Downtime

Summary:

Glisten and Boxten have a short (silly) talk

Notes:

This happened sometime during the Hometown Arc in my big Jewelrybox fic

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Boxy, the food’s almost ready,” Glisten entered the bedroom. “You should head downstairs and– err.”

There, resting on his side in bed with Pengu in his arms, was Boxten. A faint rise and dip of his shoulders was the sole sign of movement, making Glisten grimace. Was he asleep? He hadn't even eaten dinner yet. Leaving the door ajar, he walked towards Boxten, stopped beside him, and gave his friend a gentle shake–

“What th–?! Oh…hi.”

“Hello.” You usually don't wake up that fast. “Sorry for disturbing you. Dinner should be ready in a few minutes.”

“What’re you talking about?” Boxten raised a brow. “Well, I got the dinner part. Just– just how long has it been?”

“Um, I don't know– since I went to the kitchen?”

“Gosh, that was an hour ago.” He buried his face into the stuffed toy’s softness. “That means I’ve been here for seven hours.”

Glisten’s lips curled into a frown. “Hey, is something wrong?”

Boxten remained quiet before answering, his voice muffled by the plushie. “No, I merely wanted to be productive.”

“‘Productive’? You’ve already done plenty.” Glisten told him. “You spent the whole morning cleaning the house–”

“With you and Pop.”

“–And helped your mother and father choose what CD to play today.”

“...Heh, I suppose that took a while.” Boxten lowered Pengu. “Still, it felt as if I was slacking.” He sighed. “All I did was watch YouToon.”

“Which you deserve! C’mon,” Glisten leaned in. “You can't be on your feet 24/7.”

“I can't be glued to my bed either.”

“It’s your home, do whatever you want.” He picked up his cat plush and presented it to him. “Look, even Glimmer agrees.”

Boxten snorted. “What?”

“Glimmy has seen me typing on my laptop countless times, and if there is one thing it always says, it’s ‘take a break’!”

Boxten chuckled, pushing himself upright. “Did you listen?”

“Initially? Nope. You see, I had this one song I wanted to finish.” Glisten settled along the edge of the bed. “Soon, I realized how tiring it was to keep at it, so I called it quits.”

“Ah…have you ever completed your song, though?”

“Two weeks later, yes.” Glisten shifted again, lying next to him. “Moral of the story: listen to Glim.” He booped Pengu’s head with the nose of his stuffie.

The music box brightened. “Understood.”

“Get down here, it’s time to eat!”

Glisten blinked. “Oh? Oh, Poppy’s calling us, let’s go.”

The mirror, climbing off the mattress and turning towards where he slept, paused when Boxten pulled back the covers and tucked Pengu underneath them. He regarded Glimmer in his hands, then spun around and nestled the cat near the penguin. “There,” Glisten straightened. “Only for tonight.”

Boxten giggled.

“GUYYYYYYYYSSSSSSSS!”

“Oof, okay, let’s actually go, Box.”

They approached the door; upon reaching it, Glisten grasped the handle, pulled it open, and gestured towards the hall. “After you.”

“Thanks.” Flashing him a smile, Boxten stepped through.

Glisten followed, his expression softening as he glanced at the stuffed toys. I wish I could cuddle him like that…

“Glist?”

“Uh– coming.”

He eased the door shut.

Hopefully Boxy likes the dinner. I made him his favorite.

Notes:

Awwwwwwwww Boxten and Glisten with their Pengu and Glimmer

Glisten made Boxten's favorite (sandwiches) and was in the kitchen for an hour. Hmmmmmmmmmm... The sandwich isn't the whole dinner, he just made it as a side dish for Box. That implies he was trying his best to make the greatest sandwich Box has ever tasted

"I wish I could cuddle him like that..." Glisten thinks despite doing so numerous times in the past. He even sort of did it earlier when he laid next to him

I know what you are, Glist and Box

I hoped you enjoyed this! It was really short but I really wanted to write about Jewelrybox. My loveys...my doveys...
