Kent didn’t say much. In fact, he didn’t say anything at all. They rode on in silence except for the occasional screech from the hawk who hovered overhead. Jamie had seen plenty of hawks–they were his favorite thing to eat–but he had never seen one that looked like Kent’s bird. She was bigger, and her feathers had more of a coppery-gold coloring. She was a beautiful animal, just like Goliath was a beautiful horse, well cared for. Kent clearly didn’t need help taking care of his stock, but no matter how Jamie considered the problem, he couldn’t figure out what Kent actually wanted from him.
