Work Text:
It was a chilly Saturday morning. Not that every morning in Devildom wasn't chilly.
During breakfast, you couldn't help but feel more excited than usual. During your shared class with Simeon and Luke, you convinced them to make a visit to the House of Lamentation so you could show them some of your favourite childhood shows.
By 12 noon, the two of them were knocking on HOL's door.
You took one final look at your work in the living room, cozying it up for a binge session, before you practically skipped up to the large door. Swinging it open, you immediately looked down to search for Luke's blond hair.
He was so, so cute. It was really hard not to liken him to a puppy, honestly. His cheeks were red, his face and body language trying to hide his excitement behind indifference. But his eyes had that sparkle in them, the way kids look when they see someone they like.
"Hi, guys!" You couldn't help but wave both your hands in the air. The excitement of sharing your favourite media was always an occasion for jazz hands.
Luke still looked excited, but he almost seemed embarrassed to act his age... well, what you meant was embarrassed to act like a kid.
You finally looked up at Simeon. He was in his usual casual outfit and wore his usual small smile.
"We are here for our playdate," he said, seemingly trying to tease Luke, though not maliciously.
"So," you started, giddy, "I have a list of a few of my favourite shows from the Human World. I'm not sure what kind of stuff you like... other than baking." You ushered them inside, mindlessly rambling. Excitement does that, ya know?
Making sure they were following you to the living room, you continued, "I can't say I was specifically into baking shows as a kid. Maybe when the Cooking Channel was on at my grandma's."
"The Cooking Channel?" Simeon laughed. "You were watching the Cooking Channel as a kid?"
"Not much. It wasn't riveting enough for my low attention span." You patted the couch.
Luke carefully sat down. Simeon seemed comfortable in the silence, as if waiting for Luke to get the courage to speak about what he liked to watch.
"What's on the Cooking Channel? Is it like video recipes?" he asked, almost mumbling, trying to feign disinterest.
"Basically. You guys must not have cable television in the Celestial Realm?" You flopped onto the couch. "Devildom doesn't have it."
You pulled up the list on your Notes app, scrolling through it on your D.D.D.
"That sounds like something Luke would enjoy." Simeon sat close to you, ushering Luke to sit between the two of you.
Luke indulged him. None of you were touching uncomfortably, just sharing the couch.
"Well... yeah, I didn't particularly enjoy those shows." You laughed absentmindedly. "Luke had a better attention span than I did."
Luke looked around the room nervously.
"So, do you like fairy tales? Cars? Mystery? I really liked Scooby-Doo, though my little brother loves Cars." You put your D.D.D. down.
Luke furrowed his brows, pondering. "Cars? What would that be about?"
You glanced up. Simeon was wearing a similarly confused expression.
"Mechanics?"
"No, no... it's about, like... talking cars. No humans. They race and go on adventures and stuff. It's hard to describe..."
Luke's mouth made this funny shape, like a little side pout that signalled the deep thoughts of a kid.
"Sounds... strange."
Simeon gave him a pat on the head.
Luke shook his hand off.
"Okay, okay... have you heard of Scooby-Doo?" You spoke to him directly. Kids like that, right? "I loved it. It's about these teenagers who catch people who commit petty crimes, but at first it seems supernatural. It's right around your age range, I think." You explained with your hands.
"That sounds more interesting." Luke nodded at you expectantly.
"Then there's Disney... they make fairy tale-style movies."
"Human fairy tales are scary, no?" a voice floated out from behind the couch.
Satan, with a cup of tea in hand and glasses perched on his nose.
"Not the modern versions." You rolled your eyes.
"S-scary?" Luke looked between the two of you.
You gave him a comforting pat on the head, though you couldn't help but notice he didn't push you away like he did Simeon.
"You're talking about the Brothers Grimm versions, right?" You rested an arm on the back of the couch so you could look at Satan more comfortably. He walked up, sizing up your little get-together.
"Yes. Most of those end in—"
"Shhh." You waved frantically. "The modern ones have happily-ever-afters."
Simeon raised a brow.
You glanced at him, rolling your eyes, then looked back at Luke, who was already looking to you for guidance.
"There's Cinderella, Snow White... hm... the modern ones, like Moana." You shrugged.
"I've never heard of the latter," Satan said, plopping down beside Simeon.
"Aw, Satan, do you wanna watch movies too?" you teased. "I never pegged you as the type for kids' movies."
He rolled his eyes. "I didn't peg you as the type either."
"Then you grossly misjudged me." You sighed.
He rolled his eyes harder. "I wanna watch this Moana you speak of."
"Why do you talk in tongues?" You laughed. "Luke, how do you feel about Moana?" You refocused on him. "It's about this girl who lives on an island, but her parents won't let her sail the sea like she wants to, etcetera, etcetera." You gave him the no-spoilers version.
"That sounds interesting."
Simeon wiggled further into the couch, settling in for the movie.
"Sure. Let's watch that!" Luke nodded, pulling his knees up to his chin to get comfortable.
-
After your movie night—no, technically movie noon—your cuteness aggression for Luke was only strengthened. Seemingly, the brothers noticed it too.
Lord Diavolo offered to host an impromptu sleepover after complaining that he didn't get to see his exchange students or the brothers enough.
Hanging behind most of the HOL group, you chatted with Satan, discussing possible movies for the night. He offered some seemingly inappropriate-sounding Devildom fairy tale movies.
"These all sound like they're meant to prime kids to be... malicious, at best." You shook your head.
"And human tales are much better?" he chuckled. "I always say you should teach human children to kiss unconscious women."
You laughed, not expecting Satan to make such a witty, yet funny, remark. "Okay, fair."
Mammon, who you could only assume was hanging back to ensure your safety because, after all, he was your "protector," idly listened to your conversation.
"Why would we watch a kids' movie anyway?" he prodded, looking over his shoulder at you and Satan.
"They enjoy them, of course," Satan chuckled.
"Oh, please. You were enjoying Moana." You punched his shoulder.
"I'm a big Maui fan. What can I say?" he shrugged.
"Except 'You're welcome?'" you replied in a singsong voice.
Mammon furrowed his brows.
"Why are you guys watching kids' movies... together?"
"Family planning?" Asmo butted in, clearly eavesdropping.
You and Satan rolled your eyes.
Mammon suddenly had a concerned look on his face.
You sighed.
"For Luke, duhhh."
"You'd like kids' movies too," Satan scoffed. "Maybe then you wouldn't have to interrupt every five seconds to ask what's going on!" He shot Mammon an annoyed look.
You sighed but still laughed at them.
"We watched a movie with Luke... and Simeon, of course."
"His literal guardian angel," Satan mumbled.
"Anyways..." You gave him a light shove. "If we watch a movie again tonight, it has to be kid-appropriate." You said it like it was obvious.
"Or wait till it's past his bedtime?" Mammon laughed with his usual demonic bravado.
"You guys are so mean." You crossed your arms. "Luke deserves to be included too."
"I'd prefer him over Lucifer," Satan sighed.
"I don't know if that's a huge compliment, a backhanded compliment, or the worst insult I've ever heard." You laughed.
"Hurry up!"
The three of you looked ahead to see an annoyed Asmo waving his hands. The rest of the group had reached the castle by now, patiently—or maybe not so patiently—waiting for you.
Meeting them, you made your way inside. The exuberance of Diavolo's castle never failed to amaze, yet also annoy, you.
Diavolo was waiting for you all, standing with his arms already outstretched, shouting, "Welcome back! Good to see you!"
You said hello politely and snuck over to the Purgatory Hall group.
Simeon, Solomon, and Luke all greeted you politely, strangely formal, like you, Simeon, and Luke weren't singing along to Moana last week.
"So formalll..." You playfully rolled your eyes. "I don't bite."
"Your Mammon does." Solomon laughed, going in for a friendly hug.
You reciprocated, giving him a friendly pat on the back.
Then, to Simeon, a thumbs-up.
Finally, you bent down to Luke's level.
"Wassup." You wiggled your brows.
Luke gave you a very, very, very confused look.
"Hi!"
You could hear Solomon and Simeon chuckling behind him.
"Movie tonight?" You grinned. "Whatcha think?"
He gave you a small smile and a nod.
"I wanna watch the car one you were talking about..." his small voice said, a bigger smile appearing on his lips.
"Car movie?" Diavolo's usual smooth, commanding voice questioned. "I'm intrigued. A human movie, I'm assuming."
"Only we could come up with such wonders." You smiled at him, standing back up.
The brothers had also navigated their way over to your conversation, not unusual for them.
"A movie about cars?" Belphie spoke. "Is the main character a car fixer?"
"You mean a mechanic?" You laughed. "No, it's about talking cars."
"Sounds like the uncanny valley," Asmo chimed in.
"How do you even know what that is?" you gestured toward him.
-
"I'd rather watch a movie about me." Asmo sighed, picking at the food on his plate.
"I wouldn't." Mammon huffed.
"I'm not sure what kind of movies you make, but they probably wouldn't be Luke-appropriate," Lucifer sighed.
"Will there be snacks?" Beel hummed, food stuffed in his mouth.
"I'd like to learn about the movies human children watch." Diavolo smiled. "Don't you agree, Lucifer?"
"I don't care," he sighed.
"Why don't we watch Devildom kids' shows?" Mammon leaned back in his chair, using the dining table for leverage.
"No," you and Simeon said in tandem.
You heard Levi laugh from behind his portable game console.
"Please, guys!" you said dramatically. "I wanna watch something we can all enjoy."
"But what about murder and mayhem?" Belphie sighed, his cheek resting on the table.
"No murder or mayhem," you said sternly.
"It's probably past Luke's bedtime by now anyway." Mammon reused his earlier argument.
"He can stay up, can't he?" You looked expectantly at Simeon.
He paused, glancing at Luke before nodding.
Luke gave you the cutest smile in the world, activating your cuteness aggression, which you barely held back.
"Seeee!" You put on your best puppy-dog eyes. "Please... let's take a vote!" You clapped your hands together. "Raise your hand if you're okay with watching Cars. We can watch something else after." You stuck out your bottom lip in a pout, pulling out all the stops.
You looked around the table.
Of course, Luke's and your hands were raised, sharing hopeful smiles. Simeon had a happy smile on his face, his hand raised. Solomon wore a little grin, his hand raised too.
Perfect.
All you needed were three more hands. With seven votes, that was more than half of the thirteen beings sitting at the table.
Across from you, Diavolo also had his hand raised. Of course, that meant Lucifer and Barbatos followed suit, although they didn't seem nearly as happy with their votes as Diavolo did.
That made 7 out of 13 votes—a win.
However, Beel also had his hand up, presumably for the snacks.
Satan too, which confused you.
As well... you assumed Mammon had his hand up because most everyone else did.
Levi had his up too, even though you didn't think he was listening.
"Ooooh, crushing defeat! That's 11 out of 13! Sorry, you two." You made a silly face at them.
Asmo pouted, sinking into his chair.
Belphie seemed to have fallen asleep before the vote even started.
-
And so, you all sat down on the castle's huge couch and surrounding seating.
You pulled Luke along with you, sharing a comfy beanbag chair with him.
The two of you rambled about the movie, then about Moana, then anything else that came to mind.
Asmo let out a huff.
"Why're you so attached to Luke?" he asked, clearly joking.
"Sore loser." You stifled a grin.
"You hurt me." He wiped a fake tear from his eye.
"You make it sound like I kicked your dog." You laughed.
"I'd like to kick your dog," Belphie mumbled.
"I'd like to kick your... butt." You rolled your eyes.
"Who goes 'round kickin' dogs?" Mammon asked, totally confused.
"Belphie, apparently." Levi laughed from behind his game.
"Come sit with your first man." Mammon patted a spot next to him.
You rolled your eyes, playfully, of course.
"Cuddle up to Asmo instead. I'm sure he'd enjoy it."
Mammon shivered at that.
"Movie's starting!" Diavolo called everyone's attention.
And so, you all snuggled up with your blankets, settling in to watch the movie.
You lightly patted Luke's head. He was so absorbed in the movie that he just snuggled up closer to you.
You couldn't help but be proud that you'd convinced the highest-ranking demons to watch Cars the movie.
