Robby rubbed his forehead in an attempt to ward off a stress headache, currently being caused by his husband. “Oh, come on Robby!” He pleaded. “Please?”
“I don’t understand why you even want to do this. She’s not going to remember it, she’s three months old.”
“She won’t, but we will. C’mon! It’s her first Halloween, let me dress her up so we can take her out.” Jack begged. Robby sighed, knowing he was going to regret letting Jack do this.
“Fine, but you are in charge of the costume. I’m not going into a party store, I’m not hemming anything, and I’m not putting facepaint on my daughter.” He laid out the rules.
“I’m not asking you to.” Jack sounded utterly delighted, meaning Robby was going to regret this even more than he’d thought he would. But the thought of his little girl all dressed up for strangers to coo over wasn’t a terrible thought and knowing Jack, she would be the prissiest, pink, fru-fru princess that had ever been seen.
Robby was wrong. He was very, very wrong. Robby was working during the day and Jack told him that he and Rivkah were going to pick him up. That way, the Pitt could see her in her costume. They’d take her to a few houses, just to let her have the experience, then they could go home.
Jack came in, baby on his hip, which would have been adorable, had she not been wearing what she was wearing. It was Dana who spotted them first. “Oh. My. God.” She gasped. “How did you get Robby to agree to that?”
Jack grinned, impishly. “I begged to let me get her a Halloween costume and he agreed as long as he didn’t have to have any part of it.”
Dana burst out laughing and took the little girl, who was smiling at her Aunt Dana, having no clue why Dana was laughing. “Oh, you are precious. Yes you are. Jack, take a picture of me with the baby.”
Jack eagerly agreed, but pulled out something first, tucking it into the back of her costume, making Dana laugh even harder. She posed with the baby and Jack took a few pictures, texting them to her immediately. She nuzzled noses with the baby and gave her back to Jack. “You know he’s going to kill you, right?”
“Nah, not if I’m holding the baby.”
It was then that Langdon and Jesse came by, both stopping in their tracks seeing the baby. “Oh my God, Robby is going to kill you.” Langdon laughed.
“He’s only going to think about it, he won’t actually do it.” Jack laughed, pulling out another item, swapping it out with the item he’d put it when Dana had her. “Here, take the baby so I can get a picture.”
Langdon laughed and took the baby, smiling for a picture. Jack swapped it out again and Langdon handed the baby to Jesse. He took another picture, absolutely delighted in his decision.
“Hey, what’s all this commo—” Robby said, stopping dead still. “What. Did you do. To my baby?” Robby asked.
The three month old was in a pair of black scrubs, with a miniature replica of the sweatshirt that Robby always wore. Drawn on to the sweatshirt was a gold Magen David. There was facial hair drawn on to match Robby’s exactly. There was a badge with Rivkah’s picture that said “Dr. Michael Robinavitch, Chief Attending, Emergency Department”. She grinned her drooling grin at him. His eye twitched.
And stuck in her back was a little speech bubble that said, “I Need A Full Set of Vitals, stat.”
“Don’t worry, that’s just the nurse speech bubble. I have others!” Jack grinned, pulling them out. The one she’d had with Dana said “Dana, what’s the floor look like?”
The one she had with Langdon said “Treat em and street em”. There were a few others, including one that said “Gloria, what do you want?”, “Talk me through it”, “I’m sending you to chairs”, and “I don’t give a F*#K about my Satisfaction Scores.”
Other than Robby, everyone nearby was laughing so hard they were nearly crying. Jack very proudly put the Satisfaction Scores speech bubble in her costume, handed her to Robby and snapped a picture. “She looks just like you!”
“Wait! I’ve got one more!” He said, digging around for it. It said “Night Crawlers…HOOAH!” He swapped it out again, took Rivkah, and handed Dana his phone to take a picture.
Robby finally broke, the image of his daughter, completely clueless, but smiling and happy, in an exact replica of his scrubs, complete with the interchangeable speech bubbles, was possibly the funniest thing he’d ever seen. He hated to encourage this with Jack, but it was hysterical. “Alright, give her here. We’ve got an admin to see, don’t we baby girl?” He took the Gloria speech bubble from Jack, and headed towards the elevators. “C’mon Abbot, you made the bubble, you’re going to be there to see the fallout when Gloria sees this.”
Jack gleefully followed his husband.
