Summary
Ilya asks himself how he learned to look at the stars. Someone has been there to turn them into something he can hold: Alexei when they were children, hands flying around and talking loudly enough to earn a deadly glare from the librarian as he flipped the pages; and now Shane, voice barely above a whisper, sitting with Ilya's back pressed against his chest, taking Ilya's hand in his to point up at the constellations. Ilya learned how to hold the stars. He can do it again. He knows, rationally, that Shane is finite, and he plans to prove it to himself.
Ilya is completely overwhelmed by Shane's freckles. He decides the best solution to this is to carefully count each individual one.
