Six days

Summary:

A theory about a verse.

Notes:

A man told me—quoting this verse—that we women are supposed to be servants to them, the “manly” men. In all caps. Because it was obviously important. So I needed to get that out of my head.

To explain that, I recently heard a theory that God is hermaphroditic and/or non-binary. The punchline was suggested to me by the person I had an amazing discussion with right after that.

Work Text:

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

At this point, they start to wonder, because a being like themselves would pose a problem. So they split it in two.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

There—no problem anymore. They make sure to create them to complement each other. Equal, above all. That’s important since they take their first breath at the same time, born from the same earth. They’re just different enough for humanity to reproduce now. They look at them with pride.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

They even take the time to name them both, to give each one importance. The man will be Adam. The woman will be Lilith. Both of them are beautiful, strong, and sturdy, and they feel their heart swell with joy. They are perfect. Both of them.

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Long afterward, they still wonder what Adam thought. They had, after all, made it very clear that "you" were for Lilith and Adam.

And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

And it was so—meaning they made the decision not to go back on their word. Even when Lilith fled the earth they had created for them. They accepted her as she is, as she will be, because she came into the world that way and they would not remake her. They watched her leave and chose to bring a second daughter into the world—a second wife for Adam. Adam was satisfied with this Eve, who turned out to be too gentle to stand up to him, and came to see her behavior as the norm.

Looking back, they tell themselves that they surely should have done the same with Adam as well. Eve would have deserved a better man. Humanity would have been all the better for it.

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Six days. Six days, and the first part of *The Sims* in the world begins to go off the rails.
