neither do the people who make them.

A faint buzz cuts through the quiet, low and insistent against the surface of the table.

Pond glances down.

Unknown number.

He doesn't answer immediately.

Instead, he watches it for a second longer than necessary, something unreadable flickering through his gaze before he finally picks it up, thumb sliding across the screen in one smooth motion.

"Speak."

There's no greeting. No patience for one.

Silence greets him on the other end.

Not empty silence—intentional silence.

Measured.

And then—

"Marry me."

Pond stills.

Just for a second.

It's subtle. Barely there. The kind of pause most people wouldn't even notice.

But it's enough.

Because he knows that voice.

Of course he does.

Phuwin Tang.

The name settles into the space between them like something inevitable, something that's been waiting for the right moment to surface.

Pond leans back slightly, fingers tapping once against the glass before stilling again, his expression sharpening into something colder, more focused.

"Careful," he says, voice low, almost amused. "You're not in a position to joke."

A quiet breath on the other end.

Then, softer—almost thoughtful—

"No," Phuwin replies. "I think I am."

There's a shift.

Not loud. Not dramatic.

But real.

The kind that doesn't announce itself until it's already happened.

Pond's grip on the phone tightens just enough to register, his gaze dropping briefly to the table before lifting again, sharper now, more alert.

"Explain."

A pause.

Deliberate.

And then—

"I have something that belongs to you," Phuwin says, voice calm, steady, like this is just another business discussion, another negotiation. "Something you'd rather not see in the wrong hands."

Pond doesn't respond.

Doesn't need to.

The silence stretches, heavier this time, charged with something unspoken and dangerous.

Phuwin doesn't rush to fill it.

He doesn't have to.

Because for the first time in a very long time—

Pond Naravit is listening.

"Meet me," Phuwin continues, as if the outcome is already decided. "Tomorrow."

Another pause.

And then, almost as an afterthought—

"Wear something nice."

The line goes dead before Pond can respond.

For a moment, he doesn't move.

Doesn't speak.

Doesn't even reach for the drink sitting untouched in front of him.

The city outside keeps moving, lights flickering, distant and irrelevant.

Inside, something shifts.

Slow.

Sharp.

Inevitable.

Pond sets the phone down carefully, his expression unreadable, but his eyes—

his eyes are no longer bored.

And somewhere, in the quiet space between control and chaos—

The first crack forms.
