Chapter Text
Three crying children, one spilled juicebox, and a guilty looking Sammy in his hold. Not what Moon wanted to come back online to.
The lights have just settled into nothingness, the daycare theme ebbing away.
He blinks once at Sammy, allowing his memory bank to pull what all has happened in the last 20 minutes he was in rest mode. Watching the feed back quickly, it seems that Sun lost control of snack time.
‘Well it WASN’T my fault he has NO manners!!!’
As if summoning him, Moon is immediately hit with a crackling sensation from his solar headmate as he grumbles. A wave of irritation floods through his code as he shoves back a blanketed ‘calm. breathe. distance.’ to Sun.
‘Sorry. Busy busy day. No time to clean. Daycare is a mess and people keep tripping.’ Sun grumbles, but pulls back a bit so his feelings aren’t so intense.
Moon hums, clicking his faceplate to the left. ‘I’ll handle it.’
The child he’s currently scruffing by the neckline of his shirt is at least attempting to look angry. However, the slight wobble of his lip gives the anger away. “Put me down Mr. Moon!”
“Now, now, Sammy. Why did we think it was a good idea to climb over the table?” Moon chides sternly. “You know very well that we don’t jump over furniture. Furthermore, Jessica and Andrew were trying to have their snack there.”
“There’s stuff in the way! I wanted my juice and I was TIRED of waiting. S’not my fault!” Sammy wiggles in his arms, eyes getting glassy. A tug on Moon’s pant leg from another child, Daisy perhaps, means he needs to wrap this up for now.
The attendant sighs, using his foot to tip a chair back the right way up before plopping Sammy down in it. “Sammy, you will sit here until I return. Do not move from this spot.” Moon’s right hand picks up the juicebox that he had been after, gently handing it to him.
“You may have your juice. But I want you to sit quietly and think about how that made Jessica and Andrew feel. I will be back in a moment.” Moon tilts his head to read Sammy’s expression, before standing back up. The bell on his cap jingles as he turns to the crowd of children behind him.
“Andrew? Jessica? You alright?” Moon says softly, flicking his eyes down to Daisy who gently takes his hand.
Andrew kicks his feet a little and nods, wiping snot across his hand (ew) as he finishes his crying. Seems he had just gotten startled at the sudden movement, but was done with his snack anyway. Moon plucks a paper towel off one of the nearby tables and cleans him up a bit as Jessica speaks. “Yeah Mister Moon. Was just fus-frust-”
‘She got frustrated.’ Sunny offers.
Moon sends a wave of patience towards his counterpart as he begins to walk. ‘Give her a second.’
Jessica screws up her face, stopping to take a deep breath before exhaling, “Frrrustrated.”
“Very well.” He smiles, the little girl beaming with accomplishment. He’s hunched slightly to hold Daisy’s hand as he leads the gaggle of children over to the naptime area.
Each little pair of eyes waits for him when he stops, asking, “Can you little stars do me a favor? Could you all get out the mats? I need to talk to Sammy.”
“Yes Moon!” “Okay Mr. Moony!” “We’re gonna be the best getter outters EVER!” Moon chuckles, allowing the kids to run off to collect their mats.
Daisy, however, stays firmly planted at his side. He clicks his faceplate down to meet her big eyes. She was a quiet child, but her mother always talked enough for both of them at the pickup. Hair always in two little braids, a red ribbon tied at the ends. Apparently after the first week she had come here, she had refused to go anywhere without them. Her mother said it was because she had wanted to match the daycare attendant. Her favorite animatronic. Not the Glamrocks. Him.
Moon was never the favorite.
Daisy tugs on his hand again, reaching a hand to be picked up. With a soft laugh, he pulls her up into the crook of his arm. Daisy knocks her head against his side as he walks. She hums the daycare theme quietly as they make their way over to the chair that Sammy is sitting in.
“So? How are you feeling?” Moon says quietly. He kneels down to the child’s level, adjusting Daisy in his arms.
Sammy sniffles, wrapping his arms around himself. “Sorry.”
Moon nods, waiting for him to continue.
“I just…I was really thirsty. And I won’t do it again, I swear! It just seemed like the fastest way at the time.” Sammy mumbles under his breath, “And the most fun.”
Moon sighs, “I know, starlight. But we can’t be doing these things. You understand why it’s wrong. And it probably wouldn’t have happened if we had had more time to clean the daycare. But I would like you to apologize to the others.” A huff comes from Daisy, bonking her head against the animatronic’s shoulder.
Sammy giggles at the younger’s motion, before slowly nodding. “Okay Moon. I'll apologize.”
He gets to his feet and immediately darts towards the mats, already whisper-yelling his apologies to Andrew and Jessica. Daisy is settled nicely at his hip again as he begins to walk.
‘Thank you.’ Sun thinks tiredly. A quiet thank you thank you thank you warming over Moon.
His shoes hit the edge of a mat, settling Daisy down as he thinks back ‘I’ll clean up for you while they sleep. Now go rest, I can feel how tired you are.’ returning the feeling with always always always.
It doesn’t take long to get the children settled, moondrops to those who need them, and soon enough they’re sleeping.
The quiet is abundant when it’s naptime. Especially when Sun isn’t active to keep him company. He knows the quiet means he’s doing good at his job. He knows. But just once, it would be nice to have someone in here with him. Someone to talk to. Even if a Glamrock came by to say hello once or twice. Though, most of them don’t seem to like them.
Moon tiptoes between rows of cots as he thinks, idly watching the children fall deeper into sleep. Roxy is too self absorbed, Freddy is overly nice but it’s clear he doesn’t know what to say to them, and Monty is…Monty. Chica is the only one that seems to somewhat enjoy their visits on his patrol. She’s also the only one who comes out of her way to say the occasional hello to Sun.

Moon whips his head around sharply at the noise. He’s internally checking the monitors as he hears his quiet whizz of his cable overhead. He flicks through each camera before he sees it, a group of maintenance workers in the theater. They’re coming from the basement, carrying pallets worth of boxes and parts. Why? His cable clicks into the hook on his back, Moon gently getting on his tiptoes and whisking himself upward. Far above the children.
He closes the camera feed’s right as they exit the theater into the upper level of the daycare. To his delight, they look nervous. Nervous means they walk faster. Walking faster means the noise risk goes away quicker. Technicians aren’t often in this area. They’re almost always where a Glamrock could need help. Why pull something from storage?
The Lunar animatronic zips sideways, landing himself quietly on the net. It swings a little with his weight. Moon knows he’s technically not supposed to interact with the netting. But, he’s curious. It’s his daycare after all. Sue him.
“Dammit. I don’t understand why they need all these parts. Aren’t the ones down near P&S fine???” One technician grumbles loudly, before getting smacked on the back of the head.
“Shut up, Moron. It’s naptime. I don’t want that freaky thing coming near me because you’re too loud.” The smacker chides in a hushed whisper. “It’s bad enough they made us come grab random old prototype pieces and junk. But now I have to hear you bitch the whole time!”
Moon twitches, the swearing irritating his filters. The two men must have fallen behind the rest of the group, he thinks, before quietly scuttling towards the net by the railing. Once they round the corner, he shuts his eyelights off and locks his servos. Moon is very glad Sun is asleep. His counterpart hates when he teases staff.
The first wave of the group passes, taking their boxes out. Moon watches quietly, flicking through cameras to make sure the group leaves. Luckily it seems most of what’s in these boxes is toys and prototype parts, still wrapped up in protective casings. It’s quiet. It’s perfect.
Closer…
The men all exit except the two. The technicians creep forward against the railing, scanning ahead towards the door. They look nervous. It must be suspiciously quiet for them, one of them stopping right in front of The Daycare Attendant.
Closer…
The box gets adjusted in his hands, and Moon can almost feel his breath on his face. The Tech leans forward, squinting, “It’s too damn dark…Where is that creepy little shit…”
Gotcha.
“Boo.” Moon flicks his eyelights back on, two red pinpricks staring from the inky darkness at the unsuspecting technician.
“HOLY SH-” The man almost screams, before his partner slams a hand over his mouth. His eyes blown wide with fear.
“Naughty, Naughty. Language. It’s Naptime.” Moon snickers, growling on his last word. “Quiet.”
They all but scramble back, knocking into each other and almost dropping their boxes. Moon launches off of the net as they begin to run, gliding along their path as they exit the daycare. They scramble their way out through the shutter, Moon’s soft laughter echoing as they escape.
Satisfied, he makes his way back over towards the children. He hovers above them, soothing the occasional stirring child. All is well. All is normal.

Moon jolts with the sudden headpiercing network alert that goes through his motherboard. His RAM spikes with the message, feeling Sun stir to come online. It hurts. He shoves Sun away quickly and blocks him out, forcing his counterpart back to rest. Moon jerks, swinging dangerously on his cable for a moment before clumsily maneuvering himself from over the children.
His legs land in a heap on the padded floor, arms clutching a table to stay somewhat upright as the alert clears quickly from his vision. What was that? WHO was that???
Moon breathed in a few times, simulated air moving through him, before standing. What just connected to the network? Nothing had ever been that invasive of a message before except for emergency situations, and none of those hurt with urgency. Whatever was going on, he was going to find out on patrol.
Fazbear Entertainment was planning something.
