Work Text:
Fluixon and Saparata were a well established couple.
And that was before. Last year, they were all over each other, until they had a long and petty argument about something stupid, something they didn’t communicate properly.
Which led to a breakup full of yelling, arguing and walking out.
And maybe, just maybe they both hated the fact it ended that way, so abrupt and with no closure whatsoever.
It was all anger and hatred at the start, but it slowly became regret and frustration. And now, bitterness and cut off communication.
Maybe Flux did resent Saps and didn’t want to see him again ever, but at the same time– he wondered why he always looked for him in the halls at school. He wondered why his heart dropped every time he would see Saps talk to someone else.
The small eye contact and glares they gave each other everyday were almost too much to count, their friends would always notice and bring it up too. And they would never pass on an opportunity to inconvenience the other for whatever reason. They broke up didn’t they?
But Flux wondered again, why did he continue to check Saps’ profiles? Why did he choose to unblock him on a random day? Why did something in him hope that he would get a message from Saps one day?
Having no contact for a year was.. something, maybe something awful.
—
It was about 10PM on a Friday, and Flux was sitting alone on a table, waiting for his friends, Thomas, Snowbird, Gotoga and Rotation who went to get drinks– he had been ranting non stop earlier so they figured he just needed to calm down.
The four came back after a while with a tray of drinks, the aroma quickly filling their booth as they all sat down.
Flux couldn’t say that he wasn’t fond of parties, they were okay apart from the obnoxious people who constantly made noise and were just a nuisance in general. Though, this was probably his best coping mechanism whenever he got bitter about last year.
“Guys, why don’t we play truth or dare?” Thomas said, everyone else quickly agreed as they all took shots.
Flux wasn’t really listening, too much was on his mind, and he probably didn’t even notice he was already on his fourth drink.
But he could handle his drinks well, alcohol had a great effect on him and he was grateful that he didn’t really get drunk easily. But he could tell most of his friends were light weights or drank impulsively.
His friends were giggling and aimlessly took more shots as the game went on. “So, whose next?” Snowbird asked, putting his glass down.
They all looked at Flux who had been staring at his phone, it was his turn for truth or dare.
“Ooh, Flux. Why are you so interested in your phone?” Snowbird teased while grabbing Flux’s phone out of his hands– checking what's on his screen that he’d been looking at since earlier. “What’re you looking at?”
Everyone at the table in unison went “oohh” as they saw Saps’ contact on his screen. Flux had been ranting about him earlier but here he was, staring at Saps’ number and probably deciding whether to text him.
“Give me my phone back! i.. did not mean to click that.” Flux lied, he always did. But his friends could see through it anyway, even when drunk. Guess that tells a lot.
“Suree, truth or dare?” Gotoga chimed in, leaning towards Flux on the other side of the table.
Flux was certain that if he chose truth they would just ask him if he still liked Saps, he knew them too well– and they’ve been teasing him since the start of the party. He had to choose dare instead and just hope they wouldn’t make him do any dumb shit.
He sighed and closed his phone. “Dare.”
“I dare you to call Saps and say goodnight.” Gotoga whispered but loud enough for the table to hear, grinning.
…
Everyone in the table collectively said “oohh” again right as Flux’s heart dropped, he would’ve preferred literally anything– but this? Shit, he was gonna start bribing them to not make him do it.
Do it, Flux!
Go on, tell him goodnight!
It’s a dare, you have to do it.
Be fun just for tonight.
He took a deep breath as he grabbed his phone, making everyone tease him even louder– he clicked on Saps’ contact that he had just unblocked a few days ago, he was starting to rethink his decisions and why he had even agreed to go to this party.
He winced as he clicked the “call” button, everyone went silent as it started to unexpectedly ring. God, if he could disappear right now he would.
“Hello?” Flux said in a low voice, pretending his heart wasn’t literally racing out of his chest as Saps answered the call.
..Hello?
“What are you doing?”
Laying in bed.. Why?
Flux could hear Saps’ confusion through his voice. It was a bit funny, but he still hated this whole idea and just wanted to get it over with.
“I just wanted to call you to say goodnight.”
Silence filled the other end. Flux was fighting the urge to just end the call right there and to never speak of this again.
..Do you know who this is?
“This is Saps, isn’t it?”
Flux’s heart was still beating fast as his friends listened closely to the call, he could see some of them whispering and he knew he wasn’t going to hear the end of this.
Yeah, it is.
“Well, goodnight, sleep well.”
Flux quickly hung up the call– this wasn’t how he thought the night was gonna go, he hadn't spoken to Saps on the phone in a while and hearing his voice again was something. His heart was still racing hard and he quickly took another shot.
“I hate all of you.” Flux spouted as all of his friends laughed and continued to tease him throughout the night.
—
It’s been a day since the party, and Flux was still thinking about the call with Saps. To make it worse, a chat window opened on their contacts, the only message being “Audio call, 1 min, 3 sec”
I mean, what a way to break a year of no contact right? in such a stupid way too. Who says goodnight to their ex that they absolutely loathe?
Flux had a strong urge to text Saps that it was just a dare or that he was blackout drunk– that he didn’t say goodnight so sweetly by his own will. But at the same time he didn’t want to be the first to talk again. He would probably embarrass himself way more.
Being exes who don’t talk to each other is hard. But becoming the “desperate” one is even harder.
So he was waiting. Waiting patiently to see if Saps would ever ask about it again, it was a painful first interaction after a year and Flux cringed every time he thought about it– which was every second of the day.
He did wonder if Saps ever thought about it again too, i mean, imagine if your ex called you up again for the first time in a year just to say goodnight. But Flux did hang up before Saps could say anything after; or maybe say it back.
It was about 2AM, and Flux couldn’t sleep at all. He was too busy staring up at his ceiling and over analysing. He groaned at the thought of school on Monday, Saps usually told his annoying friends literally anything Flux did.
Flux hated to admit it– but Saps’ stupid face, his white hair, golden eyes and moles were all he thought about every night. Flux wanted to see his smile again and to be the reason why he did.
But he was supposed to despise Saps, there's absolutely no way they would be getting back together. That whole call probably meant nothing to Saps anyway, might’ve ruined his night altogether too.
And yet, Fluixon couldn’t bring himself to actually, actually hate Saparata. He dated him in the past for a reason and even before that, he apparently didn’t “like” him as a person.
Final conclusion? Flux just misses Saps so much that he can’t stand the thought of him.
He was so definitely, inevitably going to become the annoying, desperate ex now.
Flux quickly snapped out of his trance as he heard his phone buzz. All of his contacts were muted though, who could be texting him this late at night?
His heart quickly dropped as he saw the first two numbers of Saps’ phone number, looking down at the message he received.
“no good night?”
