His mother, his father, and his sister. The photo was small, cut to fit the locket, but the faces were clear. Impossibly clear. The colors were still vibrant his mother's red lipstick, his father's blue tie, the pink of his sister's dress. The image looked like it had been taken yesterday, not twelve years ago.
It should have faded by now. Should have yellowed or creased or worn away at the edges. But it hadn't. It looked as new as the day his mother had given him the necklace on his sixth birthday, just weeks before everything changed.
