Chapter Text
Prologue
Every year when summer arrived, the stress and worries of regular life started melting away. Summer was different from regular life. Summer meant carefree days with dripping ice cream from Marcella’s. Nostalgic afternoons that tasted of salt and sunscreen. Late evenings lying in the meadow grass. Flickering lightning bugs that glowed brighter than the stars themselves. And most importantly, the promise of something special. Summer was always special.
And it was even more special in Waynesville. Ever since Tyler was three, he and his mom had been visiting the coastal town in Florida. They’d stay with his grandma, a welcome change from the gross Georgia town they normally inhabited.
Every time he went back, rolling down Grandma’s long winding driveway, always greeted by that beautiful white house at the end, Tyler knew he was home.
But of course, it wasn’t summer without Scotty.
Oh, Scotty.
