"Oh! There you are!" I said. Me and Sumire had been looking around for Hanako-kun for a while.
When we found him he look almost lifeless.
No pun intended or anything, I guess he is already dead...haha...you get what I mean though right?
"We have to find number 6 and save Aoi! Is something wrong?"
"Oh I was just thinking it won't be long now." he replied.
"Won't be long?"
ding
"The school bell? Why now...? It’s so late at night. Hey, Hanako-kun, I think somethings happening?"
"It's the severance."
His face was...cracking?
The severance?...
"Hanako-kun, whats wrong with your body...? I-is it breaking apart..?"
"Now that a girl has been offered up as a sacrifice, the human world and the supernatural world will be split clean in two." he explained.
He said it so calmly. How?
What does he mean...
"Huh...? What do you mean...?"
He grabbed me by the waist and pulled me into a hug,
Don't tell me...
"We supernaturals...are going to disappear from this world."
He tried to make me forget everything we'd ever done together.
"You'll forget about me, Aoi-chan and be able to live happily ever after"
Ao-chan? What does she have to do with anything?
"What did you try to do to me...? What do you mean I'll forget? And why would I forget Aoi too?"
He stayed silent. Not a word.
He's always trying to decide things and not talk to the people he's making decisions for! He really pisses me off.
"I granted your wish, Yashiro"
"My wish...?"
"You said you wanted to live in the real world longer."
"You mean I'm going to live longer?"
"Yup, doesn't that make you happy?" He smiled.
"No it does...but are you sure? That really came out of a left field."
I was not ready for what he was about to say.
"Because Aoi-chan died instead."
Was he fucking joking? And he smiled when he said it too. I knew he was a murderer but thats gone too far.
"Tell me it’s not true. Thats not what i wanted."
"I like you better than Aoi-Chan! I'm sorry but it'll be ok. I'm going to disappear soon too. And it might take a while but you'll forget us someday."
I reached out my arm to grab his chest, as another piece of his body cracked.
"Don't go...Hanako-kun...!"
I rethought all my memories with him and Kou.
For less than a year i'd worked as assistant to Hanako-kun, the seventh of Kamome Academies school wonders. But being his assistant was different than what I thought it would be like. Being an assistant to a supernatural is different, but I was more than an assistant. I was his friend.
"I wish I could've lived a real life with you too, Yashiro"
And he hugged me as he fell to triangular pieces.
That was the last time I saw Hanako-san of the toilet.
Now it’s the summer holidays.
I had planned to spend my time doing stuff with Aoi. Hanako is stupid. He's a jerk. And I'd always knew that. So why'd I trust him? I can't even explain why.
There was something about Hanako though.
For a while, I had loved him. And I still do.
Even if he sacrificed my best friend to the after life.
Even if he was a supernatural.
Even though he's gone now.
I could never bring myself to tell him; deep down maybe he liked me back. But at the end of the day he's just an apparition and he's still a jerk.
But now I've missed my chance. There's no way to tell him now.
So I wonder other things. Like how Akane-kun is holding up without Ao-chan.
Ding
My phone? I picked it up to see a message from...Akane?
Hello this is Akane Aoi's mum.
My heart skipped a beat for a second.
What if...?
Im sending this message to let you know Akane Aoi is no longer with us anymore.
No.
I could feel tears forming in my eyes.
He passed away last night due to suicide. I don't know if you two where good friends or anything but I'm letting everyone in his contacts know.
Suicide? Was this because he couldn't save Aoi?
I didn't know what to do. My hands where shaking.
No I wasn't close to Akane-kun at all. Well not necessarily. He did attempt to kiss me in an elevator a few days ago? To try to get Hanako to help...Hanako.
I met up with the Minamoto's a few days later. The same thing still swarmed my head and had been ever since the severance. I needed to talk to Kou.
Teru was surprisingly quite upset over Akane's death. After all they were sworn enemies if anything. But times change and maybe they started getting along, but i decided to not bring it up and instead made my way to Kou.
"Hey, how are you holding up?" Kou asked.
He looked like he hadn't slept in days. His eyes were swollen from tears, and his voice cracked every once in a while.
"I'm doing ok.." I replied. I wasn't but I didn't want to put any pressure on him since he didn't exactly look like he was holding up. "I suppose Mitsuba is probably gone too?"
It was a mistake asking that. It kinda slipped out. Kou's eyes swelled with tears.
"Yeah... I need to confess something, Nene-san."
He didn't even call me Senpai anymore. Something was clearly up.
"I...Uh...I liked Mitsuba...Like in a 'more than friends' way."
That was something I thought I'd never hear Kou say.
Kou Minamoto, gay? Never in a million years. If you'd asked me if he was gay before this moment in time I would have not had to think for a second, I would instantly say "No way!"
But I'm totally supportive of this!
I moved closer toward Kou and hugged him.
"Thats amazing." I told him.
That was it. We broke. We cried for a good 10 minutes straight. It felt good.
For less than a year I'd been an assistant to an apparition.
For less than a year I'd been his friend.
"And it might take a while but you'll forget us someday"
Thats what Hanako-kun had told me that night.
I don't know when 'someday' is, but for all I know,
I will never forget the seventh of Kamome Academies seven wonders
'Hanako-san of the bathroom.'
Until The Day Death Comes.
(and maybe it will take me back to him?)
