In the late 2000s, Greg Keyes wrote a duology of books in the Elder Scrolls setting. They felt incomplete, but a young superfan enjoyed them in the wait for Skyrim and had the imagination to see that the core of the story was cooler than the fandom gave it credit for.
In the present, a middle-aged superfan with a mostly-broken laptop wants to practice getting back into writing.
This is not a claim that I think I'm a better writer than Greg Keyes, or even that he did anything wrong, and more as a separate work in conversation with his, taking the potential I see in it as a TES superfan, dedicating time I believe he was not given, implementing lore that was not created or not known at the time he was writing and acknowledging that the task of recreationally rewriting or re-fleshing the skeleton of his story is way easier than coming up with the thing from whole cloth while under financial pressure to do it as your job.
