Make Believe

Summary:

Spending a summer morning with Dylann.

Notes:

I have never posted a fic quite like this one before! I used to be in the old True Crime Community way back many years ago now and while lots has changed for me now, I still find Dylann to be such an intriguing person and an interesting case. I love being able to explore different sides of people through fictional writing like this and while this is a bit of a short and simple fic as I wrote it quite quickly this morning, I do hope that whoever reads this likes it ☺️ apologies for any spelling errors there may be! I have not fully proofread this quite yet. Writing Southern accents is still somehow rather tricky for me 😅
If you are planning on leaving any rude and hateful comments, I would advise you to not waste your time as they will simply be ignored or deleted, thank you! This is fictional writing and does not at all mean that I condone or romanticise the actions of this individual, which should be easy enough to understand.

Work Text:

The morning sun of South Carolina shines in through the thin curtains and paints the small bedroom in a glistening sea of golden rays. The bright light pieces through the thin skin of your closed eyelids, rousing you from your previously peaceful sleep with a quiet sigh. You slowly blink your heavy eyes open and immediately squint over toward the window opposite the bed without even lifting your head up from the plush pillow. The arms that are wrapped around your lower half in a firm, but gentle, hold and the bare chest that is pressed up against your back keep you from sitting up in bed from your position on your side beneath the thin covers. The fan sitting beside the window blows a calm, humming breeze toward the bed in an effort to combat the sticky heat of the Southern summer.

Dylann really has to get some new curtains.’ you think to yourself with a small, drowsy smile. Your eyes drift over your shoulder as you tilt your head back before softening by an almost impossible amount at the sight behind you. Dylann is still fast asleep in the very same position that he had fallen asleep in last night. He never does tend to move much in his sleep when he has you to hold onto and even less so when you are there to hold him in your own arms too. You are the perfect kind of anchor for him when he needs it most. His blonde hair is a mess atop his head, with sandy coloured strands brushed over and up in every opposite direction possible. His sleeping face is painted with an upmost peace. The kind of peace that is rare to see in him when he is conscious.

As if somehow sensing himself being thought about, Dylann begins to shift beside you beneath the covers of the bed. He tightens his arms around you and presses his bare chest further into your back for a moment before blinking his blue eyes open with a near silent hum escaping his lips. Immediately upon opening his eyes, his hazy gaze meets yours. “What’re you doin’ awake?” He asks, his voice unbelievably soft and his Southern drawl thicker than ever with the lasting veil of sleep that he has yet to be rid of for now. “The sun woke me up.” You explain, turning over in bed so that your front is against his own and bringing a hand up to brush some strands of his hair into their usual place. Dylann instinctively leans further into your gentle touch and glances over toward the window, wincing to himself when he sees the bright sun breaching past the cheap curtains with little effort. “Shoot… ‘m sorry, darlin’.” He murmurs. Both his tone and expression melt into something so genuinely apologetic and almost embarrassed.

You smile and shake your head softly, leaning in to plant a sweet kiss on the corner of his soft lips. “It’s okay, Dylann.” You throw a quick glance over his shoulder and look at the clock that sits upon his wooden bedside table, right beside his digital camera. “I was going to wake up soon anyways. Waking up a little bit earlier than usual never hurt anyone, so I forgive you.” You smirk and press another kiss to his pale skin, this time to the smooth space right below his ear, a spot that you know is sensitive for him. Dylann stiffens beneath your lips at the sensation. “Quit it… ‘s too early for you to be doin’ this t’me.” he huffs lowly, though you can hear the undeniable smile on his face in his voice and in the way that he tilts his head slightly to instinctively offer easier access to the spot. “You love it.” You laugh and press one more quick kiss to the spot before pulling back with a teasing smile when you spot the slight deep red hue that is quickly crawling up along the pale skin of his neck and his ears inward toward his cheeks.

Dylann shakes his head and parts his lips but before any words can come out, the thick wooden door of the bedroom, which had been left cracked open by a small amount, creaks open. Both of you turn your attention toward the sound, followed by tiny paws padding across the floor with an all familiar route. Avery leaps up onto the foot of the bed from the floor and immediately begins kneading the plush covers beneath her paws between you and Dylann. Within a second of Avery making her entrance, Dylann sits up in bed and leans over his legs. He pays no mind to the covers as they slips down and bunch around his waist, revealing the pale skin of his chest which is a stark contrast to the sun tanned skin of his lower arms and hands. “Hey there, sweet girl.” He whispers to Avery, his tone lowering into something akin to that of an intensely natural, paternal coo, while he gives gentle strokes along her fur and scratches her chin. The cat leans into his touch in the very same way that he had leaned into yours mere moments earlier. Your eyes soften as you watch them, as you watch him. You knew that Dylann wanted a family. It was no secret between the two of you, not anymore at least. He had opened up to you about his want for a family months into your relationship. On occasion, after a drink or two, Dylann would even come to you with different names he had thought of for your future children, mumbling and whispering them into your hair like cherished secrets and distant promises. It was something that you both knew you wanted together but were not quite ready for in terms of finance and other things.

You would make a great father, Dylann.” You say quietly, your eyes trailing the gentleness and upmost care that he shows Avery with each stroke across her back. His hand pauses atop her fur and you can see his back straighten up in a way that pulls his shoulders tight. For a moment, he says nothing and the small bedroom is filled with nothing but the sounds of the fan, the calm purring of Avery and breathing. Then, you hear him let out a slightly shaky breath. The topic of children, of future fatherhood, was always something somewhat sensitive for him. It was one of those few things that could reach deep down inside of him with the smallest amount of effort. “Y’ really think so?” Dylann asks, his voice quiet and somewhat timid in a way that you have only ever heard in his most vulnerable moments with you, which are often a fleeting thing that he attempts to mask. He does not turn back around to face you as he speaks. “I think so.” You answer without even a blink of hesitation. “When the time is right, I think you’ll make an amazing father. I know you will.” Dylann turns to you now, his blue eyes shining with a sheen made of not tears but rather something close to euphoria or bliss in you audibly supporting him and believing in him for something that he wants so much. “Reckon’ I could be amazin’ at about anythin’ long as I have you with me, darlin’.” He sniffs with a small smile twitching up at the corner of his lips. “Such a romantic. You can be amazing at putting some new curtains up before the sun blinds me again then.” You tease, though your eyes and soft smile convert far more to him.

Avery tucks her head inwards as she curls up and settles in for a morning nap. “Yeah, yeah… ‘m gonna go buy some new ones today, I promise.” Dylann grins at you in a cheeky and almost boyish way that makes the blue of his eyes appear brighter than usual. He pulls his hand back from the now fast asleep and loudly purring cat before moving his way back up the bed beside you. You open your arms toward him, making a gesture inwards with your hands. Like usual, Dylann hesitates for a passing moment before settling down into your arms. The second his head falls to rest upon your chest and your fingers come to brush through his hair in soothing movements, his lips part with a quiet sigh of relief and comfort. His hand falls to your waist and begins stroking a repeating circle pattern across your hip before trailing across to rest flat atop your tummy.

Once I got us enough money saved up… once we got a little house and all… you’ll make a beautiful mother.” He murmurs into your chest. “You’re the only one. The only one I wanna have kids with. You’re the only woman I can ever even imagine havin’ my baby.” Dylann continues as his thumb moves in continuous soft back and forth brushes across your womb area. “Your baby is the only one that I want to have, Dylann.” You respond, tilting your chin to plant a lingering kiss to the top of his blonde hair and moving your hand to stroke the back of his neck, down toward his upper back. His lips part with a ragged breath that fans hot air across your chest at that. Dylann lifts his head from your chest and slams his lips to yours in a sudden, messy kiss that pulls a surprised gasp from your lips and into his own as they move against yours. “I love you… ‘love you so much.” Dylann breathes heavily into your mouth, his thick Southern drawl almost slurred with clouding lust and heaving emotion. One of his cool hands comes to cradle the side of your face while the other drops lower between your legs, his slim fingers trailing upwards along the softness of your inner thigh.

As the quiet sounds of your lips meeting over and over again in continuous desperate, open mouthed kisses begin to fill the small bedroom and the golden light of the morning sun warms your skin while your bodies press close together as if attempting to become one, you can only hope in the back of your mind that someday soon, the two of you will truly be able to create exactly what you so badly wish to have together.
