out of the loop

Summary:

You've held it off long enough. Days, weeks, months that you've left him clueless to his father's fate, and the guilt is eating you alive. Something has to change. You have a responsibility, don't you?

You're Ladybug, and one way or another, you're going to tell Adrien the truth.

(A Choose Your Own Adventure where you, as Ladybug, must navigate the conversation in the hopes of telling Adrien the truth about his father. Try, as many times as it takes.)

Notes:

This is a Choose Your Own Adventure style fic, one where you decide how Ladybug goes about revealing the truth.

How do I play? What are the rules?

DON’T view the entire work — DO view via chapter by chapter instead.

DON’T use “Next chapter” to progress — DO utilize the choices linked within the chapters themselves.

DON’T back out of pages to undo choices — DO use the hotlinks provided within the chapters. Endings will send you back to the start for replayability's sake.

DON'T look through the chapter index. You'll be spoiled!

❗VERY IMPORTANT, READ BEFORE CONTINUING:❗
As per the tags, the word count is closer to 15k because there's a looooot of html backend stuff that unfortunately bloats the word count. The coding is essential to how this fic functions, but I kept running into a problem that I couldn't fix without compromising other important parts of it all, SO:

Most chapter hotlinks will take you to the bottom of the page. It's annoying, and as a result you'll be shown choices you're not supposed to see until you read the rest of the chapter, so you'll unfortunately have to just get in the habit of scrolling up on every new chapter. DO NOT use the "Top" button AO3 provides at the end of pages, or you will discard all your progress.

Mobile users, please swipe to the top of your page. Desktop users, please either use your scroll wheel OR shortcut SHIFT + SPACEBAR (either held down or spammed a couple times) to take you further up the page.

I apologize for the inconvenience. I'm not well-versed in HTML nor CSS beyond what I've gathered searching for what I've needed, so if anyone knowledgeable in code knows a solution I can implement.......please dear god i am desperate LOL

With all that preamble out of the way, please enjoy!

Chapter 1: Begin

Chapter Text

Evening basks the Parisian skyline in muted twilight. Though the city isn't one for true sleep, the activity ebbs and wanes right around now. With a little luck, an akuma won't show its face for at least a few hours.

And a little luck is just what you're known for.

You sail across the city, yo-yo in tow, until your feet find purchase at your destination. You knock on the window's glass before you can lose your nerve.

The room's resident startles, bolting upright from his couch.

[Adrien] Ladybug?

You take a breath, steel your nerves, and properly prepare yourself. There's no turning back now.

You’re going to tell him the truth about his father.

“Good evening, Adrien.”

Surpass him.

Surpass him.

Almost there.

—again and again.

You wonder distantly what number you're on now. Like it even matters.

You stopped counting after 25,913.

.

You tell him. You fail. You do it again.

.

.

.

You won't fail. You will tell him. You'll do it forever.

Within the infinite five minutes, you'll find perfection.

.

He performs his part, his line.

It flows with a cadence you’d be a fool not to have memorized. A constant, playing his role without fault. A variable, the fault lying with you. Lies. All lies. It's sickening. You'll never be sick again.

You'll find a way to tell him.

Endless

You've reached Ending E — ENDLESS! You've successfully interpreted the rabbit's clues... or just made a very educated guess! Either way, congrats on accessing the most difficult to find ending! This is the only one that requires link editing shenanigans, and is therefore the only one inaccessible via jumping through the chapter index. If you've made it here, odds are you've uncovered everything else about this fic, so thank you dearly for joining this ride.

Given that this ending is hidden within the very first chapter, I ask that if you happen to comment about this, to please direct it over to the 'other' Ending E over here, please and thank you!
