Chapter 1: Workplace meetings

Chapter Text

Lucky was bored. This happened quite often, surprisingly. He got stuck in a loop of what to do and never actually did anything. A great way to fix this, of course, was to annoy people! It made him happy and others annoyed, what was there to lose?

Teleporting to Morgan's domain, he prowled around for a bit, trying to find the lady. She seemed to be hiding, or busy. Both options were incredibly rude! He was here, sure that was entertaining enough for her? His wondrous presence made her day most times!

He strolled up to the small cottage the goddess usually resided in. Honestly, he didn't know how they stayed in such a small house. It was so small, he could barely move in there! His dual-tails kept ‘accidentally’ knocking things over, but hey, that wasn't his fault! Should have put them out of reach, honestly.

“MORGANNN!!” He yelled, getting sick of playing hide and seek. “ARE YOU HEREEEE??”

“OH MY US GO AWAY!” They screamed back, appearing out of thin air in front of him. He internally grinned, putting on a sly smile.

“There you are!” He drawled. “My favourite goddess!”

She fixed him with a glare. Her wings twitched slightly.

“Wow, I'm so glad Lucky..”

“You should be! It's not a title I give out willy-nilly.”

“You seem to have given ‘favourite’ to that slime quite quickly.”

Lucky tensed slightly, still fixing the mage goddess with a tight smile.

“What I do to my rogue is none of your business.”

“I believe ‘threatening someones soul’ is.”

He scoffed, circling around her.

“Please, it was barely any! You ruined most of my fun anyways, telling him how to win it back.”

“You still own some of it, dont complain.”

“I will complain!”

“Nuh uh.”

Lucky rolled his eyes. “Yuh uh!”

Morgan narrowed their eyes and peered down at him, noses just barely apart. “Nuh uh.”

“Yuh uh.”

“Nuh uh.”

“Yuh uh!”

“Nu-”

“Will you two pleaseee stop?” A voice complained from behind them. The two of them turned to see Honor standing behind them, looking pissed.

“Oh hiii Honour!” Lucky said, walking up towards them. “Whatcha doing?”

“Getting you two for the meeting,” she sighed. He blinked, and looked back at Morgan, who looked equally confused.

“What meeting?” They both asked. They glared at each other.

“The meeting? Y'know, the one with the Fates?”

“Nope!” He said, popping the ‘p’. Honor sighed.

“Why do they always pick me as a babysitter..?” She wondered aloud. She shifted, armour scraping together. Lucky flattened his ears and winced at the sound, shrinking back.

“Welp, time to go.” She said, teleporting away and somehow dragging Lucky and Morgan along with her.  They met in the usual spot they all met their ‘parents’ - a black void somehow emptier than the one he himself controlled. At least hell had a bit of variety. There seemed to be a table though, so he took a seat.

Hello you four. The Fates said. Lucky narrowed his eyes.

“Four?” He asked, prowling around his chair in a circle and glancing at the other seats on the table. Sure enough, none other than Lady Death herself was sitting there, ominous as ever.

“Ah, hello Lucky.” It spoke. “Fancy seeing you here.”

“Fancy seeing you here indeed,” He drawled, trotting around in a circle before sitting back down onto the chair.

Now that your pleasantries are over, the Fates said, tone a little mocking, We can finally start.

Lucky. Morgan.

They side-eyed each other.

“Yes..?” They both asked.

Would you be so dear to explain why you are so obsessed with that slime?

They glanced at each other again. Lucky flicked his tail a few times, while Morgan's wings twitched ever so slightly.

“What do you mean obsession?” He asked cautiously. “I believe it's a totally normal relationship.”

If wanting to keep them as a pet and trying to see what makes them break in a hell is a ‘normal relationship’ to you Lucky, we fear we might need to have a few more conversations.

“I-“

Don't even start. And you, Morgan.

“..yes?” They squeaked out.

Why do you keep interfering with the slime? He isn’t a mage. Plus, we normally thought rogues were ones to steal from mages, not the other way round.

She straightened slightly, faces defiant.

“Well, it's my business if his soul is taken unfairly.”

Is it really though? What Lucky does with his time has nothing to do with you.

“I didn't even give all of it back! He still owns some of it!”

“Well, I could be owning more if you didn't decide to play devil's advocate.”

“Its not devil's advocate when you're clearly in the wrong-!”

“How am I in the wrong?! You're the one who stole from me!”

“Please, it was barely stealing!”

“Oh, so the definition of stealing isn’t  'taking someone's items without their consent’ now? You little-“

Stop. Fighting.

They both paused from their argument.

“Sorry..” they both muttered. Lucky curled his tail around himself sheepishly while Morgan's wings stilled.

You two, wont stop fighting. The Fates snapped.

“We just did!” He protested.

We’re not just talking about now. Every time you two interact it's an argument. Poor Honor and Corvid have to deal with your bickering.

“Thank you!” Honour groaned.

“I feel like I need to babysit them sometimes, honestly..” Lady Death muttered. The rogue god still didn't fully comprehend that, yes, she was just like himself and had a name. Despite his so-called ‘immaturity’, it felt disrespectful.

“Can we get on with the meeting?” He complained. “Im gonna take a wild guess and say you didnt call this to tell us off.”

Clever as always, Lucky. You're right, we didn't.

“What did you call this meeting for then, if I may ask?” The goddess of death asked.

A solution.

“..to what?” Morgan asked. Despite not having a physical form, he could tell the Fates grinned as a chill ran down his spine.

To you arguing about the silly mortals.

“Oh?” Honour asked. “If it makes them shut up, I’m in.”

We don’t think you’ll be after you hear it.

“What.”

If you two are just oh so obsessed with the mortals, The Fates said, why dont you be one again?

WHAT?” All four of them yelled.

“Why are you dragging me into this?!” Lady Death asked, tone annoyed.

“Yeah, what the hell did we do?” Honor said.

And why is this my fault??” Both Lucky and Morgan responded.

You two, they said, are to make sure the other two don't kill each other and cause this world to collapse. And you know exactly why you’re at fault.

Oh, before you get dropped of, if you tell anyone you are gods, and we mean anyone who isnt part of you four, there will be consequences.

Enjoy.

Lucky's vision blackened, and he felt his body shift into an unfamiliar shape. It wasnt painful yet, more so like wearing a necklace that was a little to tight but not enough to choke you. He screamed curses before he was cut off, water filling his mouth and his body being surrounded by ocean.

FRICK!
