Ruggie had no idea how he’d gotten himself in this situation, but here he was, sitting in Jade’s room, the eel’s gloved hand gripping his open jaw. He had always had the tongue piercing. It wasn’t new, but Jade had never noticed it before now.
And Jade was perplexed.
He had Ruggie perched on his bed, studying the little pearl of metal in the centre of his tongue meticulously. The focus was serious; Jade was determined to find out why someone would ever do this to their tongue. How did it improve eating habits? Did it prevent snoring by keeping your tongue off the roof of your mouth? Was there even a reason?
“I’m having trouble understanding, my dear.” Jade removed his thumb from where it had been inserted under Ruggie’s tongue, a perfectly placed frown on his lips. “Why would you put this on your tongue?”
Wiping a bit of drool from the corner of his mouth, Ruggie shrugged. “Dunno. It just seemed cool.”
‘It just seemed cool’ only immersed Jade deeper into his world of wonder.
“Really? There’s no. . .benefit of piercing your tongue?”
“Not that I know of.”
“There’s nothing functional whatsoever? No reason to even consider it?”
“There is one thing.” An amused chuckle slipped between Ruggie’s teeth, hiding it behind his hand. “Wanna try it, babe?”
Jade furrowed his brows slightly, trying to read the hyena’s playfulness. He wouldn’t admit it, but he enjoyed the way Ruggie made him wonder what would happen next. It was like walking out into the unknown to follow a familiar voice.
“Try it. . . ? You want to put it through my tongue?” Jade asked, tilting his head to the side. Ruggie laughed again, shaking his head.
“No, I meant I’m gonna show you how to use it,” Ruggie explained, leaning into Jade. He didn’t resist Ruggie’s advances, one hand coming up to touch his shoulder. Ruggie shifted onto his knees, now looming above Jade with the smirk of someone who knew exactly what he was doing. “You ready?”
“I suppose,” Jade said, catching a glimpse of Ruggie’s canines in that smile he so cherished. The sight shot something warm through him that he quite liked. Ruggie’s hands cupped Jade’s cheek, his thumb brushing his skin as he leaned in.
They had kissed before, sure, but when Jade felt Ruggie’s tongue run across the seam of his lips, something electric cracked between them. He parted his lips, letting Ruggie’s tongue delve into his mouth. Jade pulled him close, his cheeks just the faintest tint of pink as Ruggie dominated the kiss.
Now Jade understood what Ruggie had meant when he said he would show him the use. Every time the metal of the piercing pressed into his tongue, he shivered, hyperaware of the hyena’s hands on him. It ignited a passion Jade didn’t know he had, and it was wonderful. After a good presentation of all the wonderful uses of his tongue piercing, Ruggie pulled back, nipping at Jade’s bottom lip.
“How’s that?” Ruggie smirked.
Jade didn’t speak momentarily, the rush of the new and exciting way to kiss still buzzing in his head. He composed himself quickly (as always), looking up at Ruggie with a calculating and intrigued expression. It was such a simple question; was it good or was it bad? The moray couldn’t bring himself to answer, not yet. He needed to do it again, just to be sure of his decision.
Pulling Ruggie back down, Jade was already conducting his next oral experiment. And Ruggie had no reason to complain.
