Summary
When Louisa joined the army, she knew what she was signing up for. She knew the most important thing she could do for her country as a woman was to provide entertainment and heighten the morale of the men. Whenever her squad needed some release, she was there to serve them; she was never meant to be a fighter despite being sent on missions with the squad. When most of her platoon was killed in action, far from home and cut off from command, she had no choice but to pick up a rifle and try to defend her squad. That was the beginning of her transformation into the woman she would become before the war was over.
