Chapter Text
The last thing the angel of justice remembered was tumbling down through clouds of asphodel, hand in hand with the angel of integrity as he felt his wings crinkle and peel away like hyacinth florets plucked from their stems.
And then he woke up. Immediately, he felt guilty. He didn’t remember what exactly he’d done wrong, but he knew that he was now a fallen angel. Back in heaven, Yellow had heard real bad things about fallen angels before, enough bad things to assume that they was mostly criminells.
They were all cast down from heaven for going against Flowery’s orders, and were quickly replaced with new angels to ensure there were always 8.
Yellow wondered what his and Blue’s replacements were like. Probably much better than him…
Blue awoke to the sound of Yellow muttering unintelligibly under his breath, saying something about his memory and what he deserved. The second thing wasn’t unusual, but the first thing definitely was.
“Yellow darling? My angel of justice?”
“I’m not an aynjil of justice no more, Blue. I’m a criminell. Come to think of it, so are you. This is bad, Blue. The both of us are criminells!”
“You’ll never be a criminal to me, Yellow. Take a deep breath. Do you remember why we fell?”
“Uh… no. Do you?”
“I’m afraid not. I remember the feeling of falling, but that’s it, I'm afraid.”
“Me too… and then next thing i knew, i was a-wakin’ up here!”
“Indeed, my dahlia. It seems we have a full life on earth ahead of us. Have we not always wanted to experience life as humans?”
“But Blue… we betrayed Flowery! We should suffer! Our time on earth is a punishment, not a reward! If we like it here, it’s not a real punishment!”
Usually Blue would try to get Yellow to drop the idea of punishing himself, but falling from heaven is a lot for an angel, especially one as guilt prone as Yellow. Blue didn’t think he’d be able to convince Yellow to forgive himself just yet. In time, Blue would work harder. But it would be a long and slow process, and first they needed their basic needs met.
“Can we compromise and experience good things, too? Besides, we barely know anything about earth, darling. Who knows how punishment works here? I think before anyone gets punished, we need to have a look around, maybe get some food and definitely some rest. It’s the middle of the night.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot! Humans need to catch their winks at night! Don’t they need something to fill their bellies as well?” as if to emphasize Yellow’s question, Blue’s stomach growled.
“I believe you’re right, my butterfly. It seems our Flowery dollars have turned into human currency, so let’s book a hotel for tonight. It might not be the most comfortable, but until we can find jobs, it’s necessary.”
“Sounds good to me! What about that conveniently low-cayted inn over there?”
“That will probably suffice. Let’s go see if they have an opening.”
Luckily, they did have an opening, so the two were able to sleep there that night. Soon they would worry about getting jobs, but for now, they rested. Yellow hooked an arm around Blue, who was sleeping on his side. The two of them would definitely wake up sore from the inn’s lumpy bed tomorrow, but tonight nothing mattered except that they were together.
