Body and Mind

Summary:

Somehow, Kris and the soul manage to find a way to communicate.

It does not go well.

(Set the night after Chapter 4)

Notes:

I have returned!! Unfortunately (or fortunately), I got really into Pokémon Rejuvenation, so that has taken up a lot of my time.

(Really good btw, would def recommend)

No images this time. Placing images in ao3 was harder than I thought >~<

Work Text:

You watch Kris typing at the computer from your cage.

They left the gate slightly ajar this time, but from the look they gave you, it was clear they wanted you to stay put.

Good thing you never were good at that, huh?

Once Kris was thoroughly engrossed in what they were doing.

You make your escape.

Taking it slow, you push the door open a bit more, then float up and over the wagon.

You float over to Kris' bed.

Kris looks over at the cage, sees you gone, and gets up.

There aren’t many places to hide, but you try your best to avoid Kris’ gaze by hiding behind their pillow.

Kris walks over to their bed, rips off the sheets, and checks under the bed.

Until finally, they find you as they lift their pillows.

Looks like it’s back into the cage for you. They’ve closed it this time too.

Greeeeaaat.

Take two.

You press yourself against the cage.

Eventually, you somehow nudge the gate open.

You stop right in the middle of the room as Kris pulls out a sheet of computer paper and begins to write.

It’s not a conspicuous thing, so you’re not sure why it causes you to pause; they’re free to do whatever they want after all.

And then you get an idea.

What if this is how you can talk to them?

Kris spots you as you just sit there. They don’t even hesitate to scramble over and lunge at you, ready to throw you back into the cage.

Maybe lock it this time too.

You have to know. You just have to.

You go straight into their chest.

You drag them over to the desk. It’s slow, and you’re fought the whole way.

You hunch over the desk, grabbing a blank page before your hand moves erratically as the pencil flies across the page.

msoryisorry-”

You get ejected from their body. They grip you tight; the look they give you is nothing short of unbridled anger.

But then they look at the page; what was a blank page is now covered by what you made them write.

Their head cocks to the side.

They look at you.

Then at the page.

Back to you.

Kris seemed to realize what you wanted to test.

They stare at you for a long time. You hope somehow they can feel your remorse.

Kris chucks you into the cage.

Welp.

They plop back down into the desk chair and restart what they were writing.

Eventually, when their skin is pallid and the sky is turning dark, they drag themselves over to your cage.

They reach in and grab you. Shoving you inside right before Toriel calls them down for dinner.

Don’t want to make her worry, after all.

Once they’ve eaten and walked back upstairs, they march over to the desk, sit in the chair, and then take out a piece of paper and a pencil.

They just sit there, waiting.

You have an idea of what they want you to do, so you move their left hand and begin to write.

I had to know. I’m so, so, so sorry. Please forgive me. I just wanted to talk to you.

But it worked! It actually worked! I’m so happy!”

You don’t know how long I’ve wanted to talk to you.”

Your excitement is palpable from the script.

Kris, however, just stares at the page, eyes locked onto your continued writing.

I wish we could’ve figured this out earlier! Hitting me with a hockey stick was effective, but it was really mean.”

Their opposite hand taps against the table; Kris initially thought it was you doing that, but… you’re only controlling the hand holding the pencil.

They pick up another pencil.

You felt that?”

“Well, no. Not really, but it still hurt! I’m on your side, you know?

Though, I guess I deserved it for making you play the games Ramb had in the TV world. Sorry about those, by the way.”

I just wanted you all to be as powerful as you could be, for the fights ahead."

I might not know everything, but I do want to stop the prophecy as much as you guys.

Kris’s right hand stills, only for a moment.

You actually want to stop it?

Well yeah? I could’ve, like, abandoned all of this to do something crazy in the cyber world.

But, from what I've seen, it’s… rough. I didn’t want to put you and Noelle through that.”

What?

You don’t need to know about that. I’m sorry. I don’t even know why I brought it up. Just know, it’s really bad.

The hand you’re not controlling twitches a bit.

What do you mean Noelle could’ve been in danger?”

She’s not in danger! Kris. Really, I’m sorry for bringing it up. I shouldn’t have done that”

You shouldn’t have done a lot of things.

They’re right, but you’re not completely to blame. You’re both pawns in a game too big for either of you.

They grip the pencil tightly, about to snap it in two before they just... drop it. Their head falls to the table.

Being without you for as long as they were seems to have worn them out more than normal.

You can’t tell what their face is like, but you know by now they’d fight you if they had the energy.

Part of you is glad that they can’t.

Kris. You’re tired; cmon, let's continue this another time.”

They shake their head.

Kris, I can tell you’re about to pass out. Even with me giving you energy, you’re pushing yourself too hard.

“We can do this later. You need to sleep.”

You try to will their body to move and get up, but they stay rigid in the seat.

You want to scream; how can they be so stubborn?

They wouldn’t have gotten this far by not being stubborn, but there has to be a limit!

I want to talk now.

What do you know?

The hand you control shakes.

I don’t know.”

What?”

“I don’t know what else I can tell you after what I already have, Kris. I’m sorry.

Fine.”

With that, Kris puts down the pencil.

They take a long, deep breath.

Before wrenching you out of their body and forcing themselves to stand.

They pick up the piece of paper you both wrote on.

And puts it in the shredder.

With you in hand, they make their way over to the cage, place you inside, and lock the gate.

You then watch them shamble over to the window and jump out.
