FRUIT PUNCH AND SPIT
It was a crisp cool day at Windyville high, hallways buzzing with voices, the bell for first period rang and the students of windy high all scattered into their classes. The halls emptied and the voices lowered and died down; it wasn't long until the Hall was filled with a comfortable silence.
Spencer, a tall, stocky boy with thick fluffy hair that's pushed into a fringe with sharp blue eyes and paler skin, came into band class.. The class is filled with lower spoken conversations & around 15-20 people max. He's holding his drum sticks, as well his drum kit stays at the school during the school year.
The softer energetic boy's eyes scan the room before zeroing out on a boy more off to the side.. Jon Walker. Jon's a bit shorter, more quiet & closed off.. Terrible at conversation. But Spencer doesn't mind, he strides over to him grabbing one of the folded metal chairs and sitting down in front of Jon.
His legs spread around the back of it, his forearms resting on the top of the chair as he places his chin on the back of his hands.. He looked at Jon, his soft blue eyes waiting for him to notice his presence.
Jon's eyes pulled away from his bass.. His deep brown eyes meet Spencer's softer blue ones, a contrast to his energetic personality.
“Hey Jon,” he said with a smile, his eyes squeezing shut and his dimples showing. Jon watched the younger boy's face fill with joy, like he actually enjoyed his presence.. Jon didn't like people, and practically the whole school knew that.. He didn't understand why Spencer didn't leave him alone like everyone else .. Buuut… he did have a soft spot for the younger boy even if he didn't wanna admit it.
Spencer went on to talking about yesterday and how he went out with his friend Brendon and shit.. Blah blah blah… Jon didn't really hear all of it.. Well he did. He was just more focused on how animated Spencer was when he talked.. He seemed so alive and kicking.
He went on and on about how his day was and what happened.. Spencer didn't care if Jon actually listened.. No one really listens to his ramblings anyway but it was nice to have someone not interrupt him.
“Brown looks good on you. It brings out ur eyes..” Jon's voice was a mumble. Not much higher than a whisper, the softer boy stopped dead in his tracks… he sucked in a soft breath “whatcha' say?”... “You look nice.” the words didn't feel real.. Not because Spencer DIDN'T think he looked nice, he had spent hours picking clothes out of course he believed he looked nice.. It was the fact Jon spoke to him.
… “thanks..” The quiet boy nodded and the second period bell rang, Jon put his bass away and the class soon emptied out..
Spencer jogged down the hallway to catch up to Jon, he swallowed before speaking “hey Jon.. Do you maybe wanna go do something after school? I heard there's like a rave soon..” … Jon just nodded.. Like usual. “Uhhh.. Cool! Cool cool..” .. “Ill see you there then!”
—
After school Jon made his way over to Spencer's house, he's in a light blue shirt with a black zip up with white stitching and slightly oversized blue jeans. His hoods pulled over his hair as he didn't feel like styling it like normal.
Jon knocked once.
Spencer made his way downstairs, he's in a hot pink tee shirt, grey skinny jeans and chunky sneakers. A couple belts, not much for a rave.. Casual affair.
He pulled the door open trying not to seem too excited, his arm reached up grabbing the keys off the wall.. Spencer's cheeks flushed a light pink as he looked down at the shorter boy, a smile cracked at his lips before his eyes squeezed shut
“You came!” Spencer said with a smile dripping from his voice, Jon didn't need sight to know Spencer was grinning like a little shit. Jon shrugged it off, turning around, his hand grasping Spencer's hand with his pinky. Their pinkies interlocked as Jon walked to the car.
Spencer was driving them in his mom’s small silver Toyota .. Nothing much, leather interior, the exterior a grey color. It was about a 15 minute drive, they sat in silence, saving the party for the rave or something..
Once at the party Jon's eyes found Spencer's in the car as Spencer gathered his own stuff, phone, wallet.. ect.. Spencer's ocean eyes stared confused back into the warm leather brown, he looked.. Serious? But why? Jon didn't spe- “you sure you're gonna be okay?” Jon’s words interrupted his thought speak? he spoke. And he spoke to him??
Spencer's brows furrowed slightly tilting his head, his lips parted, tongue darting out to wet the suddenly dry lips he holds.. He squints his eyes slightly, his nose scrunching.
“eh.. what?” His voice seemed lost, more as he paid attention to the tone than the words. Jon cleared his throat “I asked if you're gonna be okay?” Spencer's eyes darted around the car before shrugging it off “yeah ill be okay?” Jon noticed that he sounded unsure, but he didn’t seem to comment on it
During the rave, everything was loud.. Spencer was taking advantage of the unguarded alcohol about 6 shots deep & half a beer down.. The room seemed so loud, and spun.. He stumbled toward Jon falling into his arms, legs shaking softly..
Jon caught him under his armpits, dragging him off to a quieter corner, the rave was in full swing on the main area. You'd think it was a my chem concert, once in the corner he could feel Spencer lost and caught in every one else's eye.. Jon steadied him leaning him against the corner sitting on his knees in front of Spencer..
“Hey.. Hey Spencer I need ya to look at me.. Can you do that?” Spencer's eyes didn't focus.. His lips parted with a whine. tears steadily streamed down his cheeks softly as he took heavy breaths. His chest raised and fell rapidly due to the panic from the alcohol setting in..
“Spencer, give me 5 things you can see.” This was probably the most Spencer heard him talk.. His voice came out in mumbles as Jon nodded to his answers, 5 things he could see, 4 things he could feel.. So on and so forth. Jon's perched on his knees rubbing his thumb over Spencer's knee..
The booming rave music in the back pounded harshly against Spencer's head causing him to groan out loud.. He shifted.. “Spence.. Hey— hey bunny..” “hmm..” the hum was soft, breathy. “One thing you can taste. Bunny please” the words fell from his lips so easily.. Like this is what he's meant to do..
Spencer shuttered softly before shifting forward, his body shook with anxiety. “One thing I can taste..” “Mhmm.. Can you do that bunny?” “I-” the words fell from Jon's mouth like a water fall.. Spencer's lips pressed softly against Jon's as he tried to speak again..
Their lips danced, soft.. Jon tasted of fruit punch and party favors.. Spencer tasted of cheap alcohol and vodka.. The boys' lips crashed together.. They didn't care that it was “wrong” or who was watching..
Spencer's lips part from Jon's , pressing his forehead against Jon's. His eyes were heavy and half lidded. “Fruit punch.. And spit..” Jon's eyes are fluttered closed.. He didn't know what to do with himself; he just kissed his best friend.
Jon swallows softly, he doesn't know what to say.. He never really did anyway. His eyes darted around Spencer's paler face, it was slightly flushed green from the alcohol he had..
“Fruit punch and spit?” He repeated, the words came out in a soft whisper.. Like it was meant for others ears.. Let alone anyone at this stupid rave.
“Yeah.. Your lips taste like metal.. Almost.” Spencer's eyes fluttered open, his pupils blown wide from the substances, he didn't know what else to say. “Well, do you like the taste of metal?” Spencer's head spun.. He didn't know what he liked, at the moment he couldn't even tell Jon his favourite color..
“I think it's okay..” Jon nodded softly before pulling away slightly, his brown eyes darted around the rave making sure no one could take photos of the vulnerable moment. “Why don't I get you home, bunny?” Spencer nodded, taking Jobs' hand as he lifted him to his feet.
Once out of the party, the music fading behind them as they walked to Spencer's borrowed car, he reached into Spencer's pocket fishing for the keys. He pulled them out spinning it on his pointer finger before getting Spencer in the passenger and kissing Spencer's temple.
Jon drove Spencer home, leaving the car in the driveway.. He walked Spencer to the door knocking twice. Spencer's mom opened the door with a soft smile “hey dear, what brings you here?” “Just dropping Spencer off, he's a bit tipsy.. Try and get him some salty food and lay him down?” He patted Spencer's back letting him walk into the house “sure can do!” His mom smiled
Jon turned from the door getting ready to leave “Jonathan..” His spine tensed softly under his name being spoken in such a soft, firm tone.. He turned back “Mrs. Smith?” “Thank you for taking care of my boy.” He smiled softly shrugging “no problem ma'am”
