Quinn has always been insecure and felt like he didn’t deserve much, let alone love. Going to Minnesota was something new and it scared him. He knew some of the players on the team but wouldn’t say he was exactly friends with any of them. Matt was the first person who reached out to him and they started to become friends and maybe something more. The something more scared Quinn the most. He wasn’t sure what him and Matt were but he knew he couldn’t lose him and whatever this was, it was too important and for the firs time in Quinn’s life he felt like he was enough for someone.
The season was over, they lost in the playoffs and were just finishing up the end of season stuff. Matt and Quinn were both at the arena in the locker room, cleaning out the last of their stuff. They were the only ones left, coming in later than anyone else. Quinn kept looking over at Matt, sneaking glances at the other man. He thought he was being subtle but Matt noticed, he noticed everything about Quinn there as to notice.
“Hey, do you want to grab coffee after? It’s a little late for lunch but coffee is good at anytime of day.” Matt asked, putting his last items into his bag.
“Yeah sounds great.” Quinn cringed at himself, why was he so awkward about everything? They left together, getting into Matt’s car. Quinn has a rental car for the last few months but took it back this morning so he was without a car, luckily Matt didn’t mind driving him. The cafe Matt took them to was quiet for the middle of the afternoon but Quinn though it was adorable.
“Do you have plans for the offseason?” Matt asked.
“No it much, probably head to the cottage in a few weeks. Training with my brothers. The usual. You could join us if you don’t have much going on.” Quinn blurted that last part out, without much thought to what he was saying.
“I wouldn’t want to intrude on your time with your brothers.”
“No please, it’s fine. We invite people all the time, it’s cool. My brothers won’t care. They’ve probably already invited friends of their own to join, one more person it’s that big of a deal. My parents only come the week of July 4th so other than that we have free use all summer so whenever you come it’s cool, really I promise.” Quinn knew he was rambling but just couldn’t stop himself.
“Quinn relax, it’s okay.” Matt reached out putting his hand over top of Quinn’s on the table. Quinn didn’t know what to say anymore, the words taken out of his mouth and any thoughts in his head gone.
“What did I do to deserve you?”
“Quinn you deserve so much, more than what you think you do.” Quinn turned his hand over so he could properly hold Matt’s on the table. Matt smiled at him and Quinn finally felt like his brain wasn’t running 100 miles and hour for the first time in months.
