The fish man steps into the house, and Karl groans quietly in disgust. “Why do you insist I come here with you, Winters? You know I hate the smell of fish.”
“Because he likes seeing us, and he likes seeing his brother.” Ethan argues, fixing Karl’s jacket and hat. “Besides, you know Rose loves him.”
“She's barely a year old, she doesn't even know he's a freak yet.” Karl grumbles.
“We're all freaks, Karl. She doesn't know the difference, and that's a good thing.” Ethan reminds him, and Karl immediately feels guilty. Ethan had called himself that ever since he found out he was made of mold, a freak. Karl had always hated it when he called himself that, because he wasn't that. He was brave, and stubborn, and the sweetest person Karl had ever met.
And damn it, Karl loved him.
