“Buckley?!” he yelled again, then turned the flashlight on his phone as bright as it would allow and shined it out as he walked.
His breath seized in his chest when it lit up Buck's cell phone lying on the pavement, blood on its screen. He picked it up and pocketed it, then he was frantically pointing the light all around. “Buck, talk to me!” he yelled as he continued up the alley. There was a blue dumpster against one wall and his eye caught the bottom of a shoe poking out from behind it. Buck's shoe. Buck's unmoving shoe.
“Buck!” He cried out, hurrying to round the dumpster. “Oh god!” His friend was curled up on his side, blood on his pants, soaked to the bone from the rain that mercilessly poured down on them. He fell to his knees beside him, hands shakily reaching out to find a pulse, praying...
But he hadn't touched him for more than a moment before Buck was screaming and flailing. “Buck! Buck, it's me! It's Eddie! Buckley!”
