Chapter Text
“What do you MEAN you don’t like the meat, Cyan? It’s the best part of the pizza! If you have a cheese, especially without the flakey salt, BROWN, it’ll taste raw! You need some smoke to it!”
“Word.”
In the cafeteria, almost the whole group was there on their lunch break. Cyan, Yellow and Brown were talking, Red had Purple backed into a corner, Blue was in the middle seat with Lime and Orange, and Black was alone in the farthest seat they could find. Everything running as it was supposed to be! Oh yeah, and the little unpaid intern in the other corner nibbling on some pizza crust. Where’d they get that? Anyways…
Everyone always forgot about them, especially since a lot of people on the ship never even talked to them. Heck, it wasn’t even their fault that nobody knew anything about Green. I mean, not for the most part. Green refrains from talking in conversations because they’re afraid of misunderstanding a social cue. They seem like just a background character, there to clean up the occasional spill and add funny background noises to meetings, such an unpaid intern should do. They didn’t really do anything around the ship, but Red always kept ‘er busy when they saw them without a task.
Green didn’t mind, though. Red was a huuuge inspiration to them. They wanted to be a captain one day, too, and Red was their mentor! As simple as that.
And when I said “almost” the whole group was there in the cafe on their lunch break, I meant that we were missing one. I mean, Green’s gotta have at least one friendmate, right?
White was missing, the contest winner on the ship. The average wealthy Joe who would always talk, talk, talk about yachts and jets and cars, luxury homes and hotels. The whole package. And their only friend on the ship? A poor, not-very-well-off worm farm assistant. How ironic, huh?
Green wasn’t sitting alone on purpose. They were waiting for White, who should’ve been there by now to lend Green an extra pizza slice underneath the table like a secret operation. They both had fun together, despite their major differences. But, White was just… gone. Green decided it would be a good idea to go looking for them like a good friendmate! First, they wanted to check the Admin hall.
“White? White??”
The pitter-patter of Green’s feet turned soft as they stepped into the Admin room, laid with carpet.
“White, are you in here?”
Green searched the chairs, to no avail. Not under the admin table, either. Why would they even be there?
And then, storage.
“White, where are you? I’m getting worried…”
Not in storage… Maybe electrical?
Nope.
The engines?
Nobody.
Security, even???
Not here, either.
“White, where are you?” ‘Maybe you’re back in the cafeteria by now, huh?’
Green was walking back to the cafeteria in defeat through the Medbay hall, and when they passed Medbay, a curtain was closed shut around a bed.
That’s strange, Blue never leaves their curtains shut. Unless…
“White? Is that you?”
Green walked into Medbay, going to the left to check out the bed. They carefully opened the curtain, and…
“Oh, hey, intern friend!”
“AH! White, why are you in here? Are you injured?”
“Oh, no.” White swirled the glass of wine in their palm. “I just needed a safe place to drink this wine so that MIRA Corp snob Orange wouldn’t catch me. Pretty smart, huh? Have a drink with me, Greenie!”
“Me? No… I wouldn’t… Wine isn’t my thing. Thank you, though! Didn’t you want some pizza?”
“Nah, not feeling it. I hate how they make us eat the same thing every— *HIC* —day. My personal chefs could do much better..!”
There they go again…
“Uh… White, are you… drunk-?”
“Me? Noooo… Why would I be?”
“How many glasses of wine have you had?”
“I’unno. Maybe like, 8.”
“EIGHT?”
Green put their hands on their head in disbelief.
“I’m surprised you haven’t been knocked out by now, White! You might need some medical attention, and-“
“Quiet… I’ll be fine…”
White reached up and put their hand on Green’s. They flushed immediately. (They are not that hard to please, considering the amount of siblings they had growing up. And them being the oldest child and all…)
“White- haha- uhm-“
White pulled Green’s hand down from their head, rubbing it with their thumb. They set their wine on the side table with a bit of struggle and reached up to hold their other hand, too. They caressed both of them gently with their thumbs.
“W-what- White- A-“
Green was basically malfunctioning now. At that point, you could’ve called them Red by how much they were blushing.
“AHA- White- Look at the time! I have to g-“
White refused to let go of their hands.
“Don’t be so hasty… Come sit with me, Greenie!”
Green considered it for a second. I mean, they couldn’t just leave White so drunk like this. They could’ve just left, but they wanted to make sure their friendmate White was safe and sound… and didn’t do anything reckless or stupid.
“Okay, White…” Green sat on the edge of the bed, their hands still in White’s.
White let out a little ‘rich, rich, money’ chuckle, and moved one of his hands to Green’s face, caressing it down. Green didn’t know how to respond. They only picked up the hand not being held and put it to their face.
“You know— *HIC* —You’re really pretty for a rustic farm worker…”
“AH?! Pretty..?”
Green LOVED compliments. White found their weak spot immediately.
“Oh, yes… Pretty- corageous, determined…” White said all of this with a smug smile on their visor.
“Oh d-I… umm… Well, geez…”
A drop of sweat rolled down Green’s face. They took their finger they were using to hold their face and moved it down to their hoodie, pulling on the hood.
“HAHA- is it hot in here-? Um- White-“
“…And smart, responsive, cute, whimsical, thoughtful, talented-“
“dAA- That’s enough! Thank you, White. Maybe you should lay down…”
Green had to stop it before they actually turned into the captain.
*Sweat, sweat, sweat.*
“Only if you lay down— *HIC* —..with me..!” White responded, pouting.
“Aha… What?”
“C’mere, Greenie! Lay with me! It’s my pleasure!”
Green sputtered nonsensically.
White took Green by the waist, pulling them down, still holding their hand. Green lost their balance, tripping and putting their hands on the bed for stability before falling on. Green was completely frozen, though it felt amazing to be complimented so highly by White, a perfect role model…
Green could’ve left at any time. They didn’t. White picked up Green’s other hand, interlocking it with their own.
“Well- I… uhm.. I’m sure they won’t mind if I don’t show up… just once…” Green looked away, completely flushed.
“Yay!” White cheered. “You’re my favorite crewmate on this ship, Greenie, ya’kno? It’s so nice to— *HIC* — meet someone so different… but you’re so nice! You always have a willingness to help. I need to be more like y…”
White’s endless rambling faded as Green zoned out to their face. They were so close… It made Green fluster up again. White’s shiny visor… They must keep it every day. Not even a scratch on it. It even looked shinier up close-
“And, in fact, that crewmate Red told me that— Green? Greenie? Are you listening?”
“Huh-? Oh! Yes, White, I’m listening..!”
“So, yeah, I think your dream to be a captain is very heroic…”
“Dhhum- Haha- Gee, you don’t mean that…”
Green didn’t know what to do.
“I said i’m not— *HIC* —drunk…”
“Wh- YOU DRANK EIGHT GLASSES OF WINE!”
“Hmmhmmph…”
“I… know you don’t mean everything you say about me… I’m just an unpaid intern! I don’t really do anything…”
“Mmm… I mean everything I say, Greenie… and I can prove it!”
“Uhm- prove it..? How could you-“
Before Green could finish their sentence, White took one of their hands to the back of Green’s head, and the other to take off their dusty cap. Green immediately knew what they were implying with these actions, and turned tomato red.
“W-whITE! Uh- HAHA- UM- y-you… geez- uh… l-let’s think about this- I-i’ll do it but- gee- you- you will think differently of me when you’re sober- i promise! I-i know you don’t want to ruin your reputation because of me- haha- if someone comes in here and-!”
“Shhh, Greenie… it’s okay…”
White grabbed Green’s waist again, pulling them even closer in. Green was shaking hard, their cheeks burning hot. Green was absolutely not opposed to this, but they were worried about White’s reputation. After all, White was the perfect crewmate. At least to Green, of course.
“A-and you’re sure? I don’t know if you should bother with me- I mean-! I’m not good with things like this, White-”
“Mmmhmm… Just calm down… I’ll take care of you, okay? I got you, Greenie…”
“But- but- no one will like yo-“
White leaned in, taking Green by surprise as they pressed their faces together. White nuzzled into Green, getting them even redder. They put both of their hands on the back of Green’s head, keeping them steady and level. Green decided to do the same to match whatever White did, and put one hand on their head and another on their neck. Green squirmed around with their legs because they couldn’t keep themself still without stimulation. White pulled Green’s legs on top of theirs, and Green immediately stopped moving them.
Green started to drum on White’s back to get them to let them go for a second.
White released to give Green some air, and they immediately started taking audible deep breaths.
“Hahh- I can’t breathe-“
“Wooow, I didn’t expect you to be a good kisser, Greenie!”
“Must be uhm… genetics…” Green lied through their teeth. It was 100% all the worm kissing they did in the silo. Looks like it paid off…
White caressed Green’s face again, using their thumb to rub their cheek. “Mhmm…”
Green rubbed the back of their head. “Well- I… uhm- YOU are… too…”
White planted a small kiss on Green’s forehead, putting them in a daze. At that point, you could call Green drunk, too.
“Hahahaaaha…”
“Oh, are you falling for my charm, Greenie?”
“Uhm- I… well…” Green’s voice rose to an unsure tone. “Nooooo…?”
“Hmm~? What was that, intern buddy?”
White gave Green another kiss near their visor.
“Mm- White…”
“Whattabout now?”
“Well, uhm-“
Another one just above their visor.
“Ahaha-!”
“Am I pretty too, Greenie?”
White cupped Green’s cheeks in their hands.
Green’s head started to spiral… they have never had this level of affection before.
White started landing kisses everywhere around Green’s face, making them short circuit and sputter. Green was extremely clammy and sweaty, playing with their own fingers before grabbing White’s back in a panic.
Green took a quickened breath in. “Okay, okay, yes! I uhm… also… think you’re pretty…” Green looked away, their confidence high fading, trailing their hands back up to White’s and interlocking their fingers.
After White hadn’t said anything, Green looked back to see them trying their best to stay awake.
White was dozy, and they nuzzled underneath Green.
“Hm, are you going to sleep, White..?”
“Mm…”
“Well… If you’re going to sleep, no need for me anymore… I guess I should go…”
Green began to get up, but White immediately grabbed them and pulled them back down.
“Mm, noo.. it’s—*HIC*—so coold…”
“Huh-!? Oh- gee, you want me to stay?”
“Mmmmm…”
Green wordlessly laid back down and pulled White back into the cradle of their neck. They rubbed the back of their head until they fell asleep, which felt quite strange for Green since they don’t do this often, but as long as White was happy. Green was afraid that when White woke up, they would be disappointed. Disgusted, even. They swallowed down their fears and fell asleep themselves, slowly dozing off warmly.
To them both, it felt like they could sleep there forever. They spent a full day in Medbay.
