Work Text:
If you changed your favorite color
From the once bright green
My spaces would remain the same
My room and its bedsheets
The walls would remain the color of the forest
My clothing wouldn't change
The blanket you left behind
My plants
My LEDs
Every other item keeping its green hue
If your favorite color changed
Nothing would change in my room
From my clothing to my space
The only thing missing would be you
If we met on the grass underneath the trees
And along with me you fell in love with the color green
The color would be our new thing
Like how a song is the thing of the birds
To sing in the treetops each morning
Nature would seen a bit more beautiful
As the colors would fall back to you
I'd wear shades of green clothing
Start drinking matcha tea
Salads for lunch
My rose colored glasses would be tinted green
If you were captivated by colors other than green
The leaves would still flow with the breeze
The grass would still grow
And every morning the birds would still sing
I wouldn't pluck every leaf and mow the grass until my lawn looks dead
There'd be no point if the green grew back brighter
As your eyes drifted to where green meets pink
I wouldn't force anything
If green no longer suited you
I'd take you to the sand's tan
The sun's yellow
And the ocean's blue
If green wasn't your favorite color
My room would remain the same
All my plants by the window
And the same bedspread
Cup of matcha on my nightstand
Dark green hoodies in my closet
If you strayed away from green
I'd take you to the city to see all the grays and whites
Black in the evening
And the orange setting sky
And you'd stare at the dusk before dark
Where the magenta fades into black
I'd watch you while wearing your green jacket
Because even if you change
The color wouldn't change with you
It reminds me of where we met
Green is the color of my room
If green was no longer your color
I'd take you to tour flower fields
A variety as far as the eye can see
Tulips in every color
Yet their stems will stay green
Id laugh and pull you along
Your eyes tracing the fuchsia of each petal
See how each flower blooms
Learning of all the different colors there are
Never lowering your gaze to the green of their roots
If you disliked green
Matcha no longer your favorite drink
You'd say it tastes like grass
And grass is dirty
The trees would grow loud
In the forest where we'd meet
The songbird's song turns into an aching shrill
If you couldn't stand green
You'd look away when the color reminds you of me
In the salads I eat
In the tinted glasses that turn from green to rose to eventually nothing
Then you'll look back at my face
Away from what it reminds you of
Look fondly at my blush
But not at me
We'd have a talk in the kitchen
Your eyes straying from my blank face
You find something to look at
The brown of the floor
Or the gray of the kitchen sink
The talk grows in ferocity
Words growing more vibrant
We'd circle around the same point
As if you're attracted to the same words of scarlet
I'll say something that would bring you back
To me and the green I've always had
The intensity of my eyes would make you mad
Make you yell the things you've held back
How my sweaters seem almost irritating
More than a couple months ago
How my LEDs bathed my skin in green
Like the color follows wherever you go
Regardless of what it meant to me
If you forgot about green
Your eyes wander the rainbow anew
Skip over the color afer yellow like its nothing to see
Your eyes skipping over me
It'd be easy to let you go
Once I realize
Theres no point in being green,
If your new favorite color is pink
