Work Text:
Remus had made it clear the day the two of you were married that he wouldn’t let anything get between you. You were touched by the sentiment, of course, but it was certainly hard to believe when you were lying on the concrete steps of the school you fell in love in, while your husband fought hard against the death eaters swarming the castle.
“Come on. We need to get you healed.”Madame Pomfrey said as she knelt beside you. “I just need you to cooperate.”
You groaned as you sat up at the ache in your back and shoulders from being thrown against the steps. “I’m more worried about Remus.”
“He’ll be fine, dear. Let’s get you patched up.”
You allowed the older woman to repair the bruises you could feel forming on your back as your husband ran over to you, grunting at his knees that still hurt after all these years as he moved to sit beside you. You looked up at him, checking for any damage.
“I’m fine, love. You fell hard, are you alright?”he asked.
You hadn’t even noticed until he was sitting next to you that the chaos surrounding you had stilled. “I’m fine. Just a little bruising, I’ve had worse.”
He nodded, turning his head to kiss your temple. “Do you want to go home?”
“Are we even able to?”
“Yeah. Yeah, everything’s over. I’d help with cleanup if you were in better shape.”
“There’s so many others, Remus. You should help them if you can.”
“Not to pick favorites, but I’d rather take you home.”
You smiled a little at his words, letting him get up and taking his hand when he offered it, glad he was still strong enough to help you stand.
