Work Text:
Ludwig turned over in bed, his back facing the man that lay next to him. It had been a long day of boring meetings, endless paperwork, etcetera, etcetera. He'd expected to come home to a quiet bed and a happy Alfred, To which only one of those were true. Beside him, Alfred lay wide awake, holding his phone above his face, his brightness and sound all the way up -- or at least that's how it felt to Ludwig. While he admired how energetic he was, being on his phone so much was disruptive, and frankly, unhealthy. But since when was Alfred the picture of health?
Alfred let out a quiet chuckle at something on his phone, immediately scrolling onto a new video. That made Ludwig squeeze his eyes tight. God, he was so tired he'd surely fall asleep even with all the noise coming from the other man's side. But in some ironically cruel way, whatever crap was playing on his husband's phone kept him up. He attempted to listen, only a little bit, just to at least hear if it was something worth watching. Unsurprisingly, it really was all just a bunch of useless garbage. It was only loud, not funny, just loud. It sounded like it was meant for children, and it was really starting to get on Ludwig's nerves. This had to have been going on for around 30 minutes. He usually prided himself on being a bit more patient, but just how much grace could he give Alfred? It was time to say something.
Flopping onto his other side to face Alfred, Ludwig cracked open his eyes just a bit. "Sonderling, please turn that down. I'm trying to sleep." He rasped, sounding much more pathetic than irritated, folding his arms as he tried to make himself comfortable.
"Sorry, Lud." Alfred didn't even look at him when he spoke, although he did turn down the volume a little bit. That Ludwig could be grateful for.
"Thank you..." He shut his eyes again, facing half into the pillow to block out some of the blinding light that came from Alfred's phone. It was a surprise he could even see with how bright it was, or maybe Ludwig was more tired than he realised.
The room was relatively peaceful now, the tension easing from Ludwig's muscles as he slowly drifted to sleep. Or he would've, only if Alfred hadn't begun to turn the volume of his phone back up. If he didn't love Alfred so much, he would have killed him right now. But as much as he loved him, he couldn't help giving him a piece of his mind.
"Alfred, please turn that crap down, I'm so tired!" His voice cracked when he spoke, propping himself up with one of his elbows. By this rate, he was going insane after being forced to stay awake for so long.
"Wait, dude, look at this." Alfred chuckled, shining the phone at Ludwig's face, making him squint and crinkle up his face. "That's like Russia, dude!" he laughed. Ludwig used his hand to shield himself from being blinded. He couldn't even make out what the other man was showing him.
"What even is that? pass me my reading glasses." He croaked, irritation beginning to seep into his tone.
"It's Tung Tung Tung Sahur! Like, the wood guy."
"What?"
"What, haven't you heard like, Feliciano or Lovino talkin' about this stuff?" Alfred must have been blissfully unaware of how late it was, or how pissed Ludwig looked.
"No! I don't care, just let me go to bed." He tossed himself on his other side, clutching the covers close to himself as he tried to tune out whatever crap was playing on Alfred's phone. He figured tuning him out was working pretty well, since eventually, all that background noise eventually died down to nothing. In fact, he was pretty sure he'd managed to ignore the light coming from his husband's phone too, or so he thought. Soon enough, Alfred had wrapped his arms around Ludwig, burying his nose into the crook of his neck as he held him close.
"Sorry, Lud." Alfred whispered to him, softly snoring not too long after. Soon enough Ludwig fell asleep too, brainrotless.
