Summary
Kimodameshi: known in English as a test of courage, is a Japanese activity in which people explore frightening and potentially dangerous places to build up courage.
According to local legend, the woods on the southern edge of town were haunted, home to yokai and other supernatural beasts that liked to prey on the foolish humans that wandered into their domain. Every year, around this time, the daring - or the stupid - would try their luck to see how far they could make it.
