Chapter 1: Hot Off The Press

Chapter Text

He closes the door to his office, turning to you.

Your boss, Chris Redfield, was a very strict and determined man at work. He'd always make sure everyone was working and acting correctly.

Mr. Redfield wasn't the type of guy you could easily befriend either. After being employed as his assistant, helping him plan and organize, you knew that all too well.

Or at least you thought.
Sooner or later, you noticed him start to..warm up to you during shifts. He'd flash a small smile or two, give you consoling advice, and even offer you coffee once in a while.

The two of you, or at least based on what was said around the workplace, were a red hot item.
People always gossiped:

“Someone's got a soft spot!”
“I bet they make out after meetings!”
“Why can't something like that happen to me??”

You tried to downplay it, telling everyone that Redfield was just being nice, and that it was required for someone of your position.

It was plain to see that you were catching feelings for him too.

“The party's a bit disruptive, isn't it?”
Redfield said to you, jokingly.

The company party was indeed full of ruckus, people drinking, singing to the music. Nothing like any other office party you've seen.

“A bit?”
You say back, chuckling as you smile at him.

Redfield walked up to you as you stood next to his empty chair, hands together like any other normal day. Your outfit was a bit more colorful and party-like, however.

“You don't have to be so professional, y'know.”

Redfield chuckled a very faint chuckle, his smirk making your face heat up.

“Sorry. Just muscle memory..”

Redfield frowned.

“If anything, you should be out there dancing and getting drunk.”

You chuckled, bashfully looking away. You couldn't help but agree.

“That's enough, alright? I'm not going out there..”

You said shyly. Despite the silent agreement, you still wanted to be with Redfield in the office.

Redfield recognized your nervousness, stopping his teasing.

“Alright. I'll stop.. If you want though, I could go out there and get you something. Like a pastry, or juice or something.”

You smiled warmly at his request.

“I'd like that, thank you.”

Redfield smiled back, nodding as he walked over to his office door, opening it and gently closing it as he walked out.

You were left there, in that dimly lit office room now. Pictures and books on shelves, a nice and big wooden desk to your right, and the chandelier, contrasting the bright lights beaming through the door's cracks in the rest of the office building.

You've basically seen it a million times.

You walked around, your hand dragging on Redfield's desk.
Files, pens, paperclips, a picture framed of everyone at the office, and a small nameplate.
C. Redfield.

Now at the front of his desk, you push yourself up and sit on the top of it.

You swung your legs around slightly, smiling to yourself as you thought about what Redfield might be doing.

You wondered if he heard about the rumors too.
The rumors about you and him being a thing, having a secret relationship, etcetera.
Now that you think of it, he probably had heard at least a bit of them.

Soon enough, Redfield opened the door, using his back to open it wide.

“Hey. I got you some juice. They barely had any.”

Chris chuckled, looking at the two drinks and up at you. He noticed how you looked, sitting on his desk. He swallowed.

“You… you look good. Has… has anyone said that to you tonight?”

You feel your face heat up, smiling wide as you look away.

“Thank you, Redfield. And.. no, they haven’t.”
You said sincerely.

Redfield walks up to you, handing you the juice you asked for.

“It's my pleasure.”

He pauses, chuckling as he recalls something.

“You know, they were talking about us out there.”

Your eyes jolt up to look at him, gently taking the juice in his hands.

“Really..?”

Chris smirked, looking away.

“Yeah. It was…”

Chris pauses, trying to gauge out a reaction from you to determine what to say.

“Stupid, wasn't it?”
You said, a slight frown on your face.
Redfield chuckled to your frown.

“I wouldn't say stupid.”

Redfield spoke, trying to reassure you. After all, he really didn't think the rumors were stupid. Annoying, yes. But to him, he didn't want them to be…untrue, exactly.

Redfield's getting closer to you, his legs almost up against yours as you sit on his desk.

“Intriguing is a better word for it.”

Chris spoke, a small devilish smile on his face.

You feel your knees slightly press onto his legs.

“I..I guess so.”

Chris looked into your eyes. He also took a small glance at your lips, but with the dimly lit room, you didn't see it.

“Are you free after tonight? Because I can't for the life of me be by myself with all of this alcohol.”

He let out another deep chuckle, the kind you'd play over and over in your head.

Redfield's face leaned closer to yours, the air in the room changing drastically as he did.

You giggled, biting your lip as you came closer as well.

“Im available. Is there anything specific you need done?”

The question you always asked him during work hours. The two of you were such teases at this moment.

Redfield's hands lay on his desk, on either side of you. You can feel his body heat radiating around you.

His cologne was very potent, but also alluring at the same time.

“Just some..”

He pauses, the tension rising.

“Debriefing, is all..”

Redfield whispered, a smirk on his face as he leaned in to kiss you, closing his eyes.

Your brain was going haywire, and your eyes were wide. Redfield was going to KISS you!?!? It was obvious but you couldn't believe it.

Bracing for impact, shutting your eyes tight as you get ready and-

“Mister Redfield! I-”

another voice spoke out as you heard the door open.

The man calling Redfield out was one of your co-workers, Fred, enjoying the party and wanting your boss (or whatever he was at that moment) to join in.

Definitely not the time.

Redfield's head jerks around to look behind him and at the poor fellow.

He stammers, looking in other directions. You meanwhile, try to stay out of view, attempting to shrink yourself down to stay within Redfield's shadow.

“Uhm, not now, Fred. I don't feel like partying tonight.”

“Why not, Mister Redfield? C'mon, we have drinks and music and-”

“Im fine without them, Shackleford. Go.”

A few deafening seconds of silence lingers in the room. Fred's eyes look down, widening as they gaze over your shoes in between Redfield's legs. He looks back up, grinning.

Redfield's face turns a shade redder, looking away as he realizes where Fred's eyes are.

Your co-worker pipes up.
“Mister Redfield? Are you sure you aren-”

“Frederick.”

Fred, now frowning, finally leaves the room in sorrow. He somehow thought he would get through Redfield's tough outer shell.

Good thing you already cracked through it.

He turns back to look at you, his embarrassment showing on his face.

“I’m deeply sorry about that,”

Redfield says, only glancing back at you after a few seconds.

“I should’ve locked that door.”

You giggle, your heart still pounding.

“You should’ve, yeah.”

You mutter, your eyes only on his lips, still shocked from your almost-kiss.

Redfield chuckles, his hand coming up to hold your chin. It wasn't controlling, however. He let you look up at him yourself.

Your breath hitches, as your lips part.

“Mr. Redfield, I-”

“Chris, please.”
He said, cutting off your speech in a less firm and more desperate tone than usual.

Your lips gently come together in a passionate kiss, your hands reaching up to wrap around his neck. His aftershave and cologne filled your nostrils. In between breaths you muttered his name. Chris, Chris..

After a few more seconds, Chris pulls away, muttering a swear under his breath. The two of you bask in the silence for what seems like eternity. That kiss changed everything between you two. He wasn’t just your boss anymore.

“Can we… Can we get out of here?”
