Summary
At the end of the Great Purge, twenty five years ago, Uther Pendragon banished the High Priestess Nimeuh and anyone who practised magic to the farthest corners of Camelot, a dark and desolate place soon named the Perilous Lands. In the years that followed, no one with magic dared step foot in Camelot, on pain of death.
That is until Prince Arthur's twenty fifth birthday, where he makes a royal decree inviting a sorcerer to Camelot, in an attempt to put aside old prejudices and unite the people of Camelot.
Which is a lovely speech, but Merlin knows it's a trap. It doesn't matter how distractingly pretty the Prince is, there's no way he actually means what he says about honour and justice and being a different ruler to his father.
Only the longer Merlin spends in Camelot and the closer they become, suddenly he isn't so sure.
