“Remember when you first confessed? You were so cute. Who says no after getting rejected?” Hirano said, the moonlight peeking from the curtains revealed the tug on the corner of his mouth.
Within the dark, Hirano’s features could scarcely be made out. His arm snaked around Kagiura’s waist, holding him close beneath the blanket. Even though it was a double bed with two pillows, the two of them were cuddled so closely that they only really needed one.
“Taiga-saaaaan! You promised not to bring that up anymore!” Kagiura whined, hiding his face in Hirano’s chest but it didn’t deter him from laughing at his reaction anyway. Kagiura couldn’t see but his ears were working perfectly fine. And not to mention the low rumbling that vibrated from Hirano.
“…But I’m glad you said no.” Hirano sighed in content, rubbing Kagiura’s back soothingly. “Otherwise I would’ve never known I liked you too.”
“You were always so oblivious. Even in university you never changed. I’m telling you, that guy in your physics class definitely had his eyes on you.” Kagiura pouted, knowing he was being petulant but couldn’t find it in him to care.
Hirano rolled his eyes at that. Kagiura couldn’t see anything but he sensed it. “We were just classmates. Everyone was feeling a bit homesick and needed someone to lean on. That was all there was to it, Akira.”
“You always say that!” Kagiura looked up, brows furrowed and said in the needy voice that he knew would make Hirano fold to his whims every time. “Even back in high school, you thought I loved you as a senpai. I had to lay everything out clear for you.”
“Okay, but who am I marrying tomorrow? You, or him?” Hirano asked, a hand ghosting over the ring finger on Kagiura’s left hand. His left ring finger which was not empty.
“…Me.” Kagiura said after a few moments of silence.
“Exactly, you big baby.” Hirano pinched Kagiura’s cheek and pulled gently, careful not to hurt his fiancee and very soon to be husband. “It was always going to be you.”
“Aaah Taiga-san,” Kagiura complained, resting a hand on Hirano’s but made no effort to push him away despite the verbal protest.
After Hirano let go, Kagiura rubbed his face to soothe the skin and spoke up again. “I can’t wait for tomorrow.”
“It’s going to be absolutely exhausting.” Hirano replied, leaving a quick kiss on the top of Kagiura’s head. His hair tickling his nose a bit.
“Don’t care. I’m too happy to care. Kagiura nuzzled into Hirano’s neck and said, albeit a bit muffled, “this is all I ever dreamed of when I was in high school.”
“You were supposed to be focused on your studies.” Hirano was suddenly glad that they were in the dark so that the younger couldn’t see the blush that creeped up his face and undoubtedly spread to his ears. “Not me.”
Kagiura still remembered the day they met, when for the most brief moment, he thought they weren’t going to get along.
Those azure blue eyes that pierced through him, sharp and unforgiving at first. Even though the colour did not change even one bit over the years, they became kind and tender in a way that made Kagiura melt.
The corners of Hirano’s mouth lifted in the most adorable way whenever he smiled and Kagiura had never seen it on anyone else before. He knew that very moment that this was the man he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Someone he could laugh with and joke around with until they grew old.
“You were just too distracting, Taiga-san. It was all your fault.” Kagiura mumbled, hardly containing the strange but welcome feeling in his stomach.
“I didn’t do anything!”
Kagiura squeezed Hirano a bit tighter and tangled their legs together even more. “You were all sweet and kind. It made our room feel so domestic.”
“I was being a good senpai. Anyone else would’ve done the same.”
“No one else would’ve chosen to wake up inhumanly early for no reason other than to wake me up, Taiga-san.” Kagiura retorted. “And everyone knows you’re not a morning person.”
His argument seemed to work because Hirano said nothing in return. The older’s whole body froze, as if trying to think of a counter and yet to no avail.
“You’re too nice. You spoiled me.” Kagiura said, his eyelids starting to feel heavier, threatening to fall.
“I guess I did.” Hirano absentmindedly whispered as an answer.
Eventually, they wore each other out enough and the warmth and safety of the bed pulled them into slumber. Even while asleep, Kagiura kept a faint smile on his lips. Knowing that tomorrow, when he’s back in this bed, he’ll be married. To the man of his dreams. His life just couldn’t get any better.
