    Summary

"Written kisses don't reach their destination, rather they are drunk on the way by the ghosts."

Havers left Button House in June, 1940. West Horsley felt emptier without his leadership and cover drive. England's fields shook in his absence.

Since then, the Captain has tried to reconcile his actions, feelings, all while wrangling his unit... and making something of the mess.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Havers reunited with old friends: Lord Brigadier Sir Jones, PTSD, and survival. Fearing he is plunging into War by undoing the distance between his past and present, he asks if he can endure it alone?

This takes place over the inter- and post-War period, from the Captain's grappling of being a CO, to his second-in-command fighting in North Africa, to what queer life is like after, and explores how he navigates a mid-century world. It is also a fictionalised account of Churchill’s toymakers and researchers of the SOE, following the lives of the Button House Eleven who stayed in Blighty – or left mainland Europe – and their relationships with each other, War, and themselves.
