Work Text:

It’s not Seokjin’s fault that he loses interests over anyone he likes that likes him back. To be more precise, when his romantic feelings are returned. That’s not to the extent of his powers and definitely not to the extent of his romance. The moment Seokjin finds out that his romantic attraction is reciprocated, he just short-circuits and runs away. All the feelings shut down and he feels repulsed even.

That’s right, he’s lithromantic. They exist. And yes, it’s weird but what is the world without any weirdness and craziness?

Kim Seokjin is gorgeous. Of course, he is. He is drop dead gorgeous. He is loving, someone to rely on and a good friend. A total package. Who can ever resist him? Though it is just disheartening to hear rumors of him being a heartbreaker. A trick. Leading people on and then dumping them down the stream.

It isn’t on purpose though--this heartbreaker thing they accused him of. Seokjin has been a lithro even before he realized he was and knew such word exists. He has suffered his fair share of heartbreak with a mixture of guilt and confusion.

Who would even love to break people’s heart? And as well as have their own heart broken?

In fact, he doesn’t even fall in love easily. He doesn’t fall in love just because of one’s outer appearance. Not only because of one’s aesthetic beauty. Though he’s guilty of liking anyone who looks good but there’s a difference between ‘like’ and ‘love’.

He sighs, watching his roommate across the room who’s frustratingly scribbling something which Seokjin thinks are lyrics. His roommate is another problem. Apparently, his roommate for about a year now also happens to be his soulmate.

They became roommates during the second year in college when his brother Taehyung introduced them with each other saying something like Yoongi—who happens to be Taehyung’s roommate that time—can’t live alone. It was when Taehyung had to leave for America to continue studying art. It was also when he can finally hear something through his left ear, and vice versa to Yoongi. (A very great help to Yoongi whose life is basically music-centered)

The said roommate and soulmate is actually very nice to be with and could be very fun at times. Yoongi is surprisingly very cute too, grumpy cute and Seokjin thinks it’s adorable.

Seokjin also thinks it’s going to be troublesome. He has been romantically in love with Yoongi for months now and he has kept it a secret. That isn’t the problem though. The problem is that Seokjin has noticed that Yoongi has been touchy with him lately. He has noticed that Yoongi has been going out every morning to buy the both of them a cup of coffee and pastry for a week now.

Yoongi? Going out every morning just to buy coffee and a pastry?

That doesn't really sound like Yoongi.

Okay, shit. For real now, though.

What if Yoongi fell for him? What’s he gonna do?

Yoongi has been the best roommate so far for Seokjin and him being his soulmate, he can’t just kick him out. That’s going to be shitty of him, especially knowing that Yoongi actually hates living alone (despite wanting silence, he likes knowing someone is just there)

“Do you have a problem?” Yoongi asks, breaking Seokjin from his chaotic train of thoughts. “You’ve sighed for like, at least thrice every minute. What are you thinking of?”

Seokjin utters a brilliant ‘uh’ in reply, his eyes unfocused.

"Well?" Yoongi probes more, eyebrow raised up for Seokjin and waiting for his reply.

Seokjin clears his throat and smiles nervously. "N-nothing really." He manages to say before dashing off to his room (more like, their room).

;

The next few days, Seokjin distanced himself away from Yoongi which the latter of course noticed as Seokjin isn't as subtle as he thinks he is.

Seokjin thought he'd still be able to get away with it for the sixth day of the week until Yoongi cornered him. Yoongi sneakily waited outside of the bathroom, surprising him.

The latter looks grumpier than usual. More tired than usual. Paler than usual. And skinnier than usual. Seokjin also notices the worn out grey sweatpants he has been wearing for like, god knows how many days.

Yoongi glares up at him, arms folded on his torso, pouting petulantly like a kid. "What the fuck, Kim Seokjin?" He rasps out, voice undoubtedly unused for the past hours with the way it cracks. "Do you have a fucking problem with me? Then say it to my fucking face instead of being a fucking pussy and running away, you little bitch."

Seokjin visibly flinched, quite surprised with Yoongi's tone. He frowns instead of giving an answer. They continued looking at each other, waiting for someone to speak up first.

"What? Don't look at me like that. That won't work on me." Yoongi barks, clearly unamused.

"Huh? How do I look like?"

Yoongi scoffs. "You look like you're putting a spell on me." He says, widening his small eyes for emphasis. "Like you're expecting me to be wrapped around your little finger. No. Your crooked fingers. Well, guess what—"

"What"

"The fuck. Don't interrupt me when I'm talk—"

"Okay."

"-ing." Yoongi pauses, glaring at Seokjin with great annoyance or irritation. Or maybe both. Who the fuck knows? He sighs heavily, rolling his eyes in the process.

"Look, Jinnie." He starts again. "We're roommates and all and, fuck, we're goddamn soulmates! You do know I'll understand it anyhow or no matter what the fuck it is that your problem with me is. Just fucking tell me and not leave me all lonely and confused on whatever the fuck is it that I did wrong."

The previous annoyance is replaced with a grumpy pout. Though softer and cuter. His eyes away from Seokjin's to hide his embarrassment for being such a pouty ass. Much to his effort though to hide the slight blush creeping up his face, Seokjin is gleaming because this is the first time he has seen such reaction from the younger male. The first time seeing Yoongi not in his usually calm and composed, or grumpy and distressed self.

"What are you smiling for now?" Yoongi snarls, furrowing his eyebrows.

Seokjin just shakes his head, his lips still wearing a smile. "Nothing. Just... You know.."

"I don't." The younger deadpans. "Now, now. Let's not get sidetracked and let's get this shit done or else I'll make you sleep in the bathroom, on the cold, cold, and lonely floor." He says, unconsciously tapping his right foot repeatedly on the wooden floor. "Something I know you won't appreciate. At. All."

Seokjin sighs defeatedly. What a situation. He could totally just push Yoongi's frail, pale body out of the way and run away with unicorns or shit. Yoongi's too soft, he thinks, at least probably physically (or he actually just is soft). Yet the shorter guy exudes such a scary presence. He has noticed this since forever, blindly concluding that Yoongi is probably the type to be eerily calm as he watches you slowly die from the poison he mixed in your drink.

He shivers from the recollection of thoughts, sighing again. Now the tricky part is how he'll be explaining to Yoongi his situation without compromising their relationship. Yoongi probably hasn't even heard of the word lithromantic, too busy draining and filling his life with notes and beats and rhymes to rap.

He sighs again, and this time Yoongi can't take it any longer. "You're doing it again. Sighing." Yoongi comments. "Do you know that you unconsciously sigh a lot when you're thinking too much?"

Seokjin feels touched, heart warming up a bit at Yoongi's observation. Quite impressed that despite the other's seemingly dont-give-a-fuck image is a soft, caring, and constipated soul.

He smiles then, but without freeing a last soft sigh, a chuckle and then begins. "Okay. Okay." He reassures himself. "I might or might not have a friend who is in love with someone but this friend's problem is that this person that this friend is in love with it reciprocating the feeling. So this friend is--"

"Oh. Oh." Yoongi rudely interrupts, exclaiming in realization. "This friend of yours is lithromantic. Go on, tell me more." He says amusedly, eyes bright and lips quirking.

"Yeah, I am—I mean, this friend is lithro..." And then it dawns on Seokjin. "...mantic." He looks at Yoongi unbelievably, both eyes and mouth agape. He could start drooling any second now. "H-how—" He pauses.

There are too many questions forming in his brain right now and it's not helping that half of his brain is screaming at him. Imagine caveman Spongebob running around his brain, such imagery.

"What." Yoongi, again, rudely interrupts him from his breakdown. "Wait... Don't tell me..." His eyebrows went hidden up his ebony black, messy hair covering his forehead. He gasps then in realization that Seokjin must have been running around and living this apartment with him missing a piece of delicate and important information about him.

Seokjin looks down confusedly on Yoongi who is suddenly chuckling his throat out (i hope he chokes, a tiny part of his brain whispers). He could feel his ears heating up. What is this. What monstrosity is this. What is life.

When Yoongi finished laughing, he wipes up the bit of tears on the corner of his eyes before composing himself. "I can't believe Taehyung didn't tell you."

"Tell me what?" Seokjin queries, narrowing his eyes. What is it, again. What life mystery hack did his brother didn't tell him? What secret to a happy life did Taehyung forgot to tell him?

He watches the younger straighten up and smiles cheerily at him.

"That I am an aromantic." Yoongi spills.

Seokjin drops his jaw right then. His heart and brain might as well drop and explode. Such a small piece of information deprived from him is the solution to his problem. How could his brother?! This is a soft form of treason!

He worried over nothing.

"Yeah, so..." Yoongi mumbles, eyes looking down and fingers fidgety. "It's okay if you are romantically in love with me."

Seokjin swears he almost choked. Almost. Especially when Yoongi suddenly has his arms around Seokjin's waist, chests touching, the shorter's chin resting on Seokjin's broad shoulders, and inaudibly mumbling something.

"Huh?" What the fuck. What. Fuck.

Yoongi shakes his head, burying his nose on Seokjin's neck, feeling in his scent.

This is so weird, Seokjin thinks. If Yoongi is an aro then why is he being like this? Why is he being clingy? Why is his nose attached to his neck, sniffing him? What does Yoongi mean when he said that he is okay with it? Okay with what? Seokjin being romantically love with him? What does everything mean?

He feels Yoongi's large, cold hands cupping his face. He looks at the other, meeting eyes with each other.

"You're thinking too much again." Yoongi chuckles. "You kept sighing. I can practically hear you thinking." He detaches his hands from Seokjin's face, but pinching them softly before he does.

He can't keep the silly smile escape his lips. Seokjin being caught up between flustered and dumbfounded is a funny sight. Still, he's also a bit guilty. He should have told Seokjin sooner that he is an aromantic and not rely on Taehyung to relay on the information. He should have expected it from Taehyung (not to badmouth him or anything).

Isn't it basic? During introductions? Or is it not? Do people include their sexuality or gender or preferred pronouns or whatever when they introduce themselves to their soulmate?

Maybe not. But Yoongi regrets not doing so.

Yoongi swipes with his thumbs Seokjin's furrowing eyebrows, making them relax. "If you're thinking how the fuck I know that you're in love with me... Well, I'm not dumb, you know." He grins. "Right after you said that 'my friend is in love', the word reciprocated came up, and also, you suddenly started evading me for the past days, which I would like to add.. is a dick move, I just put up two and two."

Seokjin remains silent.

"What I don't, sort of, understand is how you came up with the idea that I am romantically in love with you." Yoongi mutters, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "But wait. I think I do have a theory." He says, meeting the older's unsteady eyes and flushed face. "Should I say it?" He inquires. He could see the blatant embarrassment and discomfort in Seokjin's demeanor so maybe he could get consent on whether or not he could point out the obvious elephant in the room.

Seokjin visibly gulps, shaking his head as he nervously laughs. "Please spare me a face to show." He pleads, shoving his entire small face on his hands, desperate enough for any comfort and shield his already-maybe-slightly-wounded self-esteem.

Yoongi suppressed the laugh peeking out of his pursed lips, deciding that Seokjin had enough maybe-or-not humiliation. He just watched rather amusedly as the other composed himself with his face buried on his palms, stabilizing his breathing and mumbled words that sounds distinctively relatively close to 'You're okay. You're Kim Seokjin. You're fabulous.'  like a mantra.

When Seokjin has finally recovered and has digested the vast of information he found out in a span of less than half an hour, he concludes something probably even the old lady next door already knows.

"Wait. You love me?"

"Yes, you idiot, I love you. Oddly enough."

"Huh what? Like love love? Or love love?"

Yoongi rolls his eyes and exasperatedly sighs. "Yah! Just because I am aromantic doesn't mean I am incapable of loving someone. What nonsense is this stereotyping aromantics as heartless and soulless creatures. Love doesn't always need to be in a romantic sense." He grumbles. “Don’t mistaken my love for you as anything more than platonic.”

Seokjin just laughs. "Sorry sorry. I get it, I get it. No need to fret." He says, waving his arms up to emphasize empathy. "This is just so weird, don't you think? Yet it feels so right." He proceeds to affectionately squeeze the shorter one in a tight hug, smiling cheekily. "I guess this is why we're soulmates, no? We're soulmates for a reason." He happily states. “Like two different puzzle pieces that fits just right. We’re a perfect match.”

The latter groans. "I can't believe you only realized that now. I thought it was obvious in the beginning. And don’t go cheesy on me, I might cheese back."

"Well, I wasn't the one who knew you are an aro. I guess all problems leads to my brother's fault. And speaking of cheese, I love cheese." Seokjin jokes, detaching himself from Yoongi.

"Yeah yeah, now please feed me. I haven't had decent food in days. I wonder whose fault is that?" Yoongi complains, slowly heading out to their shared kitchen.

Seokjin ignores his complaint and instead follows the other to the kitchen, laughing to himself. "You know what, you remind me of a cat."

"Wow surprising." The shorter fake exclaims, he even made an effort to bring his hands up. "Might as well pet me and give me milk." He pauses and turns to Seokjin. "Or milk me. I'm not choosy." He winks and laughs at the way Seokjin is so easily flustered.

"MIN YOONGI WHAT THE HELL?"
