“My Diamond, there’s something troubling you.”
Blue stops combing her hair, looking down towards her Pearl with confusion.
“What? Why do you suppose that?” Blue smiles a bit, interested in her statement.
“I can feel your pain, my Diamond.” Blue Pearl faces her Diamond, her voice flat.
"Pain about what?"
"I...I believe it revolves around Yellow Diamond. I could be wrong."
Blue sighs, setting the sentient comb on the edge of her pool.
“Pearl, that…isn’t an issue. How about I tell you something?” Blue leans down to Blue Pearl, smiling sincerely.
“What is it, my Diamond?”
“You are so emotionless, my Pearl. That’s quite backwards given your gem placement.”
Blue Pearl unconsciously touches her gemstone, which rests on her chest.
“I can be more emotional if you so wish, my Diamond.” She tries to ignore the fact, almost moving on autopilot.
“That’s not it. Just try, my Pearl.” Blue Diamond shakes her head, her smile disappearing.
Blue Pearl looks down into the water, confused by her Diamond’s statement. She was trying, but was it not enough?
“You are excused, Blue Pearl…”
“What?”
“You can leave. I’ll be fine on my own.” Blue Diamond smiles at her, beginning to comb her hair.
Blue Pearl nods silently, stepping away from Blue Diamond’s pool. When she exits Blue Diamond’s room, she stops for a moment to think. What was she doing wrong? She was being more expressive since her creation, and yet it wasn’t enough.
She walks around aimlessly, trying her absolute best to figure out what she was doing wrong. Was it how she spoke? Was it her tone?
Blue stops walking around, realizing that she was wandering around Homeworld. She looks around and realizes that she’s nearby Pink Diamond’s room.
She decides in that moment that she’ll go over there.
Entering Pink Diamond’s room, it shined and glittered under the lights. She could hear Pink Diamond in the distance, following her voice.
“Pink Diamond?” She calls out, looking around.
Blue goes around a corner, able to make out Pearl in the distance. She approaches the other pearl, hoping to improve her emotional development.
“Hello.” She says to Pearl, holding her hands.
“Oh, hello. What brings you to Pink Diamond’s room?” Pearl replies, her voice equally as flat.
Blue Pearl takes a long moment to reply, her mind caught up in Pearl’s tone. She sounded like a robot, they both sounded like robots.
“I…am…” She tries to get out, struggling to speak.
Pearl’s smile falters for a second, noticing Blue Pearl struggling to speak.
“Is…something the matter?” She asks, taking a step forward.
Blue Pearl just stands there, confused by her inability to grasp what was wrong.
“I…I was e…excused by….my Diamond.” She finally blurts out, feeling a weight lifted off her shoulders.
Pearl returns back to her neutral state, smiling blankly at Blue Pearl.
“Understood. My Diamond over there if you wish to speak with her.” Pearl points behind her, seemingly towards Pink Diamond.
Blue nods silently, walking past Pearl. She quickly finds Pink, laughing to…someone or something. She climbs up to the table, trying to see who she’s laughing at.
“Pink Diamond?” She says, reaching the table.
Pink stops laughing, looking to her side to look at Blue Pearl.
“Oh! Hello, why are you here?” She smiles at her, leaning her head on her hands.
“My Diamond excused me…” She whispers, looking away from Pink Diamond.
“Well, you can relax here if you want, I don’t mind.” She reassures, keeping her kind demeanour.
Blue Pearl nods her head, sitting on the edge of the table.
She sits there in complete silence, just swinging her feet. Blue does hear some faint giggling but ignores it at first. When she hears it again, she looks behind her and takes notices the house across the room. She stands up and climbs down from the table, walking towards the house. When she enters the small dollhouse, she looks around for the source of the noise.
"Hello?" She whispers, looking into the rooms.
The noise stops, replaced with hushed whispers.
"Is someone....here?"
A head peeks out from one of the rooms, a Pebble. Blue stops, staring back at the scared pebble.
"Are you the one who was giggling?" She tilts her head, taking a step closer.
The pebble runs back into the room, scared by Blue's movement. Blue Pearl sits down, feeling a tinge of sadness. The pebble peeks out again, watching for any signs of danger. When Blue doesn't move, the pebble shuffles towards her. The pebble tugs at Blue's skirt, getting her attention.
"Oh? I thought I scared you." Blue gets surprised, lending her hand out to the pebble.
The pebble jumps up onto her hand, giggling. The other pebbles all start emerge from their hiding places, surrounding Blue Pearl.
"O...Oh! Uh...." She stutters, unsure of how to deal with all of the pebbles.
They all start to fiddle with her skirt, admiring the material. They even begin to climb onto her, playing with her hair.
"Hey....Get off from there." She picks up some of them, placing them onto the floor
The pebbles all giggle at her reaction, making Blue's face flush.
"Huh?" She holds her face, feeling it heat up.
One of the pebbles climbs onto her lap, gesturing for Blue to pick her up. When Blue lends her hand out, the pebble sits on her palm, holding it's hands out.
"Do you want something?" Blue tilts her head slightly, confused by it's gesture.
Blue brings the pebble closer to her face, trying to decipher what it wants. The pebble moves Blue's hair out of the way, revealing her flushed face.
"Why...Why are you...?"
It giggles at her, the others following suit. Blue Pearl just stares down at the pebble, not knowing how to react.
She continues to stare in complete disbelief, watching as the pebbles run around and laugh their hearts out.
"....Hah...."
The pebbles all stop, surprised by Blue's small laugh.
"Hah...Hah!" She laughs slowly, a smile forming on her lips.
The pebbles begin their high pitched laughter again, circling around Blue Pearl.
"Oh my! Haha!"
"Having fun, are we?"
Blue immediately stops, along with the pebbles. Pink Diamond smiles down at them all, which makes Blue Pearl flush.
"Oh! P..Pink Diamond...!" She sets down the pebble, fixing her hair.
"It's alright. I won't tell Blue. It's nice that someone else can have fun." Pink shakes her head, keeping her warm smile.
Blue Pearl nods her head, standing up. The pebbles all become sad, holding Blue's legs.
"Uh....L...Let go, please." She shakes her leg softly, trying to get one of the pebbles off of her.
"Let her go, Nosey."
It gets off her leg, walking over to Pink Diamond.
"Nosey?" Blue Pearl looks down at the pebble, confused by the name.
"That's it's name. You want me to tell you everyone's names?"
"Sure.." Blue looks behind her, gazing down at the other pebbles.
Pink points at one after another, smiling cheekily.
"That's Brainy, That one is Footy. Noggin and Patch are those two. The one on your foot is Fisto. And you've met Nosey."
The pebbles all put their attention on Pink Diamond, playing around like a bunch of little children. Blue watches in silence, almost wanting to join in. She resists however, walking off.
"Going back to Blue?"
"Yes. My Diamond will be needing me." Blue Pearl looks away from Pink Diamond, keeping her stoic composure.
"Alright..."
And with that, she exits the room without another word. She returns to Blue Diamond's room, her Diamond still in her pool. Blue Pearl crosses the room, stopping beside her Diamond.
"My Diamond, I have returned."
"Mm..." Blue Diamond hums in response, leaning back against her pool.
Blue Pearl sits down, looking at her reflection. An awkward feeling grows in the room as the two gems stay silent.
"Pearl, we have to go." Blue Diamond stands up, stepping out of the pool.
"Where to, my Diamond?"
"My current colony, of course." Blue laughs a bit, looking down to her pearl.
The gems go to one of the many warp zones, teleporting to Blue Diamond's current colony. A planet filled to the brim with water and terrain. There's a large amount of organic life on said terrain, but that doesn't matter to the gems. Blue Pearl immediately notices a Lapis Lazuli terraforming a large chunk of terrain, splitting it into half.
"Looks beautiful, doesn't it?" Blue sighs, closing her eyes with a small smile.
"Yes, it definitely looks nice, my Diamond." Blue Pearl keeps her eyes locked onto the Lapis Lazuli while speaking.
Blue Diamond wanders off, leaving her pearl to observe the planet's surface. There wasn't just a Lapis Lazuli, there were also more blue tinted Quartz soldiers walking around.
Blue Pearl walks speedily over to the Lapis Lazuli, interested in what she's doing. When she splits another chunk, she takes notice of Blue Pearl, flying down towards her.
"You lost, little gem?" She asks in an almost condescending tone.
"No, I was just interested in yo-"
"Of course you were. Being a Lapis Lazuli is a privilege, it's something that every gem wants."
Blue Pearl doesn't respond, staring up at her.
"Well? Shouldn't a pearl go back to whomever owns her?" Lapis looks around, not noticing Blue Diamond.
"I was excused." Blue says in a hushed tone, looks down at the dirt ground.
"Right..." She rolls her eyes, bring her attention back to Blue Pearl. "Why don't you get out of here? You're not worth my attention."
The Lapis Lazuli flies back up, continuing her terraforming. Blue Pearl looks up at her, feeling a tinge of anger. She shouldn't feel like this. But she did, and she didn't bother to conceal it like she'd usually do. Walking away, Blue wander down into a small forest, the majority of trees destroyed. She walks past one of the bushes and hears some shuffling, bringing her attention towards it.
"Something's there...." She mutters to herself, kneeling towards the bush.
A small creature peeks it's head out, tears flowing down it's face.
"Oh..."
The creature steps out of the bush, taking a few small steps towards Blue Pearl. It wasn't acting violent or angry, it was just scared. Blue Pearl lets it get closer to her, letting herself be vulnerable. Before it could get too close. it froze up.
"What's wro-"
A foot slams onto it, squishing it onto the ground. The creature's blood spilled onto the ground, tainting it. Blue Pearl looks up, seeing a Quartz soldier above her.
"Stupid creature. Sorry 'bout that." She says with a sneer, looking down at Blue Pearl.
Blue stands up silently, walking past the soldier. She quickly finds Blue Diamond, who's speaking the Lapis Lazuli from earlier. When they finish talking, Blue Diamond kneels down to her pearl.
"We're returning to Homeworld now, let's go."
Blue Pearl nods, walking behind her Diamond. When they reach the warp zone, Blue Pearl takes a good second to observe her surroundings, the beautiful nature that was being destroyed, the creature that was killed. She doesn't even realize when tears start to flow down her face.
"Why are you crying?" Blue Diamond frowns at her, wiping her pearl's tears.
"This planet..." She mutters, her hands hovering close to her chest.
"Yes, it is beautiful. The resources will be helpful to us, of course."
"Of course..."
They warp back to Homeworld, returning to Blue Diamond's room. Blue Pearl felt so many emotions in just one day.
Maybe tomorrow would be better?
