Work Text:
Jamie has been on maternity leave since he hit his four-month mark. The couple made the decision to go on leave early since they didn’t wanna risk a fall that could cause their unborn child harm. The omega spends his free time hanging out in Keeley’s office or in Rebecca’s office. At the start, he would still go to Nelson Road and hang out on the sidelines or in the stands. He found it entertaining watching the team practice and get yelled at by Roy. It was also helpful to keep up to date on new match plans. Now, he hangs out at home watching telly and eating whatever he’s craving. He’s at his eight-month mark, so can you blame him for not wanting to go out.
His mother and Simon were down in London since his due date was approaching. They were staying in Jamie’s old place for the time and would stay for the month after their daughter was born.
His mum suggested they go out to eat at Jamie’s favorite restaurant, so he begrudgingly got dressed in something other than sweatpants and a robe. He wore denim trousers where waist line sits perfectly under his bump. One of Roy’s black shirts that didn’t fully cover his bump and a denim jacket over it. He hates to admit it, but it did feel nice to get dressed up after a long time. He doesn’t know how long that’s gonna last, though.
Simon drove while Georgie and Jamie talked about whatever gossip they had. After some time, Jamie looked out the window and noticed they were nowhere near the restaurant.
“Um, where we goin?” Jamie asked.
“Oh, we’re gonna pick up Roy to join us,” Georgie told him.
Jamie didn’t believe his mum, but he wasn’t gonna say anything. It didn’t make sense to pick up Roy at work when it’s further from the restaurant. Plus, Roy can drive, so there was no reason to get him.
They get to the stadium, and Jamie is even more confused when mum and Simon start to get out of the car. He guesses they’re going in, which again made no sense. He followed them into the building and to the locker room.
“SURPRISE!!!!”
Jamie jumped from the loud noise and took in his surroundings,
The locker room was decked out in purple and pink streamers and balloons. The whole team was dressed in their usual attire, but had purple party hats on top of their heads. He looked at the banner that was handmade, reading, “Welcome Baby Kent.”
“What’s this?” He asked even though the answer was obvious.
“I told you I was gonna throw you the best baby shower,” Keeley spoke up.
Jamie smiled and went to hug her the best she could with his bump in the way. “Thank you. I wasn’t expecting all this”
The team crowded around him to congratulate him, and each of them politely asked if they can touch his bump. He looked at Roy, who stood to the side with a party hat on his head. He was sure it was Ruth and Phoebe who convinced him to wear it.
He waddles his way over to his husband and into his arms. “Did you know about all this?”
“Yeah. Do you like it?”
Jamie grins. “I love it”
They play a game of guessing the size of his bump with a string, and Collin won. They did another game of not saying the word baby or someone puts a clothespin on their shirt if they do. This meant Dani’s and Ted’s shirts were covered in clothespins, while Issac had none. This caused an argument within the team for crowning their captain the winner when the man rarely talks.
They cut the cake so everyone had a slice before Jamie and Roy started to open gifts. Most of them gave clothes or toys. Roy told them they didn’t need any furniture since they already have the nursery made up. Ted gifted them books and pacifiers. Beard gave them baby bottles and a blanket he crocheted. No one knew the man had that skill. Dani gave them a newborn-size kit that had Kent 3 on the back. He also included a small soccer ball, saying his mom started training him when he came out of the womb.
Jamie was about to open Will’s gift when he froze. Everyone froze. The sound of liquid hitting the floor was loud.
Jamie and Roy looked down to see a puddle under Jamie’s feet. Roy looked at him, not asking out loud if he had an accident.
“My waterbroke” he announced.
The room turned chaotic. Georgie, Ruth, and Roy were trying to keep Jamie calm since they could tell he was about to panic. Will ran over with a pair of shorts, socks, and shoes for Jamie to change into. The team was questioning how it’s early, while others were arguing over who won the bet they made on when Jamie would go into labor.
Jamie doesn’t remember much of anything. He knows Roy helped him change before they drove to the hospital. Roy was the only one in his room when he went into labor. It was fast, surprisingly. Jamie had heard so many horror stories of how long omegas went into labor.
They welcomed a healthy, loud-crying baby girl. She had a head of dark hair, looked angry to be in the world, just like her father.
Roy couldn’t pair to leave his omega and child’s side, so he simply sent a text to Keeley with a picture of Jamie and their daughter.
Keeley pulled out her phone when she got the notification.
“She was born!!” She shouted while holding up her phone.
Everyone crowded around her to look at the picture. Everyone awed and commented about how adorable she looked.
The nurse walked in and put the blank birth certificate on the table.
“Going to leave this here for you to fill out. No rush at all,” She smiled before walking out, leaving the new parents in peace.
Jamie was staring down at their sleeping daughter and rubbing his finger against her soft pink cheek. Roy looked at the paper before looking at his family.
“Do you still wanna do the name we talked about?”
Jamie looked at him with a soft smile. “Yeah. It’s the perfect name for her.”
Roy couldn’t help but agree. It’s the perfect name for their perfect girl. Charlotte Willa Kent will be loved and cherished not only by her family, but the entire Richmond team who were in the waiting room.
