I'm gonna kill him!
Rocky honestly can't remember that last time he was so fucking angry. He feels like his blood might actually be boiling in his veins. It's so alien because he doesn't get angry like this, like he might blow his top and say things he can't take back. He laughs things off and jokes, he makes light of things.
"Why the fuck didn't he use his Zeonizer!?" Rocky bursts out as he follows the poor guide leading him through the ICU wing of the Ranger Support and Recovery Center.
"Please, be respectful of the other patients," the guide admonishes. She's one of the cute little bi-pedal mini deer creatures that staffs the RSRC so he can't even bring himself to snap at her.
They finally stop at a door that she quickly opens. Rocky steps inside.
The rage abruptly drains from him as if someone just pulled a plug.
There is absolutely no reason on any plane of existence that Adam should look that pale. Or be hooked up to this many machines. He looks frail of all things, which isn't something Rocky ever thought he'd say about his boyfriend.
"Adam's state is very fragile right now, Rocky."
The soft voice is a surprise, but Hala's presence isn't. She's been a frequent volunteer since her time as a Ranger. He's bumped into her a couple of times during his appointments with Dr. Voxian.
Rocky swallows hard and sinks into one of the chairs beside Adam's bed. "How close was it?"
"Close," she admits, grabbing his chart to take notes. "Morphing with that coin…he was near death when the Astros got him through the door. If Master Black hadn't already pre-warned us to be ready…"
…he'd be dead.
The thought is like a spear of sorrow striaght to his heart and Rocky takes Adam's limp, cold—too cold—hand in his. He squeezes just the slightest bit, hopeful maybe that his presence alone will reach his boyfriend, but there's no reaction except the steady beep of the machines keeping him alive.
"He's a ranger, Rocky. He's done the hard part by surviving," Hala says as she makes some marks. "The Power will heal him, it just might take some time."
"Yeah," Rocky sighs, "he's a stubborn son-of-a-bitch too."
"Isn't that just part of being a ranger?"
"Some of us more than others."
"Fair," Hala allows with a smile. "Anyway, just press that button if you need anything."
"Thanks, Hala."
She puts Adam's chart back in place and leaves the room. Rocky brings Adam's hand up to kiss his knuckles with all the love and comfort he can possibly pour into that one action. Then, he settles back to do the only thing he can do.
Wait.
