Chapter Text
"I still can't believe we're here," Chloe said beaming, shoving her stuff into her locker.
"You mean at school orientation, decorating our lockers or here as in... the present?" Red questioned, leaning closer to whisper the last two words.
"Both?" Chloe said, looking back at her. "Red we literally went to the past, changed the course of history, and traveled back without anyone finding out. I don't wanna jinx it but it finally feels like everything could be..."
"Okay?" Red filled in, smiling. "I feel it too. I mean, my mom's nice. Your mom's alive. Now we just have to leave the past in the past and rid of the pocket watch before school starts tomorrow.
They both take a moment to just sigh in relief and appreciate not being under pressure. Then Red moves to leave. "Meet me at my locker in 5. I know the perfect place to hide it."
Chloe nods, watching her walk away for a moment before exciting digging into the stuff for her locker. She hums as she decorates it, putting care in where she place every little thing.
Meanwhile Red just places her stuff into her locker, not caring to decorate it. "Okay. Looks good enough to me."
She sees a letter, making her eyebrows furrow. "What's this?"
Red reads it and her eyes go wide, immediately she calls for the one person who can help. "Um... Chloe? We have a problem!"
Chloe shoves the decoration she was hanging up into her locker and immediately rushes over. She looks at the letter in Red's hand and her eyebrows furrow just like her best friend's did.
"I know what you did?" She said, reading the letter and gently pulling it closer. Her hand brushes Red and she feels her stomach flutter with butterflies. But that wasn't important right now this could be life or death.
Red swallows, lowering her tone "...you don't think it's that? I mean, no one could possibly know what we did, right?"
Chloe steps back, trying to stay calm. "Well according to this note, somebody does."
"Ugh no break for us I guess. If they know that we changed history, we have to figure out what they want. This person could have malicious intentions." Red said, turning to look back at Chloe. "They could expose our secret."
"This is a huge problem. We have to figure out who wrote the note," Chloe squeaked, gesturing to the piece of paper in front of them.
"Well obviously Princess, and fast since we still have to get rid of the pocket watch," Red looked around, going to close the locker.
"I have an idea." Chloe said, looking around the hallway. Like whatever she was about to say couldn't be heard by prying ears. "The Sorcerers Cookbook. I mean, it would for sure have a spell that could help us."
Red's face scrunches up in surprise and a bit of amusement, she gives Chloe an odd look. "Are you serious Princess? The Sorcerers Cookbook? The dangerous spell book that's banned? Looks like some of VK has rubbed off on ya."
Chloe just sighs and gives her a look, "Are you going to gloat or are you going to help me?"
"Well, we left the book in the past. So... where is it in this timeline?" Red questioned, looking around like it's going to magically appear.
"I might have an idea. Although I'm not really sure it's a good one." Chloe said, looking at the principal's office. "But I'm gonna need your VK skills."
Red raised her brows, placing the letter back in her locker. She follows Chloe through the hallway to the door of Uma's office.
Chloe gestures to the locked door and Red smirks before jigging in bobby pin in the lock. It clicks open and they enter the office. Chloe looks around for a safe or something that would be used to store a book. When she spots it, she gets Red's attention and directs it toward the lock box, gesturing for her to pick the lock once more.
The redhead listens, jamming her bobby pin into the lock, clenching her jaw when she has to keep wiggling it. This one takes longer to get open but it eventually pops open.
"This used to be Merlin's office when he was principal. So reason stands that a banned book would probably be kept..." Chloe trailed off, pulling open the safe.
"In his safe." Both her and Red said at the same time. They turn and smile at each other, getting distracted looking into each other's eyes.
Red clears her throat, snapping her gaze toward the book. "It's in there thank the rabbits."
Chloe leans forward and picks up the book, blowing the dust off the cover. It definitely hadn't been touched it years, which was weird considering she was holding it yesterday.
They walk back to Chloe's dorm with Red searching through the book. Chloe watches her, finding the little furrow inbetween her brows cute as she focused.
When they get to Chloe's locker, she throws open the door and Red gets stands right next to her. "I found it. It's called Verbum Absconditum Revelatum Est oil or Voltis oil. When sprayed on written words, it reveals the name of their author."
Chloe points to where Red was reading to help herself focus better. "Of course! It's usually used to reveal secret admirers."
"Okay, let's split up and find the ingredients." Chloe says.
Red nods in agreement, "Okay." She says, then closes the book while Chloe shuts her locker.
She's a little sad to have to separate from Chloe but they have to get the ingredients. So she just tries to get them quickly, wanting to get back to Chloe.
Meanwhile Chloe is waiting behind Luis. One of the ingredients is a chocolate chip cookie and right now he's holding one. She could just go to the cafeteria and get one but well, he's right there.
She waits until he reaches up to grab something then snatches it from his hand, quickly scurrying away to not get caught.
Her next victim is Hazel Hook, who she takes an alligator tooth from. Then some boy drinking tea, who she distracts by knocking his hat off his head then snatching his tea bag as he bends down to get his hat.
Chloe luckily gets away with getting both those things then takes the ingredients back to Red. She's already waiting for Chloe at her locker, holding her ingredients.
They start to mix stuff, Red taking charge as she tells Chloe she's done stuff like this before. The blue haired girl isn't sure what she means by that, but she's probably better off not asking for any details of Red's past.
Chloe reads off the directions to her, watching Red focus as she pours. She looks down at the book to read off the last direction. "Okay, now the book says to give the vital a strong shake and the oil should be ready to use on the note."
Red capped the potion and shook it. Until their attention is caught by Hazel angrily screaming.
"Hey! Some asshole stole my crocodile tooth! If you don't give it back right now I'll hook you!" Hazel threatened, thrashing her hook at anyone passing in the hall.
Red accidentally drops the potion, getting distracted by the commotion, and pink gas starts filling the air.
"Uh no! This recipe calls for alligator tooth. Not crocodile! I'm not sure what potion this could possibly be." Chloe exclaimed, looking down at the book in worry. She flipped through the pages, attempting to find the potion they just made
Red clutches her arm, trying to get her attention as the pink gas grows. She points down at the broken glass vile, giving Chloe a sheepish look.
"Quick, hold your breath!" Chloe said, not saying anything or blaming her for breaking it.
They both plug their noses, Red trying to wave away the pink gas. Luckily it disappears after just a few seconds, letting both the girls unplug their noses.
"Something tells me that was not supposed to happen." Red said while Chloe was still waving her arm wildly in the air. She turns and gives her a side glance that meant 'no shit'.
Someone behind them lets out a grunt and they turn to see people asleep. The old English teacher is passed out on one of the students shoulder, a loud snore leaving his lips.
Chloe and Red look at each other is horror. Chloe grabs Red's forearm, looking mildly terrified. "What in the fairy tales did we do to the whole school!? Stupid crocodile tooth!"
Red looks around, exasperated and unsure what to do. This definitely wasn't supposed to happen.
