Work Text:
Yellow was always different.
Whether that was because he liked cowboy and dressed up as them all the time, or it was the intense need to make sure justice is met, or the fact that he never really had friends.
Or maybe that he was born a woman.
He was always different. And god did he wish he wasn’t . A cow’s tail, a cow’s horns, a cow’s ears. He wasn’t a bull. He wishes he was. But he wasn’t.
Blue saw him as one. A man. A bull. Someone like him. So close to being like him yet so far. Because he was always different.
Later in his teenage years Yellow got a septum ring. Bulls have those! He’s a bull! Everyone told him how much he looked like one, but did he really? Or were they just nice? Yellow wishes he was born one. But he wasn’t.
Oh how he wishes he could’ve grown up a bull. Roughhousing, doing sports, getting dirty. Oh how he wishes he could’ve grown up a boy. Allowed to not be girly without being looked at like he was an anomaly, allowed to like cowboys without being told he should like princesses.
Blue was like him, well not really but kinda! Always reprimanded for what he liked based on his gender! He always looked so pretty in those dresses, dancing on a stage. Yellow still remembers how they met.
Blue was being bullied for wearing a dress to school such an idiotic reason frankly and Yellow came over, they were both still kids so small Yellow still had his baby teeth. He got into a fight with Blue’s bullies wearing his bandana around his neck dressed up as a cowboy he fought until he couldn’t which frankly wasn’t long he didn’t really know how to fight yet. Got his 2 front teeth knocked out just for Blue. Had a lisp for a week Blue still remembers loving.
Yellow wishes he was as confident in his body as Blue. Blue is gorgeous, kind, and so elegant oh how Yellow loves him. He wishes Blue had everything he desired. And yet Blue desires him. So idiotic frankly. After all Blue is gay! And Yellow? Well is he really truly a man? Looking in the mirror he asks himself that each day. Is he really? Or is he just pretending?
Blue could have anyone. Yellow doesn’t deserve him. Blue’s a butterfly elegant, beautiful, gorgeous. And Yellow’s a cow with a septum. Not even a bull. Why does someone as perfect as Blue love him?
He isn’t a bull. He says he’s a man but he isn’t a bull. No matter what he does in the mirror he’ll always see a cow. How he wishes that could change one day as if a magic spell cast his body changed to be who he always wanted to be.
But a cow with a septum is still not a bull. And what he sees in a mirror is not a real man.
Even if everyone else knows he is one.
Even if everyone else sees him as one.
Even if even strangers can tell he is one.
To him? He’ll always be just a cow with a septum.
