Love (/p) Sick

Summary:

Ace Trappola gets a potion dumped on him and ends up with a weird mish-mash of potion effects and a regular fever. With his head to mouth filter completely gone, he has no issues telling his friends just how much he loves and appreciates them.

Notes:

Hello hello! This is a gift fic for Karmic for the Reverie Fight event! I had fun writing this one shot, the idea is very much not mine but it is an amazing idea nonetheless. Hope y'all enjoy!

Work Text:

Ace was feeling feverish, sweaty all over and honestly he just wanted to go lie down on the nearest couch and sleep for a thousand years. They had been in alchemy, practicing making one of the more simple potions. It was one that was supposed to temporarily increase your beauty level, clearing out pores and making sure your hair was perfectly done. So, like all simple things, of course it went wrong.

Ace had only noticed in time to push Deuce, Yuu, and Grim out of the way. The group next to them had accidentally bumped into their own cauldron, sending it flying into his group’s cauldron, and subsequently getting both potions splashed on him. He barely registered Crewel helping him up, his face starting to heat up, and soon he was being carried to the infirmary.

Ace’s head felt all loopy, like he was trying to think but he had seven trains in his head all colliding with one another and the conductors were all screaming at him and asking him if the others were okay, Huh. Were the others okay? He hopes so. He loves his friends, he doesn’t want to think about them being hurt.

Little did Ace know, his friends were standing directly over his infirmary bed and heard every single thing Ace said, since he seemed to have lost the entirety of his brain to mouth filter. Deuce felt his face heating up. Logically, he knew Ace cared about them. He more than proved it with his actions time and time again, even just him pushing them out of the way was proof enough. But the other rarely ever said it out loud.

Yuu was a little more composed, but still felt a silly grin break out across their face. Oh, Ace was sick sick, as in sick enough to not care what he was saying. Yuu was so going to record Ace saying anything sappy and use this against him once he was better, but for now, they focused on wiping the sweat from Ace’s forehead as he continued to mutter nonsense. Crewel was brewing up a potion to stave off the effects of the fever, although it might take a while considering the fever itself was potion induced.

“Myah…is Ace gonna be alright? He’s sweating pretty bad…” Grim piped up, hopping up onto Yuu’s shoulder to look at Ace.

“I’m sure he’ll be fine, he just needs some rest. Right, Ace?” Yuu said, turning back to Ace, who just giggled in return. “Hehe…yeaaaaaaaah! I’ll be totally fine! Thanks for worrying about me Grim, I know you pretend not to care like me, but you’re a big softie underneath all that, and I appreciate you,” Ace gave a big smile, to which Grim promptly started sputtering and spitting out excuse after excuse about how he didn’t care, and Ace’s words didn’t make him happy at all!

“Wow, he sure has loose lips like this…” Deuce muttered, his face finally cooling down from the earlier compliment attack. He hoped Ace got better soon, he would be so embarrassed if he heard himself saying all this sappy stuff. Then Crewel walked through the door, potion in hand.

“All right, pups, this should help calm down the fever aspect of the potion. The rest of it is just going to have to work its way through his system, but he should be okay to go back to his dorm and rest.” Crewel swiftly administered the potion, Ace whining about not wanting to take it the whole time.

Yuu and Deuce thanked Crewel, and slowly hauled Ace to his feet. He was wobbling slightly, but seemed okay to walk, so they started making their way back to Heartslabyul. Ace continued to say embarrassing things the whole walk over, and it was starting to get to all three of the non-sick members. They knew Ace liked them, he wouldn’t hang out with them otherwise, but the boy so rarely expressed his feelings! It was super embarrassing!

Thankfully, they made it to the dorm without any incidents, and dropped Ace off in his room. Yuu turned to Deuce, and asked him to grab some water while Yuu went to go get a towel to put on Ace’s forehead again. They broke off, and quickly gathered what supplies they thought they might need to help Ace get better. They had decided on the walk over that Deuce would just keep an eye on him, considering the fact that they shared a dorm. When they got back, it took a moment to register the open window and empty bed.

Crap. They were screwed. And after Ace got better, he was going to kill them for not stopping him from embarrassing himself with all of his upperclassmen.
