Work Text:
"Well, from what I've heard from Pink Diamond's new pearl, her colony is above 50% complete." Yellow taps on her projection as her and Blue Pearl walk to the warp zone.
"Is that so?" Blue hums in response, smiling a bit.
"Yes, she's even began the Beta Kindergarten." Yellow turns to Blue with a smirk.
The pearls reach the warp zone, quickly teleporting to Pink Diamond's colony. It looks much different compared to the last time they'd been here. There was a tremendous amount of quartz soldiers doing their work in the Primary Kindergarten. Yellow stares down in absolute awe at the large amount of quartz soldiers while Blue stands, waiting for Yellow.
"My goodness! Are you seeing this?" Yellow looks over her shoulder, mouth gaping with surprise.
"Yes." Blue replies flatly.
"There's so many! More than 500! How long has it been since we've done our last documentation?" She points frantically at them, trying to make sense of it all.
"2 weeks, Yellow."
Yellow finally composes herself, standing up and walking with Blue to Pink's palace. They warp there and knock on the door. The amethyst from before opens it, smirking as she sees the two pearls.
"Well, been a while since I've seen you all." She chuckles, leaning against the door.
"Yes. Let us through." Yellow rolls her eyes, stepping past the amethyst.
Blue follows behind her. The pearls walk over to Pink's desk, but she isn't there. Her new pearl is there, waiting for her Diamond to return.
"What brings you two here...?" Pearl tilts her head, interested in their arrival.
"We're here to document Pink Diamond's colony, specifically the Beta Kindergarten." Yellow takes a step forward, hands on her hips.
"Pink Diamond is out for the moment."
"She's where exactly?" Yellow looks around the room.
"Back on Homeworld. She is handling work with the other Diamonds."
Yellow and Blue Pearl glance at each other, silently asking one another 'What do we do?'.
"I don't suppose she'll mind if we do our work now and report later?" Blue asks, putting her hands on her chest.
"I don't see why not. I'll inform Pink when she returns." Pearl smiles at her, speaking very robotically.
Yellow takes that and immediately turns to leave. Blue walks beside her, the two heading for the Beta Kindergarten.
"I wonder if they'll be any new gems like Cinnabar." Blue mutters to Yellow as they walk.
"Perhaps, it would be rather interesting."
They arrive at the Beta Kindergarten, very few quartz soldiers working within it. It looked similar to the beginning of the Primary Kindergarten, with very little soldiers.
Yellow's attention was mainly on the quartz soldiers, watching as one by one, as they burst out of the ground. Blue stops walking when she realizes Yellow is distracted.
"What are you looking at?" Blue walks towards her, trying to see what Yellow sees.
"The quartz soldiers. It's so interesting seeing them form..."
"I...I don't see what you see." Blue mutters, her voice much softer.
Yellow looks beside her, knowing what Blue was referring to. She feels guilty for saying what she did.
"Blue....I'm sorry.." Yellow sighs, putting a hand on Blue's shoulder.
"It's okay. You don't need to-"
"Here, I'll show you what I was talking about." Yellow interrupts her, pulling her by the hand.
Yellow searches around, trying find a hole within the planet's surface. She finds one eventually, sitting Blue down close enough that she'll be able to see clearly.
"Here, can you see me clearly?" Yellow stands in front of the hole, awaiting Blue's response.
"Yes, but why are you acting like this?" Blue nods, then tilts her head.
"I....I want to apologize. And I want to be able to see what I can." Yellow replies, smiling sincerely at Blue.
Yellow tries to go into the hole, the difficulty more than she realized. It was the shape of a big quartz soldier, not of a skinny pearl. Despite that, she fits herself into the hole.
"You watching me?" Yellow calls out to Blue.
"Yes." She yells back.
Yellow closes her eyes and starts to count to ten, preparing to burst out of the hole. When she reaches ten, she throws herself out of it, her intention on land perfectly on the ground. But, she doesn't. She trips as she lands and tumbles over, landing on top of Blue. Yellow groans as she raises her head, taking a few seconds to realize what she's done.
"Oh! I...I'm so sorry, I meant to...."
Blue stares up at Yellow, her face flushed with surprise. Her mouth slowly morphs into a smile, confusing Yellow.
"Hah....Haha....!" Blue laughs slowly, her hand digging into her messy hair.
Yellow just looks down at her, her cheeks heating up. Was she actually laughing?
"Haha! Oh my, Yellow..."
"You....laughed...."
Blue smiles up at her, her face now completely visible. Yellow sits up properly, trying to process what she'd just seen.
"I....I didn't think that you..." Yellow grabs her hair softly, still surprised.
"Mhm, funny isn't it?"
Yellow chuckles at her, practically forgetting what they were supposed to be doing. They sit there for a few minutes before Blue stands up, lending her hand out to Yellow.
"Come on, we need to continue our work." She says while fixing her hair with her other hand.
Yellow takes her hand, also fixing her now messy hair. The pearls walk back to the Beta Kindergarten, going back to their tasks.
"I've already counted a few Cinnabars. Mainly just regular quartz soldiers though."
"If I'm remembering correctly, your Diamond wanted more Cinnabars to be sent to Homeworld." Blue looks down at the gems below them.
"That's right. I'll have to inform Pink Diamond of that."
The pearls go on with their work, documenting the progression of the Beta Kindergarten. When they finish, they return to Pink's palace to report. But when they enter, she still isn't there.
"Is Pink Diamond still out?" Yellow Pearl calls out to Pearl
"Yes, she is." Pearl responds, almost robotically.
"Right...when do you suppose she'll be back?" Yellow asks, annoyed.
"I can estimate she'll be back in an hour."
Yellow almost groans, but keeps herself calm. Pearl's robotic demeanor falters for a moment, noticing Yellow's annoyance.
"We'll excuse ourselves now." Blue speaks suddenly, stepping forward.
"Oh...but shouldn't you-"
"It's fine. We will return in an hour." Blue cuts her off, seeming interested in something else.
"...Understood." Pearl glances away for a second before looking back at Blue.
Blue turns and walks to the door, confusing Yellow, who follows behind her. They walk close to the Primary Kindergarten but go past it, making Yellow even more confused. The pearls continue before turning into a gap in the planet's surface.
"Blue, what are we doing-?"
Yellow feels herself being pushed against the rock wall, her lips connected to Blue's. Yellow quickly composes herself, her hands almost instinctively moving onto Blue's hips, returning the kiss. They stand there for a while, just kissing each other passionately. Blue does finally pull back, panting heavily.
"That....My goodness, what's got you kissing me like this..?" Yellow smiles sheepishly, rubbing her hands over Blue's hips.
"We haven't seen each other for a while. I...missed you."
"I can see..."
Yellow presses her lips against Blue's, now moving at a much slower pace. One of her hands moves up into Blue Pearl's hair, caressing it softly. Now it feels more like them, the soft kisses, the touching. It felt more comfortable. Blue pulls back, lowering her head to Yellow's neck, which confuses the pearl. When she feels Blue's lips pressing against her neck, Yellow flinches at the contact.
"Is this...okay?" Blue raises her head.
"Uh....I...don't know." Yellow admits nervously, avoiding Blue's hidden gaze.
Blue takes a step back, holding Yellow's hand, trying to comfort her.
"Sorry..." Yellow rubs the back of her neck, glancing up at Blue
"Don't be sorry. I may have gotten carried away." Blue shakes her head, her thumb tracing over Yellow's hand.
"Alright..."
The air surrounding them is now awkward.
"Maybe later on, we can do that, okay?" Yellow smiles a bit, trying to lighten the mood.
"Maybe."
"How about we just relax for now?" She pulls Blue into a loose hug, pressing her forehead against Blue's.
"Okay."
Yellow presses a soft kiss on her forehead, more comfortable with this. When they walk out of the gap, Yellow picks up Blue, spinning her around. They quickly fuse together into Emerald.
"Woah...." Emerald stares in awe at the kindergarten.
She walks around, looking from afar. She couldn't be seen by any other gem.
Emerald took her time observing the planet's beauty, curious about everything she was seeing. It was all new to her and she loved every little thing she was looking at.
"Everything here is just....so nice." She mutters to herself, tracing her hands over the planet's surface.
Her hand unconsciously traces over her neck, making her stop. She feels a pit growing in her stomach, as Yellow's emotions start to bubble up.
"Are you okay...?" She says to...herself.
"Huh?" Emerald blinks.
"Are you feeling okay? I can sense your stress..." She speaks again, now clear that Blue was talking to her.
"I..think so. I don't know why I'm feeling like this.." Emerald sighs, looking up into the atmosphere.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
Emerald takes a moment, rubbing her arm softly.
"Yeah..."
"Is this because...I kissed your neck?"
"It is...." She mutters, looking down to the ground.
A pause occurs.
"I just didn't expect it," Emerald rubs the back of her neck, feeling an increase of nervousness. "We've mostly just been doing little things and since we've been away from each other for so long, it feels weird."
Another pause.
"That is true. Especially with us in this relationship."
"What...does that mean?" Emerald tilts her head, confused by what Blue is saying through her.
"What we have....it's odd, it's new and confusing. We'll make mistakes and do things that we aren't sure of, and that's completely normal...."
Emerald blinks, a smile starting to form on her lips.
"Yeah....and we'll work through it, right?" She whispers, almost wanting to cry.
"Exactly. And until you're ready, we won't do anything like that."
Emerald holds herself, her four arms wrapping around her form.
"Thank you, Blue..."
The gems unfuse, hugging each other. Yellow pulls back, smiling sincerely at Blue. She puts her hand onto Blue's cheek, bringing her face closer to hers. Yellow presses her lips onto Blue's forehead, making the other gem giggle softly.
"I...I love you, Blue." She kisses her face again, now more relaxed.
"I love you too, Yellow..." Blue pulls Yellow closer to her, smiling lovingly.
They sit there for a while before standing up, heading back to Pink's palace to wait for her. They spend their time in there, both wondering what Pink Diamond was up to back on Homeworld.
"Pink, do you think that White would even care?" Yellow scolds her, circling around her.
"I....I don't know...." Pink shudders at the question.
"Exactly. White doesn't care about you or your colony? She hasn't before, so why now?"
"I don't know...." She repeats, staring down at the floor.
Yellow pinches the bridge of her nose, annoyed at Pink's reluctance.
"If you cannot understand a simple thing like White not caring about you. I have no faith in your progression as a Diamond." Yellow turns away from her, sighing tiredly.
Pink finally looks up at Yellow, feeling heartbroken. She'd been trying so hard to gain their approval, and she almost did. She could see the light that she was chasing for thousands of years, but the light disappeared in this very moment.
"And you-" Yellow looks over her shoulder, stopping herself when she gets a good look at Pink.
Pink stands there, crying in silence. She wasn't screaming or throwing a tantrum. She was just crying in complete utter silence.
"Blue, stop using your powers on her." Yellow turns to Blue, slowly growing more annoyed.
"I'm not...?" Blue glances over at Pink, confused by Yellow's annoyed comment.
"You....aren't?" Yellow's eyes widen slightly, looking back towards Pink.
Pink continues to cry, her thoughts racing with panic and pain.
This is all your fault! You're so incompetent!
Her breathing starts to become more shaky.
This is why you're not a real Diamond.
Yellow stares down at Pink, growing more confused. She doesn't even see a group of quartz soldiers entering the room. Blue walks over to them, talking to them. Yellow walks over to Pink, kneeling down to her.
"Pink, stop crying."
Pink wipes her tears, tilting her head up at Yellow.
"Crying won't do anything, it makes you weak." Yellow scoffs at her, her gaze narrowing.
"I'm sorry, Yellow..." Pink shifts her gaze away, practically hugging herself.
"And saying sorry is also a sign of weakness." Yellow lets out a long breath, walking away from her.
Yellow stands behind Blue, listening to her conversation with the quartz soldiers.
"Yeah, it's them! They've fused like twice now!" An amethyst says, almost excitedly.
"What are you talking about?" Yellow puts herself into the conversation, bringing the attention to herself.
"There's three gems in our colony who have fused. They're all quartz soldiers and they even helped us to fight off some bug monsters!"
Blue and Yellow glance at each other, silently asking the same question. 'Why were three quartz soldiers fusing together?'
"Fight off some bug monsters?" Yellow raises an eyebrow, now interested in this fusion.
"Yeah! On our Diamond's colony, there were some native inhabitants. Our Diamond tasked us to exterminate them, and while we were fighting, the fusion popped up and defeated one of them!" The amethyst explains with excitement, acting out her explanation with the other quartz soldiers.
Yellow looks behind her, her gaze fixed onto Pink. She takes a moment to think before looking back at the quartz soldiers.
"Tell those quartz soldiers to stay together. We may have a new weapon in our arsenal." Yellow smirks at them, her eyes studying Blue for a second.
The quartz soldiers are surprised by Yellow Diamond's request but don't second guess it. They nod and leave the room without another word.
Yellow walks off in silence. Blue follows her, also surprised.
"Yellow, what are you doing?"
"I'm being tactical, that's what I am doing." Yellow stands tall, keeping a stoic expression.
"Having a fusion in your army? Isn't that....?" Blue looks away, concerned.
"It's between the same type of gem, not two completely different gems." She refutes, not wanting to argue.
"Alright...." Blue sighs, running a hand through her hair.
Blue and Yellow stand there in an uncomfortable silence, eventually Blue walks over to Pink, kneeling down to her.
"Go back to your colony, Pink. We're done now." Blue tells her, her tone a mix of emotions.
Pink nods her head, walking out in a sad silence. She heads for the warp zone, warping back to her colony. Entering her palace, she immediately notices Yellow and Blue Pearl.
"Oh....you're both here. Came to report your progress?" She sighs, walking towards her desk.
"Yes, we did." Yellow says proudly, glancing over at Blue with a smirk.
"Mm, go ahead with your report." Pink sits down, trying to focus on the progress report.
"We have looked at the Beta Kindergarten and it's running smoothly. Some more Cinnabar's have formed." Yellow projects a hologram from her gem, reading off the information.
"Really, that's wonderful."
"Yes. I'd like to remind you that the other Diamonds requested for any further Cinnabar's to be sent to Homeworld."
"That's right..."
"Other than that, the Beta Kindergarten is doing just fine and will more than likely go as intended." Blue says with certainty.
The pearls end their progress report, putting a small smile on Pink Diamond's lips.
As they return to Homeworld, they share a sweet kiss before going to their Diamonds. It was more comfortable.
