Aigis stands on the rooftop of Gekkoukan High School as the cherry blossoms flow through the wind. Today is her graduation day from the school, and a new page in her life begins tomorrow. It saddens Aigis that her third year of high school is ending as she made so many new memories now that she didn’t need to focus on the Dark Hour. The blonde gynoid raises her hand as she “feels” the springtime breeze run through her fingers. Yet despite her sadness, Aigis will forever cherish her school memories. Not only that, she’s very eager to learn where her life goes next.
“So this is where you’ve been. It's almost time for the ceremony.” A familiar voice playfully calls out to her. Aigis turns around to see her boyfriend Makoto standing at the rooftop’s entrance with his cane in his hand. Makoto waves a smile at the blonde gynoid as he makes his way towards her, keeping himself steady with his cane. Even after Makoto’s body was severely weakened after using the Great Seal on Nyx, the Wild Card user still found ways to enjoy his life. He isn’t going to allow the seal’s drawbacks to dictate his life.
“My apologies, Makoto-san. I must’ve lost track of time. Because of me, you had to strain yourself climbing to the rooftop.” Aigis worries as she rushes towards Makoto. Despite Makoto’s constant reassurances that he’s fine, Aigis could never stop being concerned over her boyfriend’s condition. Even though Makoto doesn’t like to admit it, he has a tendency of pushing himself too hard.
“It’s just a couple flights of stairs.” Makoto deflects nonchalantly, but Aigis shoots him a scolding look that causes the blue-haired teen to shudder and look down ashamed. She can tell when her boyfriend’s lying and from her close observation, the blonde gynoid can easily see him breathing heavily most likely from having to navigate the school and climbing several flights of stairs. “Sorry. It looks like I was the one who made you worried.”
“I almost lost you, Makoto-san. That’s why I’m worried about the state of your body. I’m scared of losing you one day.” Aigis explains as she lifts Makoto’s head up and kisses him on the cheek. “I love you, Makoto-san.”
“I love you too, Aigis. And you’re right. Sometimes I push myself without even realizing it, and I need to be more careful. It’s just been frustrating having to adjust to this kind of life now.” Makoto admits as he gestures towards his cane. Even since his body became weak, Makoto had to endure several limitations during his third year. For one thing, he had no choice but to quit the track and field club since he can’t even walk without any kind of aid, hence the cane in his hands. It also meant that he couldn't climb long flights of stairs without needing to stop and rest. Furthermore, Makoto’s body can’t handle extreme temperatures, and he can get sick more easily. Lastly, because of how weakened his body has become, his body needs more hours of sleep. “I just feel useless sometimes.”
There’s been a few times when Makoto would confide to Aigis about his frustrations over the state of his body. These were the times Aigis would see Makoto at his most vulnerable, and she would always stay with him to listen and provide comfort. She understands her boyfriend’s frustrations as she had once been in a similar position after she almost died fighting Ryoji in the previous year. Aigis gently holds Makoto’s face and stares into his eyes.
“You’re not useless, Makoto-san. You’re an amazing human being who changed people’s lives for the better. I’ve met several people who would always tell me about how you made a positive impact on their lives because you helped them. You changed my life for the better. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have learned what it means to live. Because of your help, I was able to discover my true feelings for you. And not only that, but you saved humanity from the Fall. I know your body isn’t what it used to be, but you don’t have to endure it alone. You have your friends, and you have me. I promise I will always stay by your side forever.” Aigis vows and pulls Makoto in for a kiss. Makoto embraces Aigis with a hug as he kisses her back.
“Thank you, Aigis. You always find a way to make me feel better. And don’t worry, I promise you won’t lose me. In fact, it’ll be pretty hard for you to get rid of me.” Makoto reassures with a sly smile on his face, confusing the blonde gynoid.
“What do you mean?” Aigis asks as she curiously looks at her boyfriend. Taking a step back from Aigis, Makoto pulls out a small black box from underneath his graduation robe and slowly gets down to one knee, setting his case aside. Aigis’ eyes widen as she realizes what’s happening, and Makoto opens the black box to reveal a blue diamond ring.
“Aigis, now that we’re graduating, I’ve realized I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you please do me the honors and be my wife?” Makoto proposes, and Aigis covers her mouth in shock while her eyes start watering. Unable to stop herself from crying, Aigis falls to her knees and hugs Makoto tightly.
“I do, Makoto-san! I will marry you!” Aigis weeps with joy while Makoto pats his now fiancée on the back as he tries not to cry himself. Their embrace lasts for a couple of minutes as the couple lets out their emotions. After shedding her tears, Aigis wipes her eyes clean and gives Makoto another loving kiss which the blue-haired teen readily accepts. Aigis then helps Makoto stand back up and hands him his cane.
“Here, let me put this on you.” Makoto requests as he takes one of Aigis’ hands and places the engagement ring on her ring finger. Aigis examines the ring on her finger and stares at it in awe.
“It looks so beautiful, Makoto-san.” Aigis praises as she continues to admire the ring. “Did it cost that much?”
“For a regular person, they’ll be lucky to have money that amounts to a fraction of its cost. Thankfully, purchasing the ring was no problem for me thanks to my Tartarus funds, and I still have a ton left over.” Makoto couldn’t help but brag, causing Aigis to giggle.
“I love it, Makoto-san. Thank you for making me the happiest girl in the world. I can’t wait to share this news with our friends.” Aigis beams with a cheery grin.
“Speaking of our friends, they’re probably wondering where we are. I told them I was gonna come get you, but I guess we both got sidetracked.” Makoto chuckles as he sheepishly rubs the back of his head. “If we leave now, we might be able to make it to the auditorium before they start announcing our names.”
“Affirmative. However, if we’re to arrive in time, then I’ll have to carry you the whole way through.” Aigis declares, and Makoto nods in agreement as he finds no fault in her logic. Admittedly, he did overdo it climbing those stairs in a hurry. In a swift motion, Aigis picks Makoto up and carries him in her arms bridal-style.
“By the way, Aigis. What were you doing here on the rooftop anyway?” Makoto inquires as he hugs his arms around the back of his fiancée's neck.
“I wanted to take one last look at the rooftop before I graduate. I’m going to miss Gekkoukan High, but the rooftop holds the memories most dearest to me. Now that one more special memory was added to it, I’m more than ready to move on to the next stage of my life. Or rather, the next stage of our lives.” Aigis states, causing Makoto to smile dearly as he too shares the same sentiment.”
“Me too, Aigis.” Makoto says as Aigis carries him back into the school with graduation as their next destination. With the Dark Hour gone, the world safe from Nyx, and their high school years now over, Makoto and Aigis are ready to take the next step in their lives. Even with Makoto’s body now weakened, the couple will continue to move forward with their heads held high. Makoto and Aigis will stay at each other’s side, offering love and support towards one another.
